  • You guys should look up Marc Martel. He beats this guy into the ground. Even Queen's drummer has said that Marc sounds and looks like Freddie.

  • GREAT!! I've got nothing to say.

  • GREAT!! I've got nothing to say.

  • Gary is the ONLY PERSON (this side of heaven) I want to hear sing Queen music.

  • Marc martell is much better. this guy does good stage performance but marcs voice is much better! I mean Queen band members chose Marc as the person to lead their own tribute band. That kind of ends the controversy. His own bandmates would be the better judge as they were there with Freddie. Marc is undeniably the better.

  • @mgebi1 Actually, Gary's voice is a lot better now... this video was uploaded 4 years ago. And to say that Gary's voice her is superb, NOW it's just unbelievable.

And plus, when the members for Queen extravaganza were being chosen, Roger wasn't looking for people to replace Freddie or anyone else. Obviously Marc sounding a lot like Freddie helped him an awful lot, but Roger didn't chose him just for that reason.

  • A good copy of an original brilliant artist......

  • He try to be Freddy

  • @Shawnhalen umad?

  • @Shawnhalen Rigged, self-aggrandizing garbage.

  • @Shawnhalen Martel lol.

  • The starting sounded like Freddie Mercury but then the actual singing wasn't that good. He can dress and act like freddie but he's not even close to freddie. But the beggining was actually very close.

  • Im gonna see them in Hamburg in 7 days !!

  • Martel obviously looks more like Freddy...But I'm sorry, He captures Freddy's voice better than anyone I have heard. I think he did great, and obviously so did the THOUSANDS in attendance to his show. He isn't Freddy, he looks creepy...But he has pipes and you have to give him that. Great job Gary.

  • The bass players my uncle :)

  • Comment removed

  • his vibrato is way too "operatic".. FM's was all throat. Plus, he exaggerates FM's erratic/staccato/lazy live style (this was how FM sang at his very very worst). Finally, his voice doesn't have FM's brightness. Not bad, but not great.

  • perfect...briliant...bless you god..

  • He's got the mannerisms down pat, but Marc Martel sounds a lot more like Freddie.

  • Ok, he´s ok, but HE´S NOT LIKE FREDDIE AT ALL!!!! did you really heard freddie´s voice enough times? I mean C´MON!!!!

  • You guys are nuts, this is horrible karaoke.

  • This made me wanna watch the live at wembley concert.

  • great vidéo of gary mullen click on my pseudo...gary filming with my camera during a song ...Fabulous ! thanck you gary freddy !

  • Search Dios Salve a la reina Somebody to love concepcion

  • i prefer marc martel

  • @wilalb1 hey my friend see the others covers of gary mullen...like "the great pretender..spread your wings...the show must go on" barcelona"...i love queen...and i'm musician...listeen this plz...They impressed me too much...

  • he is the best

  • I think he sings it too fast and erraticly, but it's okay I guess. I'd rather people try to make it their own rather than try to imitate Freddie (He just can't be beaten)

  • He is not Freddie Mercury. They are not Queen. No one can expect them to be. What they are, however, is very good at what they do and I love the idea that I can pretend, if even for a few hours, that I'm in the midst of one of the greatest bands of all time. Rest in peace Freddie. Keep up the GREAT work Gary and band, I'll see you in March!

  • makes me sad...maybe he is so good but not Freddie

  • He Massacres the song in my opinion, although he has interesting vocals at the end. Freddy could have done this kind of interpretation but a cover band for me should try to reproduce the song as we know it.

  • @stephm69mtl That's how Freddie sang it live when his voice was tired, this was taken from a world tour.

  • if only he looked more like freddy...:/

  • iF i don't see his face I can say he is fREDDIE mERCURY he's really good

  • I will never say someone sounds like Freddie until I see that someone perform night after night a two hour show, on a large stage, in front of a huge crowd and still have the power that Freddie had in his voice.

I have yet to see that someone. For now Gary Mullen is the closest and he still is not that close to Freddie.

  • This sounds like FM live. Martel sounds like the recording. Both good.

The reason Martel's voice is so good is because he's not all over the stage. What you gain in stage presence you lose in vocal tone. Martel's BH is nothing short of amazing, all one take and live.

  • Hey wait a minute - his armband is on the wrong arm!

  • @MaxxGladiator well spotted! :)

  • @MaxxGladiator jajaja yo también lo pensé

  • The difference between this guy and Marc Martel is stage presence. Watch some of the Martel videos. He is extremely talented, but a typical Christian band performer.

While no one will ever replace Freddie, Gary sounds very good and has studied Freddie is great depth.

Re. the comment that he is trying too hard to be Freddie - what a troll.

We WANT him to resemble Freddie - this is what makes him so much fun.

I hope he does very well. Seems like a great person as well~!

  • not even close lol

  • Hey Gary, listen to Marc Martel's audition video on the Queen Extravaganza website. Marc sounds EXACTLY like Freddie.

  • He tries way too hard to look like Freddie.

  • @minka7575 hence ... " Tribute " band ,,,

  • Martel sounds better, I don't get why the comments on his video were saying this guy was good.

  • This guy is good in IMITATING Freddie Mercury...but MARTEL sounds more natural...and he's not in a tribute band.

  • Mullen or Martel who gives a shit, both have serious failings in the moustache department.......get it sorted or you'll never be a nearly freddie,

  • Martel is better. He has a flair about him and an an effortlessness. If Martel belted it out he could kill. This guy has talent but he's trying SO damn hard. I feel like he's gong to hurt himself. Marc Martel is the MAN.

  • @crubeo Perhaps Martel doesn't belt it out because he can't.

  • @spongefreddie

He probably can. It's one thing to be in a room and quite another to be on a stage ... calls for two different approaches.

  • Here's my 2 cents...

Martel is WAAAAY better. Everyone is astounded with how much he sounds like Mercury.

  • @stopgeorge martel is 70's mercury

    gary is 80's mercury

  • @stopgeorge Are you shitting me? Martel is a good singer, but he doesn't sound much like Mercury. He's only popular NOW because his video made it to tash.0 or whatever its called.

  • @stopgeorge Well your two cents are way off, people will forget Mark in time. Gary sounds a lot closer and was on tv and went on world tours, and now people have forgotten him too.

  • @stopgeorge see the videos "Amazing Freddie Mercury Soundalike: Gary Mullen - SPREAD YOUR WINGS" and "Amazing Freddie Mercury Soundalike Gary Mullen THE GREAT PRETENDER Recorded LIVE at The Big " ...Martel will be a joke for you if you see these covers XD

  • @stopgeorge Im afraid youre incorrect, this guy is much better. So im glad thats sorted then.

  • Martel? No way... I've heard him. I'm a manic Queen fan ever since 86 and spent more than 10.000 hours listening to Freddie's voice. There are SOME ELEMENTS in his voice that sound SOMETHING like Freddie. In the loud-volume yells he has the same timbre, but not 100% Freddie's sound. I don't understand why people make such a fuss about Martel.... I imitate Freddie myself but I don't consider myself good enough. Since I heard Martel...i decided to upload some things. Cos I'm better than Martel ^^

  • @Pascalsmit1971 you obviously haven't listened enough. some things are just undeniable. this guy isn't even CLOSE to Martel.

  • Marc Martel is way better, sounds EXACTLY like Freddie. Look him up. Either way, this guy is still great

  • @jyfosho Are you retarded? Martel sounds way too barbershop opera to be Freddie. He's got no power or passion in his voice. Gary actually sounds like Freddie, Martel is just a good singer.

  • @SigandGibbs Martel sings the song EXACTLY like Freddie Mercury. There's a vid that has both Martel and Freddie singing at the same time. Do a search on YouTube for: Freddie Mercury & Marc Martel Mashup - Somebody To Love **Public Voting Nov 14th**

  • @leahbethm Er, no, he doesn't. He sings kind of like Freddie at certain points, but his style, and the sound of his voice, is entirely different.

  • @SigandGibbs I agree, Gary's style is more like Freddie's actually, especially with regards to trying to mimic Freddie's power and charisma. However, No one comes close to Freddie.

  • MARC MARTEL IS BETTER

  • @KyleJPie10 Martel could be Freddie's clone...

  • of course hes not as good as freddie. no one is.

but imitation is the highest form of flattery. why you guys hatin? this is a TRIBUTE to the god of rock. and i applaud him for it

  • Voice is good, but it sounds so unnatural. He tries to copy Freddie too much

  • NOT A FREDDY!!!

  • no matter what i saw queen 5x gary 2 if you close your eyes you are there hands down gary was given a gift because we were not suppose to forget freddie ever!

  • OMG!!! Freddie is living in this person!!! You got my respect dude!!!

  • He Is Fucking Sound Great

  • Happy Birthday Freddie! This guy is good, really good....if he is in a tribute band he should try to sound like Freddie.....but not try to be Freddie. I think I would be more accepting if he just kicked fucking ass with his voice, but not with the mimicry.

  • This video both scares and amazes me everytime.

  • what is the value of good imitation?

  • Great way to earn a living you've got my vote Gary. you rock . Must come to one of your shows .

  • Wat een walgelijke vertooning. xxx Queen-fan vanaf 1973

  • Queen should record new album with Gary. That would be great. We already have Benoit David in YES, Arnel Pineda in Journey, and they soung pretty good!

  • I saw these guys live a few years back and they were AMAZING! If they are near you, def go see them!

  • 1:24 Who the fack zoomed in on the facking weeners?!

  • カップヌードルはこいつの仕業か…。

    日本に来れば営業で相当稼げるはず。

    芸術ではないが、芸能としては高いレベルかと…。

  • jajajajajajajajajajaja never!!!

  • I saw "One Night of Queen" 1 year ago and was blown away. The whole night was fun and I'm still amazed at how the band actually sounded like the real Queen. The man is an amazing tribute the the late, great Mercury.

  • No effin way!!! this is SWEET!!! Im going to see them tonight actually im syked and i cant wait to see them!!! He sounds a lot like Freddie at some parts!!! Like in the beginning and when he does the yeahs and he adds the little extra things it's phenonimonal!!! also i find it super awesome that the guitar player has long (and somewhat corly hair) like Brian May AND plays a Red Special replica!!! that's just too awesome!!! now im officially super excited to see them!!!

  • Gary is fantastic! But if you want my honest opinion, I think Gregory Finsley sounds even more like Freddie than Gary does. He has a lesser known tribute band of his own called Queen For A Day, although he does an occasional gig with Queen Nation. I believe that he is the best Freddie sound-a-like, but then again that's just my opinion. But Gary is an incredible singer!

  • WOAHHHHH! O_O. If Freddie were still alive (he is in our hearts), I want to see him perform with this guy!

  • I just saw these guys at "The Bluebird Theater" on their opening night of their U.S. tour and they were FANTASTIC!!!! I will always MISS FREDDY! But damn it people, he's gone and freaking Queen won't get off their asses and do anything music wise for their fans...so in the meantime....this band FREAKING ROCKS AND KEEPS FREDDY'S and the BANDS MEMORY ALIVE! One Night of QUEEN YOU ROCK!!! From the cute Red Head that toasted you at the end!!! Cheers again!!!

  • Pacing is a little fast, but that was AWESOME.

  • this man is the best freddie impersonator!!!!!!! I can't believe this man can imitate freddie so well!!!!

  • my god you can see how good mercury was - when you watch other people try to emulate him...this guy is struggling in places....

  • This is why Brian and Roger have to get John to agree to a "Fantasy Tour". With Gary singing lead vocals they'd be playing to sold out, die hard Queen Fans who yearn for the good old days of Queen with Freddie. Gary pays tribute to everything that was unique about Freddie Murcury and he's got a great voice too!

  • canta mucho mejor que paul rogers deberia probar con los verdaderos QUEEN felicitaciones gary mullen :)

  • is this 'queen,' the broadway musical?

  • vean los videos de dios salve a la reina pienso que son los mejores imitadores de queen

  • excelente imitador de freddie

deberia ser el vocalista de queen

  • his head voice sounds alot like FM.. but whats with the lower chest voice crap.. cringe worthy

  • =D Not To Brag Or Anything But Billy Moffat The Bass Player Is My Uncle =) :L

  • @KGxRFC =D not to brag myself but Gary Mullen in my Best friends uncle. I'll give your tow names Bonner and Dougan.

  • I hate the chorus voices. So wrong.

    Gary is pretty good though.

But nobody will every replace Freddy.

  • would have been better if they played it at exactly the correct tempo and also get that, rolling 123456, 123456, 123456, swaying beat correct. Watch the live QUEEN video and see what I mean.

  • @Lockemeister Gary sounds better slower, but queen have played at this tempo live lots of times.

  • @Lockemeister What the fuck you on about... Are you even in a band??

  • @Lockemeister he plays the right tempo.its a 6/8 tempo liek the song are you sure your knowing a lot Queen ? i dont think about that lol!!

  • @jbelmaestro

    That's a time signature, not a tempo.

  • @TheDarkFrontier time signature what do you mean about that?

  • @jbelmaestro

A time signature is the divisions of a single bar in a piece of music :) The top number indicates how many of a particular note, and the bottom note indicates the type of note involved. For example; this song, mostly in 12/8, has twelve quavers in a bar. Eighth notes (the 8) are quavers. Most songs are written in 4/4, so four crotchets per bar. It's the pulse of the song. For this song you could count - 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a in a swing rhythm. I hope that makes sense haha

  • @TheDarkFrontier yeah i know all you say im a musicna too for about 15 years it jsut that your view about that make me nonsense to me.it js that im used to use other way but well nevermind.but i woulld say its more a 6/8 song than a 12/8 because you can count like this:

123456 because if yopu look to a sheet of it you will see that its in 6/8 but its the same but as you said its a time signatutre so it counts the same but its about the music... hope you understand what im saying haha ;))

  • @jbelmaestro

It's not in 6/8, this song is in 12/8. The pulse of the song is exactly the same whether a song is in 6/8 or 12/8, but the phrases are spread over two bars if it would be 6/8, which wouldn't make sense. Take the line "can't barely stand on my feet" you can fit two counts of 1aa2aa3aa4aa in there, which implies 12/8. Also I have the sheet music for this song, and mine is in 12/8.

  • @jbelmaestro

Also, you don't count 6/8 as 123456, well you could, but you wouldn't get the swing feel of the time signature. To get the feel you'd have to count it as 1 and a 2 and a

It's not my view by the way, tempo and time signatures are different things.

  • @TheDarkFrontier ivgot the bass line collection book ofr Queen and on it its on 6/8 but your right its the same i dont want to argue about that.anyway we are both right so lol

  • @TheDarkFrontier yeah your rigght in fact you countedthe crotchet too whereas me i count with the beat and the bacjbeat so its not the same that wahy you you count in 12/8 and me i counted in 6/8 thats we have different view of that tempo signature

but it doesnt matter we have right both so...

  • @jbelmaestro

    Time signature*

You count 6/8 and 12/8 the same way. 6/8 you can count as 1 and a 2 and a. Six quavers. 12/8 you can count as 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a. Twelve quavers. They're not the same thing. You're right thought thinking about it, you could count 6/8 as 123456, if you counted it in a swing rhythm. I just find it easier with the other method, counting 12/8 as 123456789101112 would be a bit of a bitch haha :P 12/8 is almost a swung 4/4 in its chord patterns.

  • All in all, they're both lovely time signatures to play. They seem to have a kind of unstoppable rolling quality to them.

  • @Lockemeister

Well, they were playing in 12/8 - the original time signature of this song in this video. As for tempo, there's no such thing as an "incorrect" or "correct" tempo for a song. You can play it as fast or as slow as you like. Sure if you played this at like 54bpm, it would sound silly, but it wouldn't be wrong.

  • is that a flemish lion at the intro

    i like that people

you realy see the yellow flag

  • Wow is all i can say he is amazing

  • To listen to another version

  • well done lad sounds good

  • This guy is good. I would not want to see him front Queen. The whole idea of Paul Rodgers, and any other singer they may get is to not have somebody that tries to sing/act like Freddie.

  • @studyaid Thats an interesting point!

  • oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh oh my god :O please go to my country now :O you are amazing

  • Wow that background singer sounds like bad ass!

  • Wow.

  • sandy... you've got ALL THE REASON!!! he MUST been the new QUEEN singer... I stopped to listen Queen since P.R. is the singer... for me they are NOT QUEEN!!!!

  • ok this guy is good but there is a band in argentina called dios salve a la reina......his singer is the best imitator of freddie in the world

  • @ayrtonmcrae Why are you going on Gary Mullen videos and posting the same comment? The vocalist you are mentioning 1. Pronounces English differently than a native English speaker does and 2. Has a very different tone than Freddie's. The only 2 things he does better are playing the piano(obviously) and looking more like Freddie, but as a singer? Gary sounds a lot closer to Freddie than that guy.

  • No doubt hi sings great.

But it looks some kind of sad and even disgusting watching him imitating Freddie.

I don't know. Wonder what is he thinkihg while performing?

  • Just been to his koncert in Denmark!

Fantasitic job, his voice reminded me about Freddie!

RIP freddie, greates singer of all time! .

  • he ODs the Mercury moves, too much too much.

  • @koalajones88 i know, but it was rare, i was just summarising things, the average fan hasn't listened to bootlegs.

  • Good job dude but it is impossible to compete with perfection.

  • Sensacional!!!!!! Congratulations!

  • Ive seen Gary every time he is in glasgow and he is the next best thing to freddie mecury he is fantastic and his band the works are brilliant well done Gary you deserve to have got where you are your tribute to Freddie is second to none

  • @emrabt Naw I think John Blunt from Killer Queen sounds closer to him plus he looks a lot more like him.

  • @thebiggestqueenfan

Thing is, he sounds like elvis, not Freddie to me, the only song John sounds even remotely like Freddie in is CLTCL. His drummer has a very thick Swedish accent too, very noticeable during backing vocals. Gary sounds alot more like freddie when he slows down, some part of too much love will kill you are very close. youtube.com/watch?v=LiA_E5ULflI#t=0m33s

  • John Blunt sounds nothing like Freddie. Gary Mullen, and Gregory Finsley have more resemblance to Freddie's timbre.

Mullen sounds like a non-smoking 1986 Freddie with a scottish accent, Finsley sounds like Freddie from the early 1980s (with a lighter timbre).

  • @Gregsynthbootlegs Mullen doesn't sound like a non smoking Freddie in the mid 80's, he just somewhat replicates the power Freddie had in his voice. He's a great singer though but I never got how people thought he sounded like Mercury

  • HIs phrasing is very similar to a 1986 Mercury. He does sound like a non-smoking mid-80s Freddie. Have a look at some of the 2010 footage on here (not this footage). Gary sounds more like Freddie now (than then).

  • @thebiggestqueenfan

The timber and the singing techniques have a lot to do with it, Mullen has the best "Freddie singing style" I’ve ever heard, in my opinon he’s able to replicate the way Freddie sang and compensated for notes he couldn’t reach. In 2005 when he first won stars, he wasn’t very good, but as the years have gone on it has become closer to mercury’s 86 "style" with a much better range..

  • @thebiggestqueenfan

I guess you either hear it or you don't.

    try this snippet from 2009.

    watch?v=LiA_E5ULflI#t=0m33s

  • @emrabt I think it's extremely rare to find someone with a voice even remarkably similar to Freddie. The closest I've actually heard is the singer from one of those asian Queen tribute band's who tone of voice actually resembled Freddie's much more than Gary Mullen's does which is probably because Freddie was also asian

  • But Freddie didn't have an Asian accent!

  • freddie revivio

  • This guy is awesome.

  • i saw one night of queen last night hes amazing!

  • Freddie es inimitable! Aunque lo hace bastante bien!

  • Freddie es inimitable!

  • this guy should be in the queen movie not bloody borat

  • joder,canta muy muy parecido,pero freddie es el nº1

  • I've been to see Gary- It was brilliant! :)

  • this guys great i dont giva shit who sais what

  • i had to listen twice to this.i remember him doing the stars in thier eyes but didnt know he went on to bigger things,i agree witha few comments here that he needs to get with queen as they would be good with him

  • Haha.

Well I know he didn't sing Somebody To Love!

  • Not a patch on Joseph Lee Jackson - MERCURY. Check out the youtube videos and you'll see what I mean.

  • Gary sounds like older Freddie, and the guy from DSR sounds like 70s, younger, Freddie. They both sound good, but just sound like different ages of Freddie. :)

  • très très très impressionnant au niveau vocal - on ferme les yeux et on voit freddy !

  • he is good.he respects freddie that much.he is the closest thing we have to freddie now.
