Just bought a new 500gb version and very impressed. Been buying Archos products for 7 or 8 years now and whilst they are never bug free they are great value for money and I still prefer to use their units over my 32gb iPhone. The screen is fantastic, bright very sharp and responsive. Certainly recommended and a relative bargain too! Next version? 128/256gb flash and a CAMERA!! Plus convince Skype to offer on Android and stop wasting their time with crappy Windows Mobile 6.5 variants.

I just bought the ARCHOS 5 Android 500Gb Internet Tablet... and it is definitely a great product... I am completely satisfied ... especially when I connect it to TV and I stream all contents from my laptop... nothing better than the ARCHOS... way to go... I'm looking forward to get the Archos 9 soon, only thing with the Archos 9 I won't be able to record off from TV... tnx Archos your the best...

The problem with the market..

I mean as they said, a portable device is only good as it's connected to the internet, it is also only good if you have lots of GAMES and APPS for it - why can't you use the original market ?

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR FREE SOFTWARE ?

i totally agree, its riduculous that you need to pay for plug ins, but to be honest, it has alot over the itouch (though the itouch is still very nice) and i think that the A5 IT is very sexy :)

Possible the people of g4 tv dont download a new firware for the divice,the people of g4 likes apple ipods.I say this because i see here in youtube many independent reviews and the archos5(android )function well.

They could have easily put the android firmware on the archos 5 and made you feel like spending 350 beans was worth it. But instead they want you to spend another 350 for their new product which they say can do gps, radio, powerpoint files and so on. Look at the reviews online from g4tv they say that they weren't able to use most of the features promised and they state it crashed 3 times while trying to use the internet. They release these in a buggy state and promise to fix them with updates...

Look people Archos is a HUGE scam, they want you to buy their flashy product and invest in it so they can take your money and instead of giving you support they make plans to realease a new product line. Their representatives are very rude and take no consideration to your concerns, only boast their next product and tell you they put your concern in their suggestion box...

If you look on the forums this has pissed many people off, including me. Now because they stopped support the "internet tablet" is really just a media tablet. No longer can you watch hardly any youtube vids, websites only partially load and most addons don't even work. I called archos support once again with my concerns and they said "its out of there hands because websites and youtube is changing format to flash 10 and the archos 5 only has flash 9." One thing the representative kept saying...

Guys I bought the new archos 5 just after it came back and I have since returned 3 of them, for hardware issues which Archos support could not resolve. I spent about 40min to 1 and half trying to reach their technical support. Finally after the 4th one I got one that worked without any issues since. Now just as I get settled in to use their product, they come out with a new product and have said that there will be one last update for archos 5 and then they are focusing attention on the android.

PLEASE PEOPLE READ THIS!!!, be warned that Archos is the worst company for: reliable products, knowing of failures and keep selling the product without any fix, worst customer service in the planet, they leave a product half odone and start doing another one, i say this out of experience, they are the reason why I'm afraid to be innovative and buy any gadget without reading 1000000 of reviews and forums before buying anything, it sure taught me a lesson, DONT BUY ARCHOS PRODUCTS!!

i bought the 605wifi, without knowing anything about archos. bought it years agom in all those years they released ONE update. think that was the one to prevent hacking.

may look nice, but looks arent everything. imho a mid NEEDS a capacitive screen. also, they didnt even include the standard android market

the only hope you have, is that some developers will pick it up and create custom roms for it, like they're doing on XDA

It plays youtube. It has built in flash and other crap so u can virtually go anywhere on the web with out any problems.

watched the videos on their site... the touch screen interface seemed not to be up to par with other devices. the graphics look a bit old. he would add a song to the playlist twice instead of just once... he would fail to grab the scroll bar sometimes... stuff like that.

If they fix these minor interface issues I think this can blow the Zune HD clear out of the water.

I love the look and tech in this product, but I hate that it only transfers anything from an SD card, I know it sounds lazy but iTunes is very convenient compared to having to transfer music from an SD to a computer. But other than that, this pretty much is the greatest handheld device to date. Ipod and Zune can't touch this, but the price is really steep but I guess it's actually cheap when you realize you get 500 gb
