I don't get it. Why does it cost so much? F*ck! I mean, i can get a windows 7 laptop with better specs than the Macbook Pro and it only costs 500 euro (approx. 650 dollars). And don't give me a BS answer because of its OS cause windows 7 is also a beautiful OS.

@Darkzeven66 No my friend, no windows pass operating system will perform like a Mac operating system. The reason is, they are built on two different platforms. Windows is built on MSDOS while Mac is Built on Unix, just like Linux. That makes it a much more powerful Operating system over windows.

As for the cost, I thing they are expensive because they are high quality stuff, built to last not like you run of the mill Laptop, thats my guess regarding cost.

Both have their ups and downs. As far as the OS it's self they both can do pretty much the same thing. The main downside is that there is a lot of software for PC that does not run on mac. Games are a big one, but you can get programs for mac that lets you run a lot of the most popular Windows programs on mac, And you can also use boot camp to install windows. Which would let you run all of the PC software.

you should have gotten the anti-glare matte screen....i studied both the glossy and matte, and the glossy on the macbook pro seems to be even more reflective than pc laptops w/ glossy displays.....i did side by side comparison b/w mattte and glossy, and the colors really arent that much noticably better on the glossy- whatever difference there is its not worth putting up with the glare from basically ANY light point around

Actually... You can't use Windows EXE directly, you need to make a partition with boot camp and buy an OEM copy of windows and install it on that partition and then you can boot into windows and use your windows programs. Although most software comes in DMG and APP format too.

I ordered a customized one yesterday with 8GB Ram, 3.06GHz processor and with anti-glare screen. I am wondering if there is a way to turn off backlit of the keyboard in case if I want to watch movies in dark?

Nice buy. Yes, not only can you turn it off you can control how bright it is. This can be controlled but pressing the F5 and F6 keys.

I`m also looking to switch on apple`s macbook pro 2.8 ghz, (upgrading to 3.06).

2day I was in a apple shop and testing the mac but the screen fell out a few times and the laptop got very hot while I wasnt doing anything special...just clicking around.

You or other mac users have this problem also?

The only time it really gets very hot, Is when I have it laying on my bed or I'm doing graphics work. other then that it just gets warm.

if you have the money to spend I would go with the Macbook Pro. I have been using it for almost 3 mouth now and I absolutely love it. I run windows vista on my desktop, and it crashes in some shape or form daily. My mac has not even shown one sign of a glitch.

OK to be fair here I wouldn't pin the blame on windows. I triple boot Ubuntu, Windows 7, and Hackintosh on my Gateway laptop, have Vista installed on my custom-built gaming desktop, and am currently earning up for the MBP 17.

Windows, by itself, is a stable and fast OS. People just dont seem to understand that third party apps are what brings it down. Go to run>mscconfig and disable all non-msoft services and programs and I guarantee you will have no problems with windows.

The reason macs cost alot of money is because you do not need to worry about viruses. Better to pay more now than to be sorry later. One of the reasons I love Apple.

I have look at matte screen before and I personal like the gloss much better. I think the gloss shows colors and contrast better.

I agree that the colors look better on the glass screen, but it is a glass screen, and dark parts look almost like a mirror. It's rather distracting, and a bright backlit doesn't solve the problem. If you use it in a dark place or a not so bright place most of the time, it's fine, but I'm always moving around so yea.. I suppose it depends on the person. I just wish Apple offered the matte screen on the 15". We are paying for it, so why not offer the option?

I have no idea. I am with you I can never figure out why they would offer something for one product and not the others. It could be just that their taking one project at a time and it was the 17" turn for major upgrades and the 15" will be next on the list. But yeah I do most of my work in low light so the glare does not bother me much at all. I am more of a night owl lol

Just wondering, what do you think of the black bezel? I think that the silver one matches with the rest of the Mac better since it's mostly silver.

I think the black bezel is more of a trick to make the colors on the screen look brighter. Colors that have dark backgrounds look bright than on lighter backgrounds.

And I also kinda like it.

The matte option on the new 17" actually doesn't look good in my opinion because they change the besel and the whole screen. The gloss glass effect looks much nicer.

lol that's really a matter of opinion because I really like the silver bezel and I don't really like the black one. I would have been fine if they offered a silver version with a glossy screen, but a black bezel and a glass covering.... the glass makes it's heavier too :O

actually it is heavy... u cant lift it with our one hand, unless u hold it in the middle. also when u r holding it in the air it seems heavy, however it is ok to hold it on ur knees... except that it gets hot, and i mean really hot.
