My fathers business was located at 211 S. State Street in AA when I was a kid, and I recall this Lennon/Sinclair rally. I wanted to go so bad, but was only 12 years old, so of course, was not allowed to attend.
@joebuckjajaja no for selling 2 joints to an under cover cop.. which he was sent to jail for 10 years for 2 joints.. after the song came out like a year or something later he was set free.
@ratonmickey83 john sinclair was a man who was arrested for giving 2 joints to undercover police (1969), he was sentenced to 10 years (hence the 10 for 2 line in the song) with pressure from john lennon as well as the majority of the public john sinclair was freed to be with his family again in much less than 10 years... (3 days after john lennon preformed at the rally for sinclair in 1971)
"got to, got to, got to . . . " - - i don't hear that technique on many recordings. was lennon inspired by the monkees "magnolia simms"? or mae questel's "broken record"?
I love Lennon (and the Beatles) and the Stones, as well as many other 60s (typical british invasion) bands. I don't see the point comparing the two then, when they produced massively different music, and were as good as each other.
If you feel one is better than the other, that is your opinion, so instead of comparing them here, use this space to compliment the song you are posting on.
@samusic160 So anybody that's never passed your frame of reference must not be worth the effort of passing your frame of reference. Very American attitude.
@LukeGNR94 Oh, the Stones walked all over the Beatles? Have you even heard both versions of I Wanna Be Your Man? The Stones version is absolute crap compared to the Beatles...and they had RINGO singing it!!!!
First heard this song in the film 'The US vs. John Lennon' and have been listening to it ever since! Especially love the guitar riff at the beginning. Go John!! :D
Hey guys you should check out the band Blind Melon's cover of this song. Really a terrific band that payed attention to detail. I know there will be haters but some of you may like it. This is so bluesy for john lennon. He was always trying new things! Pushin that envelope.
I wood have loved to have been in new york at this videio BUT I"M HAPPY WITH BEING AT ANN ARBOR ON STAGE WITH MY FREIND JOHN YOKO WITH MY BROOM I MADE A BASS OUT OF STANDING NEXT TO YOKO RON J> KING
@killaspongebob666 listen this song what he sing about cia... he was man who had big INFLUENCE ON THE MASS, he was antiglobalist, anticapitalist and against (american) exploatation wars, man who wrote on big billboard "War is over, if you want it" do you think your government like that? no my friend... also albert oldmans books is writed to preset lennon in negative light with reason, lennons ideas of peace are opposit of ideas of your hypocritical government...
Sinclair started smoking dope in 1962, that was several years before John did. Notice the government is now committing all the crimes all over the world. Chasing musicians around the world for smoking refer is so Seventies.
julian assange, set him free! make love, not fear! aka The Powers That Be Psycho Fascist Narcissist Nazi Zionist Corporate Capitalist Control Bitch World Bank Rapists, aka The System
John Sinclair was the chairman of the White Panther Party, not many people realize this today and think White people were against the Black Panther Party when in actuality both White and Black Panthers worked together to serve their own communities. FBI set up Siclair as they did Chairman Bobby Seale of the Panther Party and both spent 2 1/2 years in prison.
@JoyceLynne1 I AGREE ONE THOUSAND PERCENT! UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER JOHN LENNON....SO LET'S BE THANKFUL FOR THE ONE GOD HAD GIVEN US!
Was this changed? Wasn't the original "what else can Judge Colombo do?"

John Sinclair was indeed set free, thanks in part to John & Yoko's efforts, if memory serves.

John Sinclair was the manager of the greatest rock band EVER. The MC5. Look them up. Even a douchebag like John Lennon had to bow before them.

It seems crazy to me that albums like Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey were better received than this album.
Maybe I just am not a huge fan of corny John, but this is waaaaay better than those two.
