I have a few family members who work for the IRS, and they don't completely understand our tax system. Our tax system is rather complicated, so I don't think Geithner understands our tax system or could understand it in its entirety.
I do agree that his previous overdue taxes show a certain degree of negligence, but I don't think that that negligence equates to being unable to do his job. His tax issues were a private matter after all, not a professional one.
I believe Giether had paid the majority of his overdue taxes before Obama announced his nomination, so its not the same thing. Plus, the amounts are a bit different.
Geithers fees were around 50k, and Daschle's were over 100k, and still not settled.
It boggles my mind that a man like Giethner didn't understand our tax system yet he is now the one in control of our tax system, doesn't that sound messed up to you?
