Actually, Chinny, most people in Eastern Canada are descendant of French and British Colonists and Settlers from Ireland and Scotland, most of which landed in our cities (Halifax, St..John's, Quebec & Montreal).

Yes, many loyalists had landed in Boston but prior to American Independence, so very little of our population are descendants of Americans. Especially now that we've got lots of immigrants from outside the US.

BTW, the prospect of becoming secondhand citizens on our own land is what would keep Ontario and the Atlantic provinces out of the US.

We've got our own laws and political processes, some of which are incompatible with that of the USA. And we're already part of the commonwealth so what would be the point ? Full independence would be the next logical step and we don't need to be part of the US to have trade - Protectionist regimes are counter productive for everyone.
