I can't thank you enough for this post God bless; I only wish My father was here to hear it ; My Father loved Mario lanza , and many others. But he would have given this probably the best rating of them all. Thanks again.
I agree. I think the weight loss has been too drastic, and it really shows in her voice. A loss of richness, and, as you say, commitment. I am sure one reason she hastened to lose the weight was to fight back at the mean-spiritedness of the infamous 'black dress' insult. However, haste has not rewarded her (or us, alas.)
I have seen many interpretations of this aria, "Teco io sto" from Luciano and one with different sopranos. This scene is for me the best. When I see it, then I forget that a concert is, I am put in the opera! Deborah Voigt, is a fantastic soprano. They interpret this aria and Luciano representational and vocally, so wonderful, I can not see enough, and did not hear enough! Thank you, thank you! Ciao:)))

No doubt Voight is a great singer but she can't sing with Pavarotti, he speaks the Italian so clear then you can see that a International level soprano can't pronounce latin language even with the greatest training.
Thats a bit unfair- having an accent, American or otherwise, is not a defect, after all- it adds a certain colour to her Italian, as Pav's heavily accented French did in with his Tonio.
If the 'wrong' accent spoilt a performance you would have to write off every American singer before they even made their début. I certainly don't think her accent detracts from her performance.
Much as I enjoyed this and always enjoy M. Voight, there is an even better version, with Pavarotti and Katia Ricciarelli, from 79? 80? at the met, which is really something spectacular and which I tried to up load for fellow Verdi lovers but failed abysmally. Agree the slightly later ['83? '84?]April Millo/Pav production may be even better still. Isn't it great to have them all to choose from?
They are both wonderful. I hate to think Ms. Voigt might have damaged her voice by losing weight. Would the idiot stage directors today tell Tettrazini and Pagliughe to find work elsewhere. I am fat and people who do not like to look at fat people on the street or on stage should put their F*******ing eyes out.
Her voice is GIGANTIC! Listen to how easily she drowns him out. Pav sounds very good here as well. I'm really learning to love him. The concluding high note from her was spine-tingling. This was very good.
Pavarotti non lo commento, perchè è stato un grande e ha fatto tantissimo per la musica, Deborah Voight la trovo molto molto brava con una bellissima tecnicae una pasta di voce magnifica
Excellent Pavarotti. His voice is perfect. I still prefer the Scala vesrion with Aprile Millo, who has a slighter inflexion. But Deborah Voight is doing her best...
I heard her right after the announcement of her surgery at the MET doing this and I felt she held back a little. That was a couple of years ago. How is she now?
He did this Price at the 83' Met Centennial Gala (his version with Voight is much better) and did something quite similar. He strains on the high C, not as much as in this version, but he still does so. Right when he is about to give out, he ends up burying his face in Leontyne's hair. That large mane that sopranos love to wear can actually come in handy, especially when you're singing with Pav lol.

a bit "sloppy" and "affected" from the great Luciano....i feel he was in a lazy mood. Voigt spot on.

I like her better this way. I saw them perform this at the Met and they both gave great impassioned performances of the opera!

I find it a rather apt typo "Deborah Voice" instead of "Deborah Voight ." Rather like a dyslexic Iditarod musher who spells "dog" like "god."

Thanks for the correction. This video has been up for 2 years and you're the first to catch it. Good eye!!

Well... Loismustdie26... Im assuming you are also 'a dyslexic Iditarod musher' as its 'Voigt' no 'H'... :-)
I realise this sounds quite bitchy, it certainly isn't meant that way... forgive me

Wonderful interpretation ! Pavarotti was in his late 50s, which is remarkable.
He had very sharp high C's.

Pavarotti sings very well but apparently blows the high C, which cannot be heard, and then hides behind the soprano's head.

At the end Luciano seems to hide behind Deborah, it looks strange; problems with the high note? Perhaps he didn't take it well
