Nobody ever talks about Freddie Mercury's craftsmanship. He sure was the best singer and all, but GOD, there is SO MUCH to his musical genius that you could write a bible on his compositions.

His vocal arrangements here (mostly recorded by himself only) are way way way beyond what any other rock band could ever imagine. Pure musical genius.

The whole band was so unique & so special. They were the only band whose members all had #1 hits; they're the most educated, all 4 having college degrees, not to mention Dr. May's incredible accomplishments of a PhD in, get this, Astrophysics!

I'm slightly behind on answering, anyway, I think if we were Julliard music scholars it would be easy to explain the complexity of Freddie's/Queen's songs....but I can tell you the more I learn about music and Queen the more I am getting the idea that Queen were more like classical musicians ( skill-wise) adapting those skills to Rock music. Some of the examples above help explain....amazing!!

That high F at 0:59 made Freddie Mercury immortal, however short/long this period of immortality may have been. High F at age 44 with voice nodules, a severe disease and twenty years of rock singing behind? Unheard of! But Freddie pulled it off superbly.

One of Queen's most underrated songs, Innuendo is one of their best albums IMO. The most heartbreaking thing about Freddie is that had he been infected just five years later, he would likely still be performing and in good health because so much changed in the 90's in terms of medication and the sort for people who are positive. I know the guy from Frankie Goes To Hollywood was infection a few years after Freddie and he's still healthy and actively performing. RIP Freddie
