It's only illegal to BBQ on the beach when there's a burn ban. It's usually ok. Also, South Padre is only better if you're 18-24 and are looking for a party. 4X4's are only necessary if you go past the 2wheel drive portion of the beach (he did not). I always go 10-20 miles down the beach where you NEED 4X4's and we are completely secluded. It's great for fishing and camping. South padre is for parties (and good ones ;)
