My name is Darrell Vanterpool, and I'm using my sister's account to post this comment. I am in-fact in this commercial. I play the black kid with the hampster cage. The way the director filmed this is by giving the dog peanut butter and dropping down feathers above the dog giving the image that the dog ate the bird. It is entirely fake. There were trainers on set and they were worried about everyones safety. Notice that the snake and hampster are furthest away from one another. For a Reason.....

It's slapstick humor folks, not meant to be real. Are you ready to file assault charges every time Mo slaps Larry and Curly too? I'm sure no animals were harmed in the filming of that commercial. Matter of fact, every animal in that commercial is likely living better than your average homeless person, who could really use your donations or assistance. This is a stupid commercial, yes it's fake, but the idea that it's funny is repulsive and ignorant. Birds are just as important to people as dogs, they are sweet loving companions who become part of their families. Would it be funny if it were a little dog that was eaten by a large dog and the owner of the large dog reacted like it was no big deal, just a stupid little dog?

Yeah, that's what's funny, is that the guy is playing an idiot... and reacts with a simple, "sorry" A totally insensitive response... that's the joke. He acts like the dog ate her donut, any normal human, would flip out if their dog did that. Hence the joke. You're aware that none of this real, right? I think the people that made this commercial assumed that people be on board for unrealistic nature and get a giggle, while simultaneously pump their company.

I can't find the humor in pets being killed. People love their pets, they become a member of the family. The commercial is unrealistic, but the fact that this is supposed to be funny makes me sad. The D-bags reaction is even more saddening.
