1 thing Banks doesn't say is how much nitrous they use to keep the smoke down.. pretty much the truck is running on very little diesel and a shit ton or nitrous!
@Deepinher01 Nitrous is not a fuel. Spray any amount you like into any engine and it won't run on nitrous alone. All the power an engine can possibly make is contained in the fuel. Nitrous does not add any power to the fuel period. It's simply changes the burn rate (speeds it up) while allowing you to add more fuel and make even more power. You're still limited on the power output by the amount of fuel present. By the way, we use about 3 lbs of N2O per run I wouldn't really call that a "ton".
this makes me love diesel all the more! what is so amazing is that one could drop this engine just the way it is in a properly equiped full-sized truck and drive around town with it. Not only that, but if one were so enclined one could run WVO or ATF in her and have a great performing truck that would cost zero in fuel. there are just no challengers diesel is the best.
@ExUSSailor, Take all the nasty dirty diesel drag trucks in the world, multiply their lifetime emissions x 100,000 and you still have less than 1/1000th of a seconds worth of particulate matter or greenhouse gas emission from your average erupting volcano. I'm about as green as they get but your slam on diesel drag trucks is wasted- there's not enough of them in the world to make a difference. Besides, the new diesel technology is cleaner than ever and more efficient than gasoline engines.
As Speedy2222 said, black smoke is wasted power, or, more precisely, wasted, unburned fuel. If you think that's cool, you need to spend more time listening to Mr. Banks, because you're obviously a moron.
@thumpetto007 : All you young fellers and yer newfangled ideas. Ya ain't got no respect fer tradition. Black smoke sez, "Hah! I got so much power, I don't even need all this, I kin just toss it out mah stack!" Now, if'n you'll excuse me, I got to chase some kids off mah lawn. ;)
@Speedy2222 I am well aware of the chemistry and physics involved, here, thank you. In truth ANY emissions of ANY kind are wasted energy. Even a single intact atom is wasted energy. A single subatomic particle that remains in motion is wasted energy. That was never my point. In fact, I was never trying to make a point, I was merely making a facetious comment. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sit on my porch and shake my fist and rant at random passersby.
@Speedy2222 What? I wasted a good rant? Well....hrumph...(metaphorical tail twitching like a disgruntled cat, leans shotgun back against the wall, opens cooler of ice-cold beer and 'Dew, offers Speedy his choice. Speedy and Butlerproman both spend remainder of afternoon yelling and shaking fists at random passersby.)

$60K per engine huh? Compared to a Nascar "Cup" engine with a single 4 bbl carb, no turbos,no mega buck injection system and no electronic engine management at $85K, that Banks engine would be an incredable bargain.
Nascar motors can definitely run high than 85k and I'll bet that diesel motor doesn't get rebuilt half a often as a stock car motor. O yeah nad it makes more power.

I assume this is on old Pro Stock Truck re-powered with a diesel engine.
What brand of engine does it have?
Great ET and MPH for any class of truck!

What are YOU talking about? I made no statement regarding Banks' intellect.

I'm impressed by the performance, of course, but a diesel without the plume of black smoke? It's just not right.
butlerproman 2 years ago
Actually, it is right. All the yahoos with black smoke billowing out of the tail pipe haven't spent the money/time on a perfect tune.

What are the specs on the engine? Its nice to see one with incredible power and run such a low time with out the black smoke. Great job Banks!!!

Dr. Performance is nearly a second slower in the quarter than this truck.
