  • HHH isn't an acronym. It's an initialism.

  • "...saying things wrongLY". Ugh.

  • expresso...urgh

  • I knew that. Ahem.

  • @MartySmartyPants You mean your childhood was as wasted as mine was? ;)

  • @keyboardescapism I wish it was. Being taught grammar and English usage at school has proved to be one of the worst things to have learnt these days. What with "ize" being added to almost every word, turning nouns into verbs(medal & medalled) and politicians saying "going forward" instead of "in the future", I'm shouting at the fools every time it happens. I've turned into my Dad.

  • "Ignoramus is a noun though. Just thought I'd mention it"

He's talking about the Latin derivation. Were "ignoramus" a noun in Latin (ie. "one who does not know") then the plural would indeed be ignorami. Since it's a verb ("ignoro" meaning "I am ignorant", therefore "ignoramus" meaning "we are ignorant") then the plural of the English noun "ignoramus" wouldn't follow that of the Latin noun, whereas other nouns derived straight from the Latin do (eg. fungus > fungi).

  • @keyboardescapism In the 1st line of your explanation, you say 'were' when you actually mean 'where'. I just out Nazi'd the king Grammar Nazi. HAIL!

  • @corbey08 No.. they meant 'were'

  • I agree with you Marty....it is my pet hate!
