  • oh ya i caught this movie. the description read, a couple loses their baby and go out to the woods to relax where odd things happen. well paraphrased but it did use odd things happen to describe genital mutilation. seriously i was like what the? OH SHIT!! NOOOO!!! WWTTTTFFFF!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!!! after 20 minutes of that i was like KILL THAT BITCH!!! BLUDGEON HER WITH THAT WRENCH!!! WHY IS SHE STILL ALIVE!!! PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS!! NOOOO!!!! YES!!! FINALLY!!! what the shit took so long!?!

  • @fescolfaro It was a joke, you oversensitive baby.

  • Before I forget, after all this grovel (beautifully executed technically, he's a cinematic genius), showing up at Cannes and saying "I'm a nazi, I understand Hitler" is further proof of his bleak outlook on life and another good reason for me not to waste any more time with his existential void displayed on film. Sadistic and pointless, clear traits of a nazi.

  • @fescolfaro if I could give you more than one thumbs up, I would. I completely agree. Those who find beauty within this film's displays surely have a similar "existential void" that they characterize within their own everyday reality. it conveys nothing substantial or intellectual from an objective standpoint, but definitely shows well the world as the delusional author sees it. Lots of delusional, sick-minded folks out there can identify with it, though, I'm sure.

  • @fescolfaro I should also concur with you on your point regarding the film's cinematography. Some of the visual impressions are very well done and appealing.

  • everyone watch possession 1981 with sam neil - it is very very similar.

  • @loz1023 I have to admit that I also saw quite a few similarities between the both films, but in two different ways. hard to explain :)

  • This film had me transfixed from start to finish. I must watch it again.

    Thanks for posting :)

  • I was awe struck throughout this movie, it was a very powerful experience. HOWEVER, I cannot think of one single positive thought or feeling derived from watching it. I wasn't by all means a better person after watching it, and it ruined my fucking sunday.

So, Trier dominates the medium, is a master director, but as a human being has mostly bad feelings and thoughts to express on the canvas. A big waste in my eyes.

  • @fescolfaro The movie actually has a thoroughly positive message of emancipation. It just doesn't serve it on a silver platter. However, even if he decided to express "bad feelings", so what? Life isn't all good and ignoring what is bad in the world, focusing merely on the happy, sunshine-filled facets of it, is extremely superficial and dangerous. Acknowledging the bad will make you a better, more understanding person more likely than avoiding it.

  • @kortexsirvasil Well, after the nazi remark I can state more emphatically that you have a moot point. My point is, there is no bad, it's all a choice. You can blame demons and sorcery, but in the end there is one person willingly choosing to affect another negatively. Much like this director, who did it beautifully. A month ago, when a friend of mine told me about the nazi director I wasn't surprised it was Trier.

  • @fescolfaro Is there? Is EVERYTHING under your control? Are you a female so you can claim you have fought the millenia of oppression, that your life is under your control? Are you one of the lucky few to be of the accepted ethnicity? I believe there are literally billions of people who have to suffer through lives they cannot affect, people who would not understand the "all is possible if you try hard enough" mentality simply because it would kill them. There is bad and you have to fight it.

  • @kortexsirvasil Are you even reading what I'm writing? I'm saying that "bad" (I think evil is the word you are looking for) is man made. So no. There is evil in the minds of those who 'cause it, and not simply "there is evil". A lion is not evil when he eats his prey. Nature is not evil when it takes a loved one of old age. Accepting the lion and death is being dispassionate, not at all the message here. Murder is not natural, oppression is not natural. Raw sadistic violence is not natural.

  • @kortexsirvasil That Millennia of female oppression you spoke of, the ENTIRE CONCEPT of an accepted ethnicity, ALL of the billions who suffer in the world. ALL of it was wrought by the mind and mentality of the mass of humanity. Nature, the universe, god, satan or whatever had nothing to do with it. There was NO OUTSIDE source. The countless gazillions of choices made every day by human beings throughout recorded time are the sole contributing factor. There is bad because WE MADE IT LIKE THAT.

  • @kortexsirvasil the lack of control in the lives of man these days is a result of the chaos that is the result of our choices. Chaos is like a wave, and it can carry people along its course. But we can choose to make the effort to swim outside of the wave, along a different course. It would take effort, but it is our choice. Reality as we know it becomes as we think it. Because everyone perceives reality differently, there is chaos. Chaos is not evil. It is a just a force, like nature.

  • @Xiouslaidyn Very comforting to see I'm not alone here :) I agree 100% with everything you wrote, and I was actually trying my best (but probably not succeeding as you did) at saying more or less the same.

  • @Xiouslaidyn Whilst trying to appear intellectual you have called the creator an idiot and made several statements which are deterministic and reductionist as well. Yours is an opinion which would better be received in a public forum dedicated to film, not youtube. You may not agree or like Lars Von Trier but he had a vision and created it.

  • @kortexsirvasil To close it, there is bad or evil as long as you believe in it. Sadness relates to dispassion, and there'll always be things that are considered unhappy events in our lives. But going out of your way to bring sadness into somebody's life, be it for your gain or pure sadism, has absolutely no relation to being dispassionate, and it isn't a part of life. As soon as everybody understands this, there's peace, and not "bad" as something natural. I refuse it, it's an imposition.

  • @fescolfaro Lars is not dispassionate. He's spent months trying to convey his pure emotions. If you think Antichrist is too emotionless, you may try his other movies, like The Idiots, but those might alienate you even further. Lars makes movies corresponding to his mental state, he is more "real" than you harmony worshiping people could ever hope to be, he's seen the dark side, he's seen the bright side... What's his conclusion? That's the art in his work, you can guess but you never know.

  • @kortexsirvasil Lastly, this movie isn't making people "aware" or better about "how evil" roams around anymore than a run of the mill pornographic movie raises feminine rights awareness. If you're looking for that you should start by watching Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech, not a bloody masturbation of violence and sex (pun intended). I'm thinking the alienated might be on the other end of this discussion. Clear yourself of prejudices, "bad" isn't just out there.

  • @kortexsirvasil because there is no conclusion. I'm sure The Idiot (lars) would tell you that himself. The "dark side" is within his mind, other minds, probably your mind. It is a manufactured aspect of reality, man-made. Evil didn't exist until man thought of it and than created it. That's a frightening aspect of being self-aware beings. We have to ability to live within the nature of the world, but also to create our own nature. And individuality makes more diversity in that regard.

  • The best movie I've seen in years. There's no good or bad, there's no god, there's no devil, there are only ignorant human beings.

  • fantastic movie.....thumbs up lars.......i have been through most of it .....wish everybody happiness

  • Oh my God! This movie looks unbelievably good. I think I might netflix this tonight.

  • Did they have any real sex in this movie btw?

  • @VictorRechnageL They had professional pornstars do the sex scenes, methinks.

  • Lars von Trier - The best RL troll to exist, yet.

  • 田馥甄

  • I'm at odds with the film. Why does Trier get away with this? If you merged PERSONA with SAW you get ANTICHRIST. The sadness, the creepy tone, the visuals, the quietness, a world within a world just "He" and "She." He scores points for these things. Yet it seems like he's interested in only visceral effect. I don't mind surrealism but I was hoping for a little more narrative like the Blair Witch Project. Instead it's all a mixed bag. Somehow aesthetically inspiring. Still an unsuccessful story.

  • the first hour is quiet allright but then it gets more and more disgusting and cheaply striking. fist a talking fox, then the woman destroyes his genetals and legs with some rusty tools. then she cuts her clitoris wtih a pair of sicissors. U see all that in close up view.. thats nothing but a cheap claptrap, but thats how von trier works. And thats what callow artists and critics honor. Defoe and gainsbourg r great actors, what a pity they waste their talent in a lars von trier film

  • YES! Lars Von Trier is the most narcissistic genius on EARTH!

  • Remarkable and I also admire his assertiveness that he got to dedicate this movie to Andre Tarkovski!!! Good job Lars.

  • Hello great vid I was in Cannes check out vid I made on line viewing free movie clips europeantourvideos dot com also filmed in Paris Nice large photo gallery

  • is this a serious version of Evil Dead? :P

  • This film has a lot of symbolism, a sort of Christ story in reverse, but I'll admit that it is certainly not for everyone.

  • The part where she cuts off his penis just idk this movie was fucked up on the highest level

  • started watching it, got to the end of chapter 2 and i was already bored out of my head.. why this is an 18 certificate i'll never know. Massive dissapointment!

  • @iBkMorgan oh so u mist the bit where he gets his bollocks crushed and ejaculates blood and she cuts open her vagina with a pair of scissors?

  • @Pageyindahouse yeah apparently.. :L i think i might have to watch this film again, just nothing seemed to be happening so i got bored and changed channel.. sounds a bit fucked up but worth a shot (Y)

  • @iBkMorgan

    You missed the best bits.

  • @iBkMorgan Obviously not a movie for you... haven't you seen other Von Trier's movie? He know what pace his movies must follow.

  • amore assoluto, disperato e totale ! Due, non più tre, infatti il numero è imperfetto !

  • This is Scott Walker’s music put to celluloid. Brilliant Cinematography. Tactful writing. No line wasted. Surreal and creepy. I’m still not sure if I l think the end was a little gratuitous. The Patti Smith look-alike was an excellent choice

  • The best movie lately!

  • what is the aria at the start of the trailer?

  • @TheCherryBomber1

    Lascia ch'io pianga

  • Watch on youtube the short VIGILANCIA, directed by Gonzalo Zona, included in the Special Edition DVD (Spain) of Lars Von Trier´s ANTICHRIST. It´s awesome!!

  • von trier fucking genious

  • Wow...i cannot believe this film is costing 29.99 on amazon.com by the Criterion Collection...bunch of fucking thieves. I ordered me a copy from UK, and only paid about 11 dollars for it, including taxes. Then again, i have a ALL REGION player. Guys, in order to avoid being robbed by the american market, get imported films. Its worth it. For example, i got DESTRICTED already, and it's not even out here in the USA until October. Go figure.

  • I think Lars Von Triers is a great director be he's very arrogant according to what he kept saying at Cannes. "I'm the greatest director alive today, or at least I think so" He needs to stop making movies about women who suffer, it's getting annoying.

  • Actually I found Dancer In The Dark a quite more disturbing film

  • Charlotte Gainsbourg should have gotten the Oscar for her performance in this movie.

  • This movie sucks, and I'm not just a regular person, I'm a real critical person. I mean the way they filmed the movie was kind of unique and I liked that. But the story is kind of wierd and it's too much sex in it. It was like a horror porno movie. Ofcourse it was a little bit intresting but not worth seeing it. But at the end, everybody have their own taste but then again, I have a good taste ;)

  • I was very impressed by this movie, I think Trier did wonders for the creative reputation of Danish Theater.

  • @ 1:42 , whoa!!! thiz iz xrated dude! ... lol

  • I saw the film some monthes ago: many themes are here worked out, also the fact that everything started when she was preparing her thesis and had to read all about misogenia and church's hostility about woman and love, including physical 'carnal' love. He used strong events and images, as he often does, like in his other beautyful film, 'Festen'.

  • @zaren2010

Festen(Dogma 1),one of my all-time favorite movies, was made by fellow Dane Thomas Vinterberg;not Von Tier.

Von Trier made The Idiots(Dogma 2.)

  • @thirdshift47 Thank you for saying me this: I always thought was made by him. It's an unique incredible film I loved since the first time I saw it.

  • @zaren2010

    No problem man.

  • The picture at 1:55 is scary as hell!!

  • one of the most incredible movie i've ever seen. I was there in Cannes , and believe me the crowd was totally overwhelmed by the film ! This is brilliant, confusing, but brilliant ! And Charlotte is to die for...As usual...

  • @astridaude You were?! Neato! I have been waiting to see this film when it comes out on DVD, dude. Still, I need to look it up if it's out already. Lars Von Trier is amazing! Love THE KINGDOM (which his is TV series he made). Tell me more about the Cannes showing.

  • @tapesan09 Well it was just SICK ! First of all because Charlotte Gainsbourg is the woman of my life ! I've been listening to his father for ever, and to me she is as perfect (maybe more) as Serge was...Anywaaaaaaay ! And also because i adore Lars Von Trier. So i was really excited to go at this premiere. Got to say that lots of people left the theater during the performance, but it's really common in Cannes. At the end of the movie the atmosphere was really weird and very tense.

  • @tapesan09 2/2 : the end of the movie is so hard, and also chocking that a slew of people hated the movie but i do think that we need some time to understand (at least TRY to understand) this movie and appreciate the beauty of it. That's why, i think, so many people were dissapointed. It's mainly because this movie is confusing and confused, that some of us find it bad. But if you REALLY think and try to understand it, it's a master piece.

  • Look at the first link on my channel "Quotes from the Babylonian Talmud". All "Luciferic" worship has it's origin with Metatron's Cube which houses the Kabbalah Sephirot. Jesus didn't call the Sanhedrin a synagouge of Satan without reason. The Palestinians are the biblical Jews. This is admitted openly. Watch my "Does God Exist series". Knowledge is power my friends.

  • @astridaude Sure, that is what some films are like. But I will still see it when it comes out on DVD by Criterion, which I heard about but don't know when will it come out. If you liked ANTICHRIST, try watching von Trier's short-lived TV series, RIGET, which was later remade by Stephen King in America. Are you a huge fan of von Trier? If so, cool. I am a fan of him, too.

  • excuse me,can you help i have seen this movie can anyone explain it to me now? i dont get the connection!!!!!!!!

  • @94donnacone

Personally,I saw it as a film about guilt, but as with most movies of this type of complexity there's a load of different themes and angles. It's certainly made for repeat viewing--perhaps more so than his melodramas.

More generally, though, this movie explores the hostility of nature, through the prism of masculine & feminine stereotypes.

This movie is the perfect compliment to 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf" as descents into conjugal hell go.

  • @thirdshift47 thank you so much for explaining it to me very strange movie anyway, but it was a good one i kind of thought it was something along those lines

  • @94donnacone

    No problem.

It's funny, though, because given the fact that Von Trier is easily my favorite filmmaker I was initially disappointed with Antichrist, inspite all the sensationalism surrounding this movie, because It seemed to lack that punch in the gut that most of his previous movies have.

It's nonetheless a good movie & there are touches that only Von Trier could have thought up(what the female does to the male character's leg would make Kathy Bates character in 'Misery' blush.)lol

  • i think ill have to check out more of his movies, a lot of movies with all the sex is like they are saying if you dont like my movie throw some sex and nude pics. so people will watch it, but it had to be in this movie to help the story line, i could relate to the pain and heart break , i had to bury my son a baby anyway it is a good movie

  • @94donnacone

I'm sorry for your loss;most can't imagine having to bury their own child.I'm sure this flick resonates with you much deeper than many.

As the movie goes, the psychosexual aspect of it is definitley integral to the story it seems, esp.,her increased nymphomania as a way of filling the void of her loss(and, ofcourse, any examination of our darker impulses is bound to include our most taboo characteristic.)

But,yeah, definitely checkout his other flicks if you liked Antiwife.lol

  • @thirdshift47

thank you. maybe you could give me a few titles, also did not want to give you the idea that im a nympho. hahahahahahaha.

  • Complete and utter garbage ! I tried watching this 3 times and still couldnt get to the end, absolute bore fest.

  • whats this movie about?

  • @THEspooger1373 are you asking about the actual plot line or what it represents?

  • @Bulldog22031 both tbh

  • @THEspooger1373 well, have you watched it yet? I only want to explain things after you watch it once. Then I will tell you, and you can watch it again; that is how I did it and the movie had a profound effect on me

  • @Bulldog22031 na i havent watched it yet

  • @THEspooger1373 Watch it first before you hear what it's about... It will most likely enthrall, offend, confuse, and amaze you

  • this movie was a critical and a commercial failure, but i liked it anyway...

  • A beautiful film, much misunderstood, both accidentally and purposefully. If you like this then search youtube for the trailer for 'Where the Dogs Divide Her', an independent surreal horror by Hungercult Films.

  • Just watched this. Its not an easy viewing. Not because of the violence, which I think is being blown out of proportion. Although it would have been a better film without the abuse of genitalia. I found the complete mental breakdown of the woman much more disturbing. You just knew she was going over the edge. Her husbands attempts at "therapy" just made her worse. Bleak and grim from start to finish, but you can`t help watching. 3/5

  • from who is the classic song i realy like it please someone

  • As deranged as this film is I still really like the camera work used.

  • it was disgusting, and I was crying when the man got a woodenblock right on his balls, that's even wors than killing somebody and it was boring

  • Religion,Sex and Violence. This triangle of the Box Office, and here are in intensive doses . It is an industry ,the money is the target .the art of cinema is mostly,if not only ,in independent cinema .

anyhow i liked the song so much ,anyone know it ??

  • @ramiznor

"Lascia ch'io pianga" from Georg Friedrich Händel's opera Rinaldo

  • Religion,Sex and Violence. This triangle of the Box Office, and here are in intensive doses . It is an industry ,the money is the target .the art of cinema is mostly,if not only ,in independent cinema .

anyhow i liked the song so much ,anyone know it ??

  • Religion,Sex and violence .this triangle is the best prescription for the Box Office ,here just with intensive doses.there is nothing here called art ,it is an industry .Cinema art is only in independent Cinema .Mooney is very enough for those producers ,but art is something far away ..

  • @ramiznor i disagree that art can only be found in independent cinema, and i think the way this film is shot and its concept is art.

  • totally against human dignity

  • The thing about this movie is that in Europe, it was one of the best reviewed films of the year, while in the USA it was one of the worst... I'm not the kinda person to stereotype, but this really was too much for the Americans to handle...

  • @KONGRES47 Exactly. This questions many American core values:

    -Light (Progress, Knowledge)

    -Marriage (Happiness)

-Nature as beautiful (see John Wayne's speech on what he loves about America)

    -Good Christian Morals,

-Rational, responsible behaviour (Control and Order).

I believe some American Southerners of old times would have understood this film best out of all Americans.

  • @KONGRES47

i'm a 20 year old, white, male, heterosexual american and i love this movie very much.

  • @TheSilverFlyingCigar congrats then, mate, but what I'm saying is that general audience in america didn't like it...

  • @KONGRES47 I saw it in a theater in the U.S. The reaction was just as it should have been. Laughter. Anyone who finds it necessary to share such a twisted and dark vision of the world we live in (and in such a pretentious fashion) deserves nothing more than the reaction I experienced. And I'm sorry but the film was panned across the board at Cannes--a festival showing films infinitely more disturbing for decades--and where is Cannes? Oh right. France. In Europe.

  • @OneKindTwoMinds french critics didn't pan it, in case you didn't know it was nominated for the palm. trier was depressed when he wrote it so it ought to be dark, but i think any vision of life so beautifully presented should be at least respected.

  • @KONGRES47

I was aware that it nominated for the Palme d'Or, but from the interviews I read at the time it seemed to receive generally negative reviews (specifically regarding the films "Anti-Award". And obviously he was depressed, but at what point can the ejaculation of blood be presented in a "beautiful" fashion? I'm not calling for censorship either--he deserves the right to make this movie--I just don't see the cultural significance in sharing this dreary post-modern pile of anxiety.

  • @OneKindTwoMinds not every good film is supposed to be culturally significant. the ejaculation of blood isn't what's presented, it's used to present something else, and that's the main problem with people who hated the film: they didn't get it. that doesn't make them stupid, they just didn't want to get it. however even the people who didn't like it can't deny the strength of the performances or the beauty of the cinematography, which make this film beautiful be it your cup of tea or not.

  • @KONGRES47 totally agree with you. I guess you could say it's an "art film". Yes there are gruesome scenes in it but what stuck in my mind was the suffering the couple that they went through after they lost their child. I felt more depressed/saddened rather than grossed out cause I found it a tragic story.

  • @KONGRES47 fervently disagree. Whatever the ejaculation of blood or the severing of the clitoris means to the author of the film, it has a variety of meanings to be interpreted by the audience. My interpretation was mainly disgust, but there was the idle speculation as to just what the author intended to convey OTHER than disgust to his audience. The answer the author might tell you and the underlying answer being two different things. This movie is a stain and should never have been created.

  • I will admit I am used to modern films, I much prefer them. I'm not a big fan of pretentious art, I found this film really dull and ultimately pointless..

  • pang8

  • This movie made Tarantino look like shit.. And for those who didn't like. Maybe you didn't understand it, or your just dumb as fuck, or you only like mainstream movies like SAW and Hannah Montana.. This is not just a movie its art! Search this movie in google and read some reviews, and then you maybe will understand why Lars Von Trier made this movie..

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

DANGER JESUS IS THE ANTICHRIST! google djice9

  • film was shit,, fucked up and a bag of bollacks. the dude who thought this shit up, is fuckd up. that spunkin blood up after gettin hit with the log, ad me holdin ma corey for fuckin ages. dude dont make anymore films.

  • Anyone who thinks this is a "porno" has clearly NEVER seen an actual porno.

  • This movie is one of the most beautiful and fantastic movies of all time!

I highly doubt that it's porno. You have to understand what's underneath everything, the moral.

    Bravo, Lars Von Trier!

  • nasty movie. i could not finish it.

  • this movie has a awful underlying mood.

It scared me more in the hours after watching it than during the screening.

    Typical in your face Lars.

  • Even if I didn't like everything in this film I must say that some sequences are simply amazing Porno or not? Who cares, I think that there's a lot more to speak about. In my opinion this film is about feeling guilty and hopeless (I am not religious but as a catholic-educated person I think this is basically the meaning of the word Antichrist). And yes, this film includes very explicit sex scenes. So what? I can't understand why people have problems with sex.

  • i don't get why everyone thumbed down "it's a porno." the first two minute shows a guy going in and out of the chick in a baby's bedroom (WITH THE BABY IN THE ROOM). this is truly one of those "striving-to-be-artsy" movies, but is just truly truly fucked up.

  • I quite dislike movies about entities ... they scare me!

  • Fun for the whole family!

  • @taxmonkey123 LOL

  • @taxmonkey123 lmao

  • @taxmonkey123 LMAO.

  • @taxmonkey123 hahahahahah

  • 1:47 im just like...ok. thats just creepy

  • Has really nothing to do with the Antichrist just a really fucked up and disturbing movie.

  • Yeah, im 14 and watched it last night too....which is ironcly strange...so porno.

  • watch it again in 5 years, and tell us again if it's porno or not

  • great movie

  • I love Dafoe, he actually fucked her in the end.

  • this is pretty cool- the lady in here was born in england but raised mostly in france, and is fluent in both!she could be in both french and english movies

  • Oh, nice, a cabin in the middle of nowhere. I know how this movie ends! xD

  • no, you dont how this movie ends...fucking ignorant piece of swine

  • @Jiclejicle0 First, yes, I know how this movie ends I saw last night and second you don't know for sure Zoeys quotes. Well, you don't know who is Zoey? So you fucking ignorant pice of crap with no respect for anyone: Google it!

  • Lars fon Trier in the film has shown not only opposition man's and a feminine, but also opposition in any field of activity of mankind. Your abuse with each other is a way to antichrist too. Anything except a pain, grief and consequently also hatred, it will not result. We look a film, and we do besides errors and we become further from god. Simply because we people.

  • great movie

  • Excelent trailer and really stupid out-of-place comments.

  • Stupid out of place comments...errmmmm when you leave a comment relevant to the movie and someone attacks you personally for no reason you are going to defend yourself...maybe you should put your brain into gear.....

  • Mellow out dude, my point is that the comments have nothing to do with the fuckin' trailer.

I agree with you, you gotta defend yourself...the stupid is the one who started this shit...

  • this is disgusting

  • Overreacting

  • I find it so funny, seeing all these comments about 'how great america is and how it's better than England', and vise versa. Why can't we all get along?...

  • Haha Shell, I think it's pretty ironic and American is telling an English person what is and isn't a word in the English language. When your dumbass country find time to speak their own language instead of stealing someone elses, then you can comment.

  • First off, it's "an American" not "and American". Apparently you've been getting English lessons by Shelljell28. And stealing? Are you fucking serious? Do you know how America was founded? YOUR disgusting inbred ancestors came here and founded the first 13 colonies. THEY brought a hack job of a language here and as America grew, we improved it. A dumb-ass country? How so? Is it because, in only 233 years WE have risen to be the worlds sole super power?
