Im from Peru and leme tell you those darn pigs are crazy, they will chase you down, if you climb a tree and you are in theyr territory they will chew the tree down until they get you, you better trow your shirt or something behind you, to distract the scent , and release theyr fury on it.
awesome documentary quite possibly the greatest ever made called amazonia untamed (discovery channel 1990's and repeats upto c. 6 year ago). I remember watching this. The most beautiful characteristic in the animal world, unbridled, blind courage. This pecarry won the battle on the day but sadly died the next day from the injuries it received and was shown in a later part of this documentary. Very powerful and moving scene and is made all the better by some great narrating. I think bill nighy.
@HandA711 Yep Jaguars are different from other carnivores...they dont help each others in fights...i seen a fight between a young jaguar cub vs jackal...and the mother was just watching, it could of ended in death for the young jaguar but luckily he had an advantage...his size.
For such a small animal this pig packs a terrible punch, Its way more dangerous than wild boars, the teeth is different, unlike wild board where the teeth sticks out and is used for slashing, their teeth are like long canines designed to bite and kill with puntures, like a cat, the pig is also very narrow body and very tall, making it much more manuverable and fast, u used to sele all this pig hunts with dogs where the pig run, I havent seen the same hunt videos with this pig on it. Thats why!
everybody keeps saying the pig won but it didnt. to win would be to kill the jaguar not survive and then bleed to death later. the pig survived but it definately did not win. the jaguar probably decided it would be smartest to find something else to eat instead of risking serious injury just for a quick meal. the pig was fighting for for a whole lot more than the jag. these are just facts
@JAKETHEGREAT11100 Its depends on point of view, in this fight the pig won as far as the fact the jag turned tail and quit, I agree the jag figure out it was easyer prey around. The pig died later in that case the jag won. Kind of like winning a battle or the war, pig won the battle, jag won the war. Not trying to put jags down, they're awesome, just hate people talking shit about the pig cose it's ugly. It still a courageous animal.
Hahaha, for all the Jaguar boys, what happened here? I though you guys sayd a jag can kill a tiranossaurus rex? Wake up! jags are top predators but there are plenty of matches for them out there, this is an example, a single mother protecting her babies. And for the most part Pecaris run in packs, when they do they will kill/eat anything including jags. The giant pecary is not even mention here, it would make the jaguar run for their life.
@JAKETHEGREAT11100 Sorry, you are wrong, when foraging for food they will eat anything they find, be it a coconut or a jaguar, most the time the jag is too cunning for the pigs to get, jags usually lag behein the pack and pick the young and unwary. sometimes they get caught, surrounded and eaten alive, sometimes they get caught by a big male boar and get hurt pretty bad if they cant get away, I lived there, seen this pigs kill anaconda, crock, jag, horses, cattle and people. They are dreadfull
@changrider well first off i dont believe the pig can kill a crocodile unless it was an infant. crocs hunt lions so dont give me that crap. second, going by ur example of them picking out the straggler and sometimes being surrounded and eatin. u proved my point. they dont hunt and kill jags like somone said. they only defend themselfs and their fellow pigs as i said. so the pig is not a predator to the jag the jag is still the predator to the pig, my point.
@JAKETHEGREAT11100 I never sayd they actively hunt those animals, they are oportunists and pick stragglers, we had a pack that we used as basicly guard dogs in out farm house, and they killed/ate quite a few constrictors and a couple of small crocks that came down the stream behein our place, they also eat all the tarantulas/scorpions around the house. I dont mean a full grown crock you should know that! My point is just that this animlas are very dangerous and can and will kill jags sometimes.
@changrider agreed. a full grown male siberian tiger is 800 lbs and will murder any of the big cats hands down. same for the peccari, just no compitition. they run over 50mph. they are true death machines. they have been known to kill full grown brown bears. they attack people with little hesitation
@changrider yea man type in "in the shadow of the siberian tiger" its an wasome documentary and they have the entire thing posted. you should check it out bro
@walkdeep Pecarys are awesome animals, I lived in the amazon for years, for years Ive been talking about the Giant White Lipped one, no one believed me! they are rare but every once in a while someon would shoot one, now just saw a article of 'new specie of giant pecary discovered' on line, They ones I saw were about 100k or 200lb, a trully dangerous animal, also with pigs the older the get the bigger and more agressive, they dont seen to age. The noise of their teeth clanking is scary as hell!
Sir David Attenborough should be narrating this. Also, I'm not a fan of when narrators personify the animals and give them a name. Just call them, "jaguar," and "peccary." It sort of detracts from the science and learning experience, and makes it seem overdramatized.
@kknmkk10 fail. jaguars are the strongest, even if they're not quite as big. Most jaguars match the size of a leopard though and would win in a fight the majority of the time. A jaguars only true weakness is when it's opponents work as a team like a pack of wolves or a pride of lions.
I am trying to avoid it but I can't stop but seeing this as an emotional fight. I don't want to take sides because this is nature and I truely believe one must not mess with Mother Nature.
By the way, I like the narrator. This is the way I like documentaries to be explained and not in a "funny" entertained way. Just explain it as it is.
Its not that the jaguars could not beat the peccary, its that they considered it too risky. They are hunters not scavengers so they need to stay in tip top condition.
Crocs are very dumb, they have a brain the seize of a peanut and they tire quickly, so the more clever cats can find a way to kill them, a peccary is a different story.
Also the jaguars can't risk serious injuries, to them this is just a meal not an "all out battle to the death", for the peccary, it is. Now add to that the toughness and determination only a mother saving her children can have, and you'll understand why the jaguars backed off.
Yes indeed, all the Untamed series Africa , Amazonia, Australia and not so sure but America I guess, were superbly made. The ones I enjoyed the most were Amazonia and Australia. I do find some explanations in those documentaries poetic.
Unfortunately the ¨funny¨ way has prevailed and nature clowns roam everywhere.
bloody hell that was intense!!! i was so scared for the peccary and her babies

Badass lil Wakima.
Paccary's are the pigs who's teeth sharpen everytime they close right?
Javelina's are like that here in Texas, they roam in big packs too, though im sure thats not the correct term.
