Correction! A 3000 year old book that has been reinterpreted so many times that a lot of shit has been lost in translation. A 3000 year old book in which the first five books were written through hearsay at least 500 years after the events supposedly described. A 3000 ear old book whose canon was decided by a group of orthodox believers 1700 years ago only after a sectarian battle within post-Rome Europe between said orthodox and Gnostic Christians! Evidence my ass!!!

Dear Christian:You don't understand science and it's easier for you to believe in a book written over three thousand years ago with multiple proven contradictions and mistakes when refering to the natural world. A serpent is at the center of many creation myths (eg:Australia aboriginals, nordic mythology, etc) yet you chose the one that they taught you first as a child and are so intelectually lazy that can not even figure it out by comparing bronze age to 2010. Human nature is shockingly amazing.
The reason why there are still so many religious people in the world even after all of the things that have happened in the past century can only be chalked up to one thing: Behavioral conditioning and fear of punishment. Most religious people grow up religious out of fear of their parents or peers. That and the denominations that are growing the fastest also happen to be the ones taking advantage of potential converts that are the most vulnerable(foster children, victims, etc)
it's hard to think of what to say to this one. and that's probably because YOU seem to not have been able to think of what to say in this one. Someone please explain to me how it's possible for a human mind to be so broken that it think "I have more evidence" is an actual point that can support a side in an argument.
I think these videos are actually trying to get more people to come to atheism and their senses. To me that can be the only explaination for such absurdity.
@apex588 sorry to nit pick but its illogical. everything is like this not just us. it cant dispove anything let alone prove anything. i cant find the post you are replying to but im guessing he is a dick head and a wrong one at that.
there is no evidence that proves Christianity...Just a book written by some people hoped up on LSD wanting to make a quick buck on exploiting the poor. Science may not have all the evidence, but it does have facts.
There is NO evidence for Christianity being a true divinely inspired religion of the one true God. If you think that there is then you don't understand what the word evidence means.
@showmedshow I did, very amusing stories about mass murder, violent intolerance and unbeliveable magic tricks. The biggest evidence that christian bible should be called a fairy tale instead of a holy book is the bible itself with all its contradictions. You shalt not kill ... unless the other guy believes in something else that the "one true god" or is just otherwise inconvenient to you or people you know and so on and so on.
"Way more evidence that supports Christianity"? To date, not one scientific paper that supports christianity has made it past the peer-review process, whereas over 200,000 papers that support evolution have been published. What evidence are you talking about?
@Peramorphosis, Just because you dont see or you dismiss the evidence does not mean its not there, Nature is the biggest piece of evidence, the air we breathe, the complexity of our bodies. heck science itself proves God exist, look @ how the Sun and Earth are placed, its a reason they are as far apart as they are; because if either one moved an inch closer to the other we would all burn. such strategic placement of the planets could not have happened by chance
"And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky.'"
Even if God is referring to rain, this is still incorrect, as rain comes from the lower parts of the atmosphere. Coupled with verses about windows in heaven, its clear to me that God is separating bodies of water--not water vapour.
About water: You do not understand my objection. I understand very well that there is gaseous h2o in the atmosphere. But genesis specifically claims that they sky separates the oceans from the waters in the sky. The atmosphere *contains* gaseous h2o--and most of it is confined to the lower part of the atmosphere. There is no appreciable water (gaseous or otherwise) above the atmosphere.
He stretches the heavens like a canopy--My interpretation is that the heavens are something tangible and solid, and that God has used them to create an enclosed environment (like a tent) for us to live in. Again, where have I gone wrong?
you have gone wrong in your interpretation. someone could say that a person's love for his dog stretches for miles. based on your interpretation of that statement, love is tangible and solid. if you look up, the sky stretches out broadly in front of you. the stars are a canopy over your head. is that wrong? it's descriptive writing.
No, saying that the love stretches for miles would be a purely literal translation. If they Bible said that the sky stretches out, or that the stars are like a canopy over my head, then it would be sensible.
There are no problems with the metaphors you made, but allow me to further examine one of them to address the problem: "Tom's love for his dog stretched for miles." This is clearly a metaphor, but there must be a literal component for the sentence to make sense.
If there is no literal component, then the sentence is none sense. There must be a Tom, and a dog.
If God stretches out the heavens like a canopy, then there must be something to which this literally refers. And it must be something enclosing (like a canopy). It is ok to say the sky stretches out in front of us, but to be (in any way) like a canopy, it must be some sort of definitive enclosure.
to a person in the middle of kansas, the sky would seem like an enclosure. it would be stretched out above, encompassing the plain. like the Tom and the dog, the is God and the sky. Tom loves the dog and God stretches the sky. God can certainly do this as the creator of everything, including the sky.
Whether or not the sky seems to be an enclosure is irrelevant. Whether or not the sky *is* an enclosure is relevant.
But perhaps I'm being a stickler. If you believe that the Bible was *inspired* by God, such that its writings about morality (and life and death) are infallible, but that some aspects of it (such as scientific and historical aspects) are fallible, then I have no issue with it.
By the way, I've been reading through the climate change "hoax" emails...so far there isn't anything incriminating. I'll let you know if I find anything odd.
I just finished reading the emails this morning. I didn't find anything that was incriminating, but I did find a few things that seemed a bit suspicious. The most significant suspicious thing that I saw was a reference to boycotting a climate journal because of one of the papers it published.
Apparently the writer of the email thought that the paper was really bad science. I'm reading through it now to see why.
Perhaps you noticed something that I may have missed? Or have other insights?
what about the part in the email admitting to data manipulation? or how the scientists said that even though they don't have data to support global warming, that doesn't make it any less true?
Ummmm....I don't remember anything like that. I have the emails exported to a word document, so if you could find any specific quotes, I'll be able to find/read them more quickly (and therefore I'll be more readily able to respond).
@ExcessRejects We can see the effects of Global Warming around us... haven't seen anything that suggests an invisible wizard controls our every action. Or the events of the world.
Isaiah 40:22--"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. "
He sits above the circle of the Earth--My interpretation is that the Earth is a circle...please explain how my interpretation is incorrect.
The people are not grasshoppers--God is sitting so high above them that they look like grasshoppers.
Science states nothing about religion, it only seeks to improve knowledge and build upon already established and well known hypothesis that have since become scientific theories.
A scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been put under much scientific strain through peer review and prolonged study.
No "creation science" has ever been peer reviewed or put through prolonged study as they are all quickly debunked by common knowledge of physics or biology.
how'd the scientific process work out for global warming? science is too influenced by politics now. agendas make up for the lack of facts in both the aforementioned theory and the theory of evolution.
Science is a constantly self adjusting practice. The bible, or many other religious doctrine, have remain largely unchanged for the better part of 2000 years, well before science was ever looked into. If science focused on every single mistake it ever made then we wouldn't have many of the modern convinces that we have today. So throwing in the towel simply because one thing doesn't work/was proven false would mean we wouldn't even have lightbulbs.
science and christianity aren't mutually exclusive. politics can have a negative impact on many things. science isn't excluded from that. in fact, politics has had a negative influence on christianity over the years too (i.e. the crusades).
You seem to be throwing politics around quite a bit. I wasn't exactly talking about the politics was I? I was mentioning how Science is self correcting but religions aren't. That had nothing to do with politics.
And if you want negative influences look no further than the Christian god. He's (arbitrary gender) willing to kill off the world's people (Noah's Flood) simply because they aren't following his wishes. Last time someone did that they called it genocide.
you're acting like you can either be on the side of science or on the side of religion. that's not true. i brought up politics because you're talking about science in a perfect state. science isn't self-adjusting. this global warming scam has wasted and continues to waste tons of time and money that could used for way more useful scientific pursuits.
You need to make up your mind. You're saying that science and the bible can co-exist. Fair enough, they can given that science says nothing on religion what so ever. But then in a whole other video you attack Evolution which just about every single biologist (noted as being bias) and saying its wrong. Politics play very little role outside of moral dilemma such as stem cell research. The reason for this is that most sciences are self funded by their own discoveries and grants.
you don't seem to know what politics is. it isn't synonymous with government. also, just because science and religion aren't mutually exclusive doesn't mean that they line up perfectly. a christian doesn't have to accept every aspect of scientific theory as truth. i believe in the theory of gravity but not in much of the theory of evolution.
That's just it, the theory of Evolution has more evidence than gravity itself does. There is more debate over the Theory of Gravity than there is the Theory of Evolution in the scientific community because there are mounds more evidence towards Evolution than Gravity.
1. How exactly do you think politics would affect science in such a way that you can possibly assert that global warming and evolution are hoaxes?
2. How do you reconcile the Bible with scientific facts that obviously contradict the Bible? Do you side with the Bible (and believe, for example, that the Earth is held up by pillars)?
(BTW, scientists don't accept scientific theory as "truth" either...they accept it as the best explanation of a particular phenomena at the time).
i never said they were hoaxes. that makes it seem as though the scientific community is trying to pull one over on people. global warming and evolution are generally accepted as truth even though the evidence supporting the theories is flimsy. though, the public is seeing the fallacy in global warming and turning away from it. politics affects the outcome of controversial scientific studies, such as global warming. what scientific facts contradict the bible?
1. The evidence for evolution is not flimsy. Do you even know what the evidence for evolution is? The homology of structures and genes testifies to the credibility of evolution. The fossil record testifies for evolution. Hell, evolution has been observed. Evolution is *very* well supported.
2. I'm not as well read on the subject of Global warming, but why do you think it isn't true?
3. One example of Bible science: the bible describes the Earth as a circular dome--not a sphere.
1. homology as support for evolution is pure speculation. so, two things are similar and must be related? the fossil record is very incomplete. the theory of evolution is based on assumptions (aka faith) that certain things are true.
2. the statistics don't support global warming. the global warming fad is a money making machine. so, of course people are going to manipulate the data to get the results they want. didn't you read about the emails that came out about it?
Okay, lets, for an instant, say that Evolution is false. What's your evidence for Creationism? And don't give me that false dichotomy that because one is false the other must be true as that's not evidence of anything other than ignorance.
1. It is the nested hierarchy of similarities that serves as evidence for common descent. One of the basic principles of heredity is that the offspring share characteristics with the parents (both phenotypically and genetically).
We know that parents do not product offspring that are radically biologically different. This principle is combined with the fossil record to produce evolutionary descent trees.
a. We do not have fossils of all the species that have ever lived
b. We do not have perfect singular skeletons of many species
The fossil record does, however, have a vast array of "transitional species." More importantly, the record shows a complete lack of animals that are inappropriately arranged IE there are no mammals in the Precambrian rock, there are no apes in the Jurassic rock etc. This is solid evidence that the animal world has changed over time.
1. the fossils that are found are bone fragments that can be arranged and supplemented however the scientists desire. a piece of the animal's hand and jaw are found and magically the scientist is able to reconstruct the entire skeleton! coincidentally it happens to match the transitional fossils they were searching for. there aren't very many complete fossils that have been found, which is understandable since certain conditions are necessary for preservation.
1. You have a gross misunderstanding of paleontology. Please consult a paleontologist before contending that they haphazardly throw bones together in order to make skeletons. And when have scientists *ever* taken a jaw and a hand bone and constructed an entire skeleton out of them?
A complete skeleton for a human would have 206 bones. However, many (if not most) of these bones can be missing and we would still be able to determine that the skeleton was human.
For example: a skilled paleontologist (or forensic scientist) would easily be able to determine the identity (whether it was from a human or another animal) of a dead body by its skull, spinal column, fingerbones, etc. This is because the human skeleton (and all other animal skeletons) is so distinctive that one can easily determine whether or not an uncovered jawbone (or any bone) belonged to a member of the human (or any other) species.
i replied to this yesterday but the comment didn't post for some reason. i'll type it again.
have you ever seen that arti fossil that was recently uncovered? i tried to post a link to the picture. youtube won't let me for some reason.
anyway, the skeleton is made up of more than a few bones. but, look at the liberties that were taken in the artist's rendering. the drawing is made to fit a gap in the fossil record. like i said, they construct and manipulate it however they want.
Arti? Um...type the full name of the specimen please. Otherwise I can't find the fossil that you're referring too. Even so, artist renditions are hardly scientific. Paleontologists have a good understanding of what changes occurred along the homo sapien evolutionary tract. So if they find a fossil that has intermediate features, it can aptly be called a transitional fossil. No drawing is necessary to prove that it would be a transitional fossil.
2. Fair enough, I'm not particularly well informed on the issue, so I will take your word for it.
3. *cite* : Isaiah 40:22 describes earth as a circle with a canopy over it. Genesis 1:6-8 describes "water" above the atmosphere. Psalms 78:23 describes the sky as having doors (thats how it rains, God opens the doors). Isaiah 34:4 also describes the sky as something that can be rolled up ("like a scroll").
3. whoops, i definitely concede the cite vs. site. i typed that early in the morning before i had coffee. your scriptural references are laughable. haven't you ever heard of imagery? metaphors? your first, third and fourth citations are all poetic language. for the second one, are you saying there is not moisture in the sky? what about rain or humidity?
3. Did you even read the verses? I urge you to do so before responding.
Isaiah 40:22--If this verse is metaphorical, then it is a metaphor with two similes inside of it--thats quite convoluted. Please explain exactly what the metaphor means.
Genesis 1:6-8: Read the verse please. Genesis isn't talking about water vapour, it's talking about two bodies of water that are separated by the sky. Coupled with the "floodgates" from Psalms 78:23, the meaning is clear.
Isaiah 34:4---If this verse is a metaphor, then it is a metaphor consisting of three similes. Isaiah 34 is describing what will happen on judgement day. It is clear that Isaiah is describing a literal collapse of the sky and the stars (which will apparently fall from the sky like leaves from a tree).
Again, read the verses before calling my references "laughable." If you did read the actual verses, then I apologize for being impetuous, and please indulge me by explaining them.
given my response, i clearly read the verses. maybe you should consult an english teacher before talking about metaphors and similes. metaphors aren't made up of similes. they are two different methods of describing something. the verses in isaiah and psalms are descriptions of God's power and judgment. if someone says you're sleeping like a baby, are you going to call him a liar because you aren't a baby. the verses in genesis are talking about water in the heavens, which is rain.
First things first: I know very well what a metaphor is. What I'm saying is that the verses most likely are not metaphors, as each individual verse contains similes. Lets examine the verses one at a time, shall we?
Isaiah 34:4--"All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree."
The sky rolled up *like* a scroll--obviously this doesn't mean that the sky *is* a scroll, but it does mean that the sky can be rolled up in some way. This implies a solid sky. The stars falling like withered leaves and shriveled figs--obviously that does not mean that the stars are figs or leaves, but it does mean that they will fall as figs and leaves do.
If what you are saying is true, then Isaiah 34:4 is a metaphor (this one happens to have a couple of similes inside it), an analogy, or an allegory. Either way, it is a symbolic statement. I'm asking you to explain what each component is symbolic of. It is not sufficient to say that the verse is a description of God's judgement--I am asking you *how* it is a description of his judgement.
again you don't understand what a metaphor is, still thinking that it's something composed of similes. you can consult a basic english book to sort that one out. isaiah 34:4 is not a commentary on how the universe is composed or what the universe is capable of. it's about what God has the capability of doing if He chooses. the passage is about complete judgment coming to the people, not just on the earth but everywhere. He is all-powerful and can do each of those things listed in the passage.
I've asked you to explain *how* you determine what the meaning of the verse is, not what you think the meaning of the verse is. You think Isaiah 34:3 is about God's power. Great. How do you get that? And if you believe that God can do each of the things listed in the passage, then does that mean that he can literally do them? Because if God can literally do those things, then the sky must be solid...otherwise it couldn't possibly be rolled up in any way."
Metaphors: Ok, explain what *you* think a metaphor is. Either you have a *very* skewed interpretation of what a metaphor is, you are misunderstand (or not reading) what I am writing, or you don't understand what a simile is.
At its most basic form, a metaphor is when *something* is used to represent something else. Metaphors may be extended (IE metaphors do *NOT* need to be a single sentence). Ive Isaiah 34:4 is a metaphor, then it happens to be a metaphor that has similes within it.
Metaphors *can* have similes within (just like metaphors *can* have imagery, allusions, quotes etc) within them; however, metaphors do not necessarily (or even usually) composed of similes. Metaphors are most often single sentence comparisons of two seemingly unlike things (EG "Johnny was a brick wall"). As such, the average metaphor has no room for similes. But in an extended metaphor (such as the Allegory of the Cave) there is plenty of room for such things.
ya be a Christain they all agree on everything....and it all comes from the same book, thats saves time.Being Christain means you don't have to think about stuff anymore.I'm going to convert too..Ithink i'll be morman...no wait baptist,no...catholic....or maybe 7th day,or,one of those born again dudes.

Man, the ex-atheist is so much cooler now that he's a Christian. He's no longer a poorly dressed, othersized glasses, snot nose talking geek. I going to became a Christian because it's cool!!
That's the real reason to become a Christian, who cares if it acually makes sense.
"Missing link" is only a term used by media and ID/creationists. The correct term is transitional fossils, of which we have many. The only problem is that the conditions required to produce fossils are very rare and it is entirely possible that many distinct species came about and disappeared without leaving a trace. Yes, there are many holes in the fossil record, but that is only because when you fill one hole with a transitional fossil there are always smaller holes made on either side.
I went to an ACCREDITED Catholic college that was open to science, philosophy and theology. After watching this series of parodies, I have lost all hope for Victory Bible Camp.
In the future, fanatics will still be trying to convert people while they play with their Xbox and Blackberries. I feel sorry for those who can't reconcile faith and science.
Not saying its antichristian, dude. Those things were made by science. Everything you enjoy was made by scientific minds, from your computer to your cell phone to your game console. Scientist engineered and designed them, and Christians use it and enjoy. But when science infringes on beliefs, many Christians are quick to disregard scientific reasoning. If you aren't willing to learn about evolution, cosmology, and physics, you are doing your religion a grave injustice.
i enjoy technology all the time. i'm not anti-science. i'm all for science. i just don't like people trying to pass unproven scientific theories as fact simply because they refuse to admit God exists. science and religion aren't on opposite ends of the spectrum. most of the time, they coexist perfectly.
I'm glad you're somewhat reasonable but these videos are horrible examples of faith. Fact: evolution exist and there is proof. Fact: there is no evidence of God, that's why people have faith. By definition, faith requires no proof. If science can prove God, then so be it. Otherwise, the Christian mythology is just that: stories and tradition.
I saw this and also had an epiphany: Everything is too god-damn complicated, we don't actually know anything much for certain and there is more material published in any one of thousands of specialized areas than we have time to read, so I may as well just read one book and join the flock by sticking my head in the sand instead.

Coupled with verses about windows in heaven, its clear to me that God is separating bodies of water--not water vapour.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
it's referring to water vapor and moisture in the sky. water isn't confined to ground. it's above us as well.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
About water: You do not understand my objection. I understand very well that there is gaseous h2o in the atmosphere. But genesis specifically claims that they sky separates the oceans from the waters in the sky. The atmosphere *contains* gaseous h2o--and most of it is confined to the lower part of the atmosphere. There is no appreciable water (gaseous or otherwise) above the atmosphere.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
He stretches the heavens like a canopy--My interpretation is that the heavens are something tangible and solid, and that God has used them to create an enclosed environment (like a tent) for us to live in. Again, where have I gone wrong?
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
you have gone wrong in your interpretation. someone could say that a person's love for his dog stretches for miles. based on your interpretation of that statement, love is tangible and solid. if you look up, the sky stretches out broadly in front of you. the stars are a canopy over your head. is that wrong? it's descriptive writing.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
No, saying that the love stretches for miles would be a purely literal translation. If they Bible said that the sky stretches out, or that the stars are like a canopy over my head, then it would be sensible.
There are no problems with the metaphors you made, but allow me to further examine one of them to address the problem: "Tom's love for his dog stretched for miles." This is clearly a metaphor, but there must be a literal component for the sentence to make sense.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
If there is no literal component, then the sentence is none sense. There must be a Tom, and a dog.
If God stretches out the heavens like a canopy, then there must be something to which this literally refers. And it must be something enclosing (like a canopy). It is ok to say the sky stretches out in front of us, but to be (in any way) like a canopy, it must be some sort of definitive enclosure.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
to a person in the middle of kansas, the sky would seem like an enclosure. it would be stretched out above, encompassing the plain. like the Tom and the dog, the is God and the sky. Tom loves the dog and God stretches the sky. God can certainly do this as the creator of everything, including the sky.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
Whether or not the sky seems to be an enclosure is irrelevant. Whether or not the sky *is* an enclosure is relevant.
But perhaps I'm being a stickler. If you believe that the Bible was *inspired* by God, such that its writings about morality (and life and death) are infallible, but that some aspects of it (such as scientific and historical aspects) are fallible, then I have no issue with it.

cldstrcrft 2 years ago
Ugh... Here I go again:
Science states nothing about religion, it only seeks to improve knowledge and build upon already established and well known hypothesis that have since become scientific theories.
A scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been put under much scientific strain through peer review and prolonged study.
No "creation science" has ever been peer reviewed or put through prolonged study as they are all quickly debunked by common knowledge of physics or biology.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
how'd the scientific process work out for global warming? science is too influenced by politics now. agendas make up for the lack of facts in both the aforementioned theory and the theory of evolution.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
Science is a constantly self adjusting practice. The bible, or many other religious doctrine, have remain largely unchanged for the better part of 2000 years, well before science was ever looked into. If science focused on every single mistake it ever made then we wouldn't have many of the modern convinces that we have today. So throwing in the towel simply because one thing doesn't work/was proven false would mean we wouldn't even have lightbulbs.
Most religions are binary views of the world.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
science and christianity aren't mutually exclusive. politics can have a negative impact on many things. science isn't excluded from that. in fact, politics has had a negative influence on christianity over the years too (i.e. the crusades).
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
You seem to be throwing politics around quite a bit. I wasn't exactly talking about the politics was I? I was mentioning how Science is self correcting but religions aren't. That had nothing to do with politics.
And if you want negative influences look no further than the Christian god. He's (arbitrary gender) willing to kill off the world's people (Noah's Flood) simply because they aren't following his wishes. Last time someone did that they called it genocide.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
you're acting like you can either be on the side of science or on the side of religion. that's not true. i brought up politics because you're talking about science in a perfect state. science isn't self-adjusting. this global warming scam has wasted and continues to waste tons of time and money that could used for way more useful scientific pursuits.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
You need to make up your mind. You're saying that science and the bible can co-exist. Fair enough, they can given that science says nothing on religion what so ever. But then in a whole other video you attack Evolution which just about every single biologist (noted as being bias) and saying its wrong. Politics play very little role outside of moral dilemma such as stem cell research. The reason for this is that most sciences are self funded by their own discoveries and grants.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
I highly doubt that research centers around the entire globe are effected identically by the exact same political climate.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
you don't seem to know what politics is. it isn't synonymous with government. also, just because science and religion aren't mutually exclusive doesn't mean that they line up perfectly. a christian doesn't have to accept every aspect of scientific theory as truth. i believe in the theory of gravity but not in much of the theory of evolution.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
That's just it, the theory of Evolution has more evidence than gravity itself does. There is more debate over the Theory of Gravity than there is the Theory of Evolution in the scientific community because there are mounds more evidence towards Evolution than Gravity.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
Tell me:
(BTW, scientists don't accept scientific theory as "truth" either...they accept it as the best explanation of a particular phenomena at the time).
cldstrcrft 2 years ago 12
i never said they were hoaxes. that makes it seem as though the scientific community is trying to pull one over on people. global warming and evolution are generally accepted as truth even though the evidence supporting the theories is flimsy. though, the public is seeing the fallacy in global warming and turning away from it. politics affects the outcome of controversial scientific studies, such as global warming. what scientific facts contradict the bible?
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
3. One example of Bible science: the bible describes the Earth as a circular dome--not a sphere.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
1. homology as support for evolution is pure speculation. so, two things are similar and must be related? the fossil record is very incomplete. the theory of evolution is based on assumptions (aka faith) that certain things are true.
2. the statistics don't support global warming. the global warming fad is a money making machine. so, of course people are going to manipulate the data to get the results they want. didn't you read about the emails that came out about it?
3. site the reference.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
Okay, lets, for an instant, say that Evolution is false. What's your evidence for Creationism? And don't give me that false dichotomy that because one is false the other must be true as that's not evidence of anything other than ignorance.
MysteriousAya 2 years ago
The fossil record is incomplete in two ways:
(continued)
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
(continued)
(continued)
cldstrcrft 2 years ago 2
1. the fossils that are found are bone fragments that can be arranged and supplemented however the scientists desire. a piece of the animal's hand and jaw are found and magically the scientist is able to reconstruct the entire skeleton! coincidentally it happens to match the transitional fossils they were searching for. there aren't very many complete fossils that have been found, which is understandable since certain conditions are necessary for preservation.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
(continued)
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
(continued)
For example: a skilled paleontologist (or forensic scientist) would easily be able to determine the identity (whether it was from a human or another animal) of a dead body by its skull, spinal column, fingerbones, etc. This is because the human skeleton (and all other animal skeletons) is so distinctive that one can easily determine whether or not an uncovered jawbone (or any bone) belonged to a member of the human (or any other) species.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
i replied to this yesterday but the comment didn't post for some reason. i'll type it again.
have you ever seen that arti fossil that was recently uncovered? i tried to post a link to the picture. youtube won't let me for some reason.
anyway, the skeleton is made up of more than a few bones. but, look at the liberties that were taken in the artist's rendering. the drawing is made to fit a gap in the fossil record. like i said, they construct and manipulate it however they want.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
No drawing is necessary to prove that it would be a transitional fossil.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
Isaiah 34:4 also describes the sky as something that can be rolled up ("like a scroll").
cldstrcrft 2 years ago 2
3. whoops, i definitely concede the cite vs. site. i typed that early in the morning before i had coffee. your scriptural references are laughable. haven't you ever heard of imagery? metaphors? your first, third and fourth citations are all poetic language. for the second one, are you saying there is not moisture in the sky? what about rain or humidity?
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
(continued)
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
(continued)
Isaiah 34:4---If this verse is a metaphor, then it is a metaphor consisting of three similes. Isaiah 34 is describing what will happen on judgement day. It is clear that Isaiah is describing a literal collapse of the sky and the stars (which will apparently fall from the sky like leaves from a tree).
Again, read the verses before calling my references "laughable." If you did read the actual verses, then I apologize for being impetuous, and please indulge me by explaining them.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
given my response, i clearly read the verses. maybe you should consult an english teacher before talking about metaphors and similes. metaphors aren't made up of similes. they are two different methods of describing something. the verses in isaiah and psalms are descriptions of God's power and judgment. if someone says you're sleeping like a baby, are you going to call him a liar because you aren't a baby. the verses in genesis are talking about water in the heavens, which is rain.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
First things first: I know very well what a metaphor is. What I'm saying is that the verses most likely are not metaphors, as each individual verse contains similes. Lets examine the verses one at a time, shall we?
Isaiah 34:4--"All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree."
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
The sky rolled up *like* a scroll--obviously this doesn't mean that the sky *is* a scroll, but it does mean that the sky can be rolled up in some way. This implies a solid sky. The stars falling like withered leaves and shriveled figs--obviously that does not mean that the stars are figs or leaves, but it does mean that they will fall as figs and leaves do.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
If what you are saying is true, then Isaiah 34:4 is a metaphor (this one happens to have a couple of similes inside it), an analogy, or an allegory. Either way, it is a symbolic statement. I'm asking you to explain what each component is symbolic of. It is not sufficient to say that the verse is a description of God's judgement--I am asking you *how* it is a description of his judgement.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
again you don't understand what a metaphor is, still thinking that it's something composed of similes. you can consult a basic english book to sort that one out. isaiah 34:4 is not a commentary on how the universe is composed or what the universe is capable of. it's about what God has the capability of doing if He chooses. the passage is about complete judgment coming to the people, not just on the earth but everywhere. He is all-powerful and can do each of those things listed in the passage.
ExcessRejects 2 years ago
*sigh*
I've asked you to explain *how* you determine what the meaning of the verse is, not what you think the meaning of the verse is. You think Isaiah 34:3 is about God's power. Great. How do you get that? And if you believe that God can do each of the things listed in the passage, then does that mean that he can literally do them? Because if God can literally do those things, then the sky must be solid...otherwise it couldn't possibly be rolled up in any way."
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
Metaphors: Ok, explain what *you* think a metaphor is. Either you have a *very* skewed interpretation of what a metaphor is, you are misunderstand (or not reading) what I am writing, or you don't understand what a simile is.
At its most basic form, a metaphor is when *something* is used to represent something else. Metaphors may be extended (IE metaphors do *NOT* need to be a single sentence). Ive Isaiah 34:4 is a metaphor, then it happens to be a metaphor that has similes within it.
cldstrcrft 2 years ago
Metaphors *can* have similes within (just like metaphors *can* have imagery, allusions, quotes etc) within them; however, metaphors do not necessarily (or even usually) composed of similes. Metaphors are most often single sentence comparisons of two seemingly unlike things (EG "Johnny was a brick wall"). As such, the average metaphor has no room for similes. But in an extended metaphor (such as the Allegory of the Cave) there is plenty of room for such things.
