The books really influenced me back in the 70's to be more like the guys in the books, but the movie was nothing like what I thought the book was about.

Everyone was a famous star/pretty boy in the movie. The guys in the book were supposed to be unnoticed tough kids and fighters, not Rob Lowe or Ralph Machio?!?

I thought a guy wrote the book until I was older. Then I figured out why the author went on about things like Ponyboy's hair. :-)

I admit,a lot of the characters are hot. BUT, if you pat attention to the plot you would see just how emotionally genious this is. The book was a master piece. Written from what S.E. Hinton saw when she was growing up, just as the point of veiw of PonyBoy. I admit, I think Dall is hot. BUT, pay closer attention you'll realise how much he really loved Johnycake. <3

This is not rare at all. It's the complete novel edition movie. You can buy it at target. People who think this is the best movie ever are way too close-minded. Has anyone seen rumble fish or that was then, this is now? This is, to be honest, a pretty crappy movie after you've seen it 25 thousand times. And its so innacurate. There weren't separate "gangs" called the greasers and the socs. Greasers were just kids who worked on cars, hence the word "grease", and wore their hair with grease in it

That's why they met up with other greasers who were gang members before the rumble.  I don't think this is the best movie ever but your statement was actually the inaccurate one.

I watched this movie a few years ago back in middle school and I cant believe I'm just now finding out there were more scenes and footage.

This is such a tender, heart warming scene. I know this is just a movie but GUYS, there is nothing wrong with showing that you FEEL. That you have FEELINGS and showing a little weakness, a tear, bromancing is NOT considered being a pussy or being gay. The one thing I disliked about the movie was that it didn't develop the relationship between the brothers.... in the book you see how much Ponyboy admires Soda and it just doesnt come across in the movie! we dont see how Pony thought that Darry hated him, which (if it had come across in the movie like it did in the book) would have made the family reunion at the hospital even more moving! I was just a little disappointed!

THIS ending would have been much better because it would convey all this!

After reading Rob Lowe's book Stories I Only Tell My Friends (which was fantastic, by the way), I decided I seriously had to see this film. He described the closeness of the cast members and how they became great friends during the filming of the movie and the chemistry really shows. He also mentioned that when he saw the movie for the first time, he was infuriated that they didn't put this scene in the movie. As am I. It was a great portrayal of his acting skill and it just completes the movie.
