@jayhilgers I don't know whr u lived but, "the car clubs ...through out the 50s.. and some of the popular car clubs in L A during that time were the “Low Riders” the “Coasters” the “Highwaymen” and the “Road Devils.” Other clubs .. the “Businessmen("57-"65),” the “Gladiators,” the “Slausons ('52-'65),” “Rebel Rousers,” the “Huns,” “Farmers” from Watts, and “Blood Alley” just to name a few. By "80 there were 30k gangs members in L A County.

I like some of their other stuff better, but this gets a "thumbs up" frm me. The music from 'the day' seemed to be more fun, vibrant, optimistic, and even slyly sexy(Marvin, Barry, Teddy etc). My perception of todays music seems mean, angry and in your face and calling women "b.....es". Hell, when the 'Nam War was going on, there was reason to be mad and angry buy somehow the music still reached out then and afterwards with hope and optimism. Funk slapped us into a nu gruv. Keep the posts up.
Great music...Great time to grow up...Back in the days before this RAP S@#T came out and people started shootin eachother.....The only gangs back then was the Hells Angels....You didn't mess with them they didn't mess with you...RESPECT....
@jayhilgers cant spell CRAP with out RAP my friend i love classic hip hop like this ur right new rap and these thugs are just fucking ridiculous shit back in the day bikers where some mean shit how these guys what the "bloods"? or something like that thos are the gangs that would shoot the shit out of you would kill you just for 12 bucks to your name...the respect in gangs and clubs groups what ever is dead i hear bikers today are still useing respect to run there gang but idk shits fucked up...
We had this at my sisters reception. took "the train" into one of the other receptions and gathered up more people! So awesome-yeah I am white too and in my 30's
Music has changed so much since this time frame, it was so good to be able to have fun and play in music. Now things are so empty in urban music, its heartbreaking..
Is it just me,or were most people less concerned with racial divides back then, and more concerned with a good time!! Ima white boy,and I love this stuff!!
Loved this vid then, love it even more now! 2:35 The Hare Krishna dude freaked it! 2:00 Remember Ozone from Breakin'? It's was all about havin' fun...
This song was one of those danceable beats that you could not pass up on the dance floor even if you HAD to dance by yourself. I did it many times and not ashamed of it one bit! :)
I feel really lucky to have experienced that era in history..it was a great time to be alive and an even better time to be a teenager...corny video? Maybe that's true, but I'll take 'corny' over 'crude' any day of the week. The world today is sad and very dark. That's why I take the YouTube time machine back to the 80's every chance I get!
I saw them in concert in the early 80s and they were as good in person as on record you didn't need to ask if it was live or memorex, It was the best!
Looks like they had a lot of fun in this video! Feel s great listening to and watching this. Dammit I love ya'll everyone who posts here I love you too...yeeee haw!!
Damn I remember this from Night Tracks. It had a very crossover appeal but was still funky I am so glad I was born in the early 70's. Imagine all that good music from the 70's and 80's taking flight. I agree with cowbowithstyle, there was less stress and racism. We all could get down. Blacks, Whites, Latinos, whoever man.My friends andI listened to Def Leppard and Van Halen as much as we listened to Shalimar or Midnight Starr. And yeah I'm Black, so what. Music is for everyone. God Bless
@Reece8562 I'm a white Irish guy and I think you kick ass my black friend!!! You are right on....I listened to Van Halen and Lep also....but I also love Kool and the Gang, Gap Band, Earth Wind and Fire.... I remember as a kid watching the "Midnight Special" and "Soul Train" and seeing great acts of all kinds....alot of people might not realize Elton John played on Soul Train and some great funk groups played the Midnight Special...they were teaching us how to live back then...peace to you!
@mikemcpeak714 You know what I actually saw that show when he was Elton John was on Soul Train. I remember thinking,"who is this funky brother with the glasses". I didn't know who he was but Benny and the Jets kept popping up in my head. The same thing happened when I first heard this song that I would hear all the time. This guy played the sax right, and it was so sweet and calming. Then I found out the name of the song was"Feels so good" by Chuck Mangione. I was like "cool"! Just enjoy!
Svara på det här videoklippet... We need more positive and less negative. And we all need to work together, cuz what happens, when we, like Martin Luther King said " are forced to have to grapple"? Don't want to preach. Just a little fed up. I think that's why most of us look back at old videos and remember how it felt to feel good. And not be so strectched to the limit all the time. Will we as a nation ever get back into the feel good nexus? I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else
@Reece8562 Ahhhh, the old Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speech again. Have you heard of the saying, opposites attract? Everything on this earth was created for the sole purpose of evolution. All form of life, eventually dies. It's what mother nature intended. As it is with evil, there is goodness. As with wars, there's peace. As human beings, we have no control over these things, because we are part of this process. For without this process of elimination, the world will be complacent with robots.
Music knows no racial, religious, ethnic or sexual boundaries. When this song and this band came out, it wasn't unusual to see everybody in our neighborhood get together for a big block party. It was like having a UN party in the country!
lol! i was 2 when this song came out and never heard it until 2007.i didnt know the name of the band or the name of the song,i did know that it was one of the dopest songs i had ever heard and i never heard it again until today.music stinks now and my fucking generation took it there.motherfuckers.
Absolutely AMAZING. I remember paryting to this and all the other great hits back then. I can't describe how hearing this make me feel GOOD...what is out today that can compare to this???? Answer: NOTHING. Im SO GLAD I was a teenager back then and not now. This era SUCKS compared to then.
dont matter what color you are to enjoy Gap Band. I am Caucasian and knew this song from its release, matter of fact I crashed my first Car listening to a Gap Band Cassette. yes it was" burn rubber on me "I thought I was cool spinning donuts in front of some other kids.. still own there music to this day. and yes those were the days....... 2011 SUCKS!
@Stvnfrench5 I agree...the kids today have no clue of how awesome OUR music was back in the day! These guys and the Isley Brothers were GREAT! Used to dance my butt off to this stuff....this GREAT stuff! :)
I was in my early 20's when this came out, back then it was all having fun and good times, The Gap Band, Rick James, Kool and the Gang, the Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, the SOS band. It was all about fun, not the crap that is put now about "bitches, cop killing, drugs and gangs. Too bad the world changed that way. All of the bands mentioned above smoke anyone out there today.
I was about 8 or 9 years old when this came out and i loved this song. Back then about 5 of us would go to to the skating rink on a saturday afternoon and jam skate to this. There weren't any fights, so our parents could drop us off and pick us with no problems.I still love seeing the guys in the video grooving down the street to this song.
@JohnQuincyAdams1 Robert Wilson was not the lead singer. He was he one in the blue outfit. The lead singer is none other than his brother Charlie Wilson and he is still alive and kicking today. He has a hit song out now called "You Are" and just performed it live on The View last week
YOU KNOW YOU A BAD MOTHER FU**KER WHEN YOU CAN WALK BUT ADD A LITTLE GROOVE TO YOUR STEP AND LOOK COOL THEN A MOTHER FU**KER. DONT MISS THE PARTY TRAIN. LOL................... THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL TWO STEPPING.
Ohhh I love this era of music. Being a product of the 80's, I still got a taste of some good tunes.Plus I too grew up on music before my time. Though there are a few good hits out there now, you just don't here songs like this anymore. GAP BAND 4 LIFE!
I played the Mini-Moog parts on this song at A&M studios with the great Gap Band, and to this day, I have never played a more funkier bass moog line in my career...and yes I am the "white boy.....fat jew from Malibu..on the record...the song was huge, and the band was second to none...today, no one can duplicate this sound....just sayin'.....Larry Handelman....
how could 18 people listen to this and dislike it? and not feel like getting up to dance?! The Gap Band is awesome! back in the day I could dance all nite to this and all the others like it!
this goes out to my prima alma, when we would bust out the albums and turn it up and start our braking moves, we also came out wit new routines...lol good times..
I was 24 when this song was popular....don't mean to rub it in but I feel lucky to have been young enough to enjoy this. Better late than never sweetie ;-)
Good to see Susan Sontag getting her ticket at 0:53. This video is directed by the British director Don Letts. He says the Gap guys were so out of it all they could do was walk twenty yards along the beach front.
@Tompettylady601 Yes. That's him. The one on Charlie's left and the one that's in the ring with the boxing contenders. The other guy is both of their cousin, I believe. I know that they are all family.
Amen.......I'm white, and back then there was less racist bullshit than there is now.....me and my friends, black and white, would get together, go party, or just cruise lay back listen to some music, talk to women relax and enjoy life. Sad what the world has come to.....back then we didn't even think about carrying a gun, or even a knife.......if somebody did start something with you, you handled best you could with your hands, won some lost some, nobody got killed...thanks for the post.

@cowboywithstyle Racism is the same today as it was back then, its just better hidden today. Back then it was common for white people to use the N word all the time.

@cwash2005 - What happened to the lead singer, Robert Wilson? The video title says, "R.I.P."? This man *dripped class and style*!

@JohnQuincyAdams1 Robert Wilson was not the lead singer. He was he one in the blue outfit. The lead singer is none other than his brother Charlie Wilson and he is still alive and kicking today. He has a hit song out now called "You Are" and just performed it live on The View last week

@JohnQuincyAdams1 He passed away late last year/early this year

Party Train reminds of the Panama Canal Railroad Company when the lady conductiors come out and serenade the passengers with their songs.

You're too young to remember.
By the way, I'm white too.
