  • This a beautiful poem, but what Edgar Allen Poe poem isn't? I must ask out of curiousity - is this really about his wife Virginia? I know the two loved eachother whole heartedly, but I just want to know.

  • @SailorMarie yes, it was about virginia, who was his wife, but also his cousin.

  • wait, so the angels killed her bec. they were jealous of the love between them?

  • you should try to read it again you sound stupid!!

  • I love the works of Edgar Allan Poe! He wasn't so called a dark poet always but he also had love, unfortunately it got destroyed!

  • wow, stupid auto fix on my iPod. -.- I meant him not Jim.

  • I love Poe's work. I really got hooked on English after a section on him in school. This was the first poem I read by Jim and it is still my favorite. :)

  • aww made me a lil sad

  • gave me chills. thank you.

  • To me, this is the most beautiful thing in literature.

  • Beautiful

  • I love this pome i can recite it by heart I can also recite the raven :D I love edgar allan poe <3

  • @beyondbirthday99 that's impressive the raven is pretty long

  • @hillerpride thx! ik it took me forever to learn it but it's my fav! so i had to :D

  • I love this poem, it's one of my favourites in fact, but I don't understand why everyone reads it so solemnly. I guess I just think it should be a bit happier, because when my dad used to read it to me he did it more that way.

  • love the poem, but I feel like this guy is about to lick my neck...

  • Amazing artist of words. His ghost has been seen near my town. Providence RI

  • Amazing artist of words. His ghost has been seen near my town. Providence RI

  • Touching and sad poem about the love and loss of his young wife Virgjnia.

Rip EAP , one of my all time favorite writters

  • One of my friends said that Poe is boring. I had to shoot him.

    I regret nothing.

  • @AgApE010 Boss Mode

  • I read some of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories in class, but i recently started to get more into Edgar Allen Poe because of the band Alesana, I saw them live recently & they did most song from their album 'The Emptiness.' which was based on this poem. & it got me into Edgar Allen Poe's work, I'm glad that Alesana choose such a beautiful poem to base their new album off.

  • I love this poem!! I already listened to this poem like..... more than a thousand times? It's so touching... <3

  • if you like edgar allen poe's work, i highly recomend the band Alesana. their album "the emptiness" is based on some of his better poems, annabel lee, and tell-tale heart, and some others

  • I have listened to many versions of this classic poem on Utube...This is by far, the best voice interpretation I've heard!!!!....I love the intensity of the voice reading one of my favourite poem the way it should be read!!!...Wicked!!!!

  • lol that was funny

  • @djstarr1997 0/10, bro.

  • @ipodcrazy523 thanx but im not a bro. and 0/10 for what, cuz whatever it is i would give it a 10/10

  • @djstarr1997 Yeah, you're a /b/ro. To say otherwise is an insult to yourself. And because you're a /b/ro, you know what 0/10 means.

  • @ipodcrazy523 u sound really stupid. that was probably the worst insult i've ever heard. so your saying for example, if i said i was a chic, that would be an insult? that makes no sense at all. you're really stupid. and dont say im stupid because i dont type properly. i know i dont type properly so u dont need 2 tell me.

  • @djstarr1997 You can still be a girl and be a /b/ro. You're trolling, and doing a pretty bad job at it. I mean, what are you, 12? It's pretty sad when you know you're not typing correctly yet don't care enough to fix it (either that or just too lazy).

  • @ipodcrazy523 i dont even know what trolling is and im 14 you bastard. dont pick on little girls. go to hell

  • @djstarr1997 You're not a "little girl" with language like that. You're just immature.

  • @ipodcrazy523 yeah i know. how old r u anyway?

  • if u guys like this an awasome band made two epic songs based on this poem the first and better one is called 'fall down and never get back up agian' its by La Dispute , an american band. its an amazing song.

  • edgar allen poe knew the dark side well make no mistake he was well versed and aware of the demons of this world.

  • This is my first time ever hearing this and my stupid English teacher is making people memorize it -.- i have to présent it tomorrow and I only know half of it but it's a good poem

  • this is such a great poem, listen to rendition of this poem by black rebel motorcycle club its beautiful

  • Sad ):

  • who would dislike Edgar Allen Poe?

  • @zayneyourworstpayne stephenie meyer readers

  • @zayneyourworstpayne i will guess..people who can't understand it? sad isn't it...

  • @siewen1 yes, yes it is

  • @zayneyourworstpayne there jus stupid and dont know poets

  • @zayneyourworstpayne seriously, who would??

  • @zayneyourworstpayne Great Question someone i wouldn't like to meet

  • It's such a beautiful poem. I really loved how Poe putted a lot of thought and care into how close the couple was and the descriptions he putted in to give the listeners pictures in their minds. The poem itself so dark yet so romantic in a way. I felt like the couples are very meaingful in a way.

  • @Italianlove09 Well, I thought I was using past tense but perhaps I was just simply using bad grammer. My mistake.

  • My favorite poem :33

  • Guys, the Annabel Lee was actually his wife, Virginia. After she died, he wrote this poem for her but he had to change the name to Annabel Lee so no one would get confused. He didn't marry his college crush because she refused, because he was an acholic.

  • this.... freakin awesome! :'D

  • Eerily beautiful. Poe was so refreshingly unique.

  • It's amazing the 1800's is when this man died yet people still talk about and love this man in 2011 if utube is still around then in 3011 some will right the same thing i did but change 2011 to 3011

  • this is sooo pretty! awwww.....anabelle lee is soo lucky!lol. this is perfect to listen to in November.

  • This is amazing. This is one of my all time favorite poems by Edgar Allen Poe, my idol as a writer, and I loved hearing the poem read like that. Simply perfect. :)

  • And when he was reading it at a party, Then he met The REAL annabel lee, His college crush. He asked her why she didn't answer his letters? she said she did, but HE was the one who did not answer, Then they figured it was Annabel's parents who stopped them from contacting. So He and annabel lee married but she died as well. He was a mad man after that.

  • In college Edgar wrote notes to his annabell but she never replied, He heard she was getting married so he went into depression. Started taking drugs. Then His aunt wanted to take him in, so he and her will take care of eachother, The aunt has a daughter, so Edgar marries her to be able to take care of her, He loved her alot. Soon Enough His wife had died ,adressed as Annabell Lee. Then, he wrote a poem about her.

  • i feel like Christopher Walken did the best job of any of the reading ive heard so far.but this guy has a pretty good voice for his poetry too

  • this where alesana get their theme for there third album.

  • Beautiful. I want a love that strong.

  • This is now my favorite poem(: I heard about it from my favorite band called Alesana they did a whole album on it called the Emptiness oh and they had music videos too(:

  • @StripedPajamasEater yeahh same i love Alesana and that album

  • @skategirl5050 Me too thats my favorite Album by them(:

  • @StripedPajamasEater Thats exactally how I heard about this poem. I absolutly love Alesana and I love what they did to the peom. The creativity they put in it with the album and The Thespian music video.!

  • @StripedPajamasEater Leave good poetry alone you fucking scene kid.

  • @shockofhyperbole uhh excuse me i'm actually not a scene kid so please don't judge me if you don't even know me. i think all that scene and emo crap is bull. a girl and myself were sharing why we came to listen to this poem. just because i like a screamo band doesn't make me "scene" or "emo". oh and by the way i never said this wasn't good poetry . -_-

  • Comment removed

  • @StripedPajamasEater this has been my favorite poem since i was 7. =D

  • @StripedPajamasEater and im 21 now. lol

  • who read this?

  • Comment removed

  • so beautifull ...

    i love poesia

especcially georgian and russian, if you could only understand georgian literature... so great !!

i advice you to search for ... terenti graneli, galaktion tabidze, vaja fshavela, ilia chavchavadze ... and if you wonna the best poem in the worlds try "shota rustaveli - vepxistyaosani" which was written in 12 th century and is one of the bests through the world.

  • That was gay

  • @Eggdude16 You must not know who and what kind of life Poe had. If you knew what type of life he had you would have sorrow listening to this poem right along with him. This was just a lonely man who mourned his dead wife.

  • XD this is like one of my favs by Edgar!!! he is the absolute bomb!!!

  • didn't he cheat on her?

anywho, i have to memorize this in 8th grade language arts... it flows easily, but it's awefully long. any tips from anyone?

  • @ThePikpikcarrot

Her? Sorry, in this poem Annebel is supposed to be one of his wifes, Virginia. John Allen, his foster father had many affairs while his wife Frances was ill with TB, which might be what you where thinking of. I gotta memerize some of this stuff to, for 9th grade speech and debate.

  • türkçesi daha güzel . En azından okuyan kişi..

  • I'm related to him...

Not really so proud of that fact.

  • @lxsrenick

Edgar had many wifes and lovers, but didn't once have a child, so from what I can tell your a ten-year-old child whos begging for attention.

  • @XGammaGod

I dont know who You think You are but you obviously dont have all the facts.

And by that reply I would say your the one asking for the attention.

Not anywhere close to being a ten year old. If anyone is that would be you because thats the age you are acting.

  • @lxsrenick In what way?

  • @differentstrokes9 My grandfather's mother's maiden name was Poe. Helen Poe. Helen was closely related to Edgar. Helen married a man with the last name of Carr. Carr left and Helen got remarried to another man named Edward Renick. So therefore that being where I now get my last name.

  • @lxsrenick oh, cool :)

  • @lxsrenick Why not, when he was one of the greatest poets of the world, and an extremely intelligent man who invented several literary genres, the detective story being one of them? He was unique and deeply original. I should be proud.

  • Comment removed

  • @ZolotayaKoshka Oh believe me, those things I am proud of.

But when you actually tell people they say things like,

"Your not going to marry your cousin too, are you?"

  • @lxsrenick Oh, I see. Yes, you must hand pick whom you choose to tell, then... People with taste and intelligence only.

  • I cry everytime I read this poem. As unhappy as Poe's life was, it can definitely be said that he was a romantic man and devoted husband. He's one of the greatest poets who ever lived.

The narrator of this audio version is very dynamic and really captures the tone of grief and romance. A+

  • Just one word: wonderful

  • one of the best poets in the world....... so much hurt in this poem

  • OMGGGGGGG that issss amazingggg who's telling it??!?!?!!? :) AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

  • this poem is about his wife. she died of t.b she was also his cuzzin.

  • This poem always stirs up the emotions in me. He really loved Virginia. I always thought Annabel Lee was always about her.

  • Gotta love Edgar Allan Poe. What a brilliant mind.

  • the speaker in the poem is a necrophiliac...no joke, look at the concluding lines. goes to show that Poe's poetry, although beautiful, has a dark side...

  • This sounds JUST like Jude Law, the actor.

  • @onionhead007 That's what I thought!

  • This is a wonderful Poem! :)

  • the stories about a man and a woman who love each other but then his beloved had been taken away from him as in dying he has no one to blame but the angels in the heavens

  • i just love poe

  • This poem by Poe is narrated so well!

  • It's so sad what Edgar Allan Poe went through

  • This is my favorite poem by Edger Allen Poe!!!

  • Some people say that Edgar was a fool. So be it, I love a fool's poetry.

  • you have an amazing voice! but what you say in the poem is very different from many other websites.

  • i love love love love love poe, and this is by far my fave poem of his

  • my name is annabel xD

  • I have heard/read versions where the last line was "in her tomb by the sounding sea."

  • great reading

  • This poem is enough to make anyone fall in love with poetry ...

    I envy Annabel Lee.

  • That is finest example of a verse how must be. But why the picture is single only. It could be much better if picture was changing. Reader has a talent, very magnetic voice.

  • Edgar ALLEN Poe. this author brought me so much nightmares

  • this poem is so beautiful. i absolutely love and adore Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe is my absolute favorite author. <3

  • Very nice...Edgar Allan Poe is the best poet and author ever....and this guy reads it well..

  • I LOVE POE! he's so good. Most people don't even understand his poems because the only way you can pick apart his angelic geneous is if you have felt pain as he did. True geneous.

  • Guys, he had SOOO many people die in his life so he did ALOT of drinking! He was living in the dark, alone and afraid. Not to see the light of day, or by the moon. (A little bit of my own poem) So cold and little did he know, the only thing he could do is to write about he felt, And Annabel Lee is a myth to thee, all who watch and read my sooth. Forbidden to see the tume of Annabel Lee. (End of Piece of poem) (By me.) Thank you thank you!!!!!!! LOL!

  • @funnystar16 lets not forget the opium addiction.

  • The original poem says "by the sounding sea" it's phail.

  • E A P IS NUTS! BUT I LOVE HIM :)

  • Pagan, that is not true. Heaven and hell do exist, and we have proof from afterlife experiences. More than a dozen miracles in the name of Christ happen around the world every week. There may be reincarnation, since death is only the beginning.

  • @DawnOfTheAcopalypse Out of body expriences do not prove that their is a heaven or hell because scientists have been able to recreate out of body expriences rather safely and with out temp. killing some one

  • everything from a rock to a man, has a soul, but doesn't go to heaven nor to hell, because there is no such thing as heaven or hell, someplace else than this very Earth......All the creatures reincarnate, which is a part of the evolution of the soul.......So "ThePoeticAngel", don't worry I'm sure you and your dog will meet again in some other form.....After all love is what brings all the creatures in the Universe together.....:)

  • The reason I love it is because it's about love being the most powerful thing in the world. Even when someone dies...you could still feel the love for that special person.

for example: I once had a dog named sarah and she died because she somehow got on the other side of the fence and a big dog killed her. That was four years ago. I still love her with all my heart. To me, Sarah wasn't just a pet that is adorable. To me she was my companion. I believe we will meet in heaven. :)

  • i understnd that you love dogs, but they dont go to heaven. dogs dont have a soul therefore, yeah cant go to heaven nor hell

  • all living things have souls...dogs just have a mortal soul that dies along with the body...humans are the only living creatures with an immortal soul, and therefore only they go to heaven or hell

  • tht guy sounds like jude law

  • im working on memorization(:the good thing is that its something i will enjoy doing

  • where are more works of this guy talking?

  • @FleaIsDaMan Does he turn you on?

  • oh ya

  • I will dig some out and load it up - just for you.

I too love this guys voice.

    Thanks.

  • @JustAudio2008 Where did you get this audio from? :}

  • I recorded this about 12 years ago for a client producing a collection of poems - now deleted.recorded AudioProductions studios London UK

  • my english teacher is making me memerize the whole poem and i finished tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

  • @lillexy1112 Your english teacher is a sadist
