  • it sounds like a different version of a masons apron

  • Holy crap think i need to go & practice a whole lot more Gordon is a piper in a league of his own i could listen to & watch this guy all day every day

  • That is truly awesome big man. Well done.

  • I guess he´s got gunpowder in his thumb..!

  • Who the hell can even click on the dislike button on something as amazing of this. I'm beginning to think that the jealous and talentless brigade's favorite instrument is fretting the dislike button! Now that feller playing there is a genius!

  • I can watch this over and over and over... and over... and never cease to be amazed. Simply stellar. Best bagpipe music earworm I've ever had.

  • Unbelievable piping! I've seen Stuart Liddell and a few other people do a similar version of Mason's Apron but Gordon's piping is just off the planet! Wonderful! Thank you for posting!

  • Undoubtedly, the best performance of Masons Apron I've ever heard.

  • The John D. Burgess of this generation. Great bloke too!

  • more piping mor Piobaireachd too please your knowledge and playing thank you.

  • Gordon trained with me at Bridge of Don barracks Aberdeen 1985. Even then he was destined for better things. Amazing talent.

  • Great Scot (as the expression goes!) What a performance. I can not fot the life of me remember ever being tought the bottom hand movement from 2:00-3:00 but it really shows how a great master can improvise and get away with it. Awesome!! /Cabby

  • There really is No-ONE to better Gordon these days! Magic!

  • I like the hand sweepy thing ... but I think I will stick to thumb sweepies for now...

  • @Rojellio I've never seen that movement before.

  • Hero. I play as a 'good' amateur and GD is my God.

  • I saw Cpl Gordon Walker at the Dan Reid Memorial in San Francisco and when he played "Crossing the Minch" at break neck speed, there were many in the crowd that wanted to burn their pipes. :-) He even turned to the judges' table that he played for earlier in the day when he did the slurred D throws (I think that it was on "Black Bear" which everyone got a laugh out of.

  • O.o

  • John Gallacher from Toronto loves this!

  • Is he wearing the Robertson Red Modern Tartan?

  • @grayhog2012 nae laddie he is wearing a pipers tartan

  • @grayhog2012 - It certainly looks like a Robertson Modern Tartan - every time I have seen him play he wears a different tartan - but of course he is always immaculate. Loved the comment "Nae Laddie its a Piper tartan" - Ha Ha there really are some Dickheads on here, eh ?

  • Perfection !

  • Unreal... total brilliance.

  • does anyone know what this tune is called? i fancy learning it!!!!! i wish! what a legend!

  • neiljohn134, the tune is the "Mason's Apron" and can be played as a reel or as a hornpipe. It can be found as a reel in the Scots Guards book 1 page 205, and in the Seaforth Highlanders page 58. As a hornpipe it can be found in the Queens Own Highlanders Caber Feidh Collection on page 209. Maybe you can e-mail Gordon for his setting as genius like his can not be found in any book and will take you years, if ever, to emulate. Good luck with learning it.

  • THIS ladies and gentlemen, is WHY gordon walker WON the glenfiddich!

he's one of the VERY FEW pipers that i actualy respect!

  • New York. lol is your band going

  • Anyone know what make of pipes hes playing? I'm 90% sure they"re nails.

  • LSBSPB. They are a set of Naills DN6. I'm not sure of the chanter though. Whatever it is Gordon makes it sing. I'm guessing its a Naill solo.

  • he's had them since he was 13 they've been passed down through friends and family. They have been in the 1st and 2nd World War, Bosnia and the Gulf. I know, he's my teacher and i've played them ;)

  • awesome.. i thought they were naills

  • The pipes that Gordon is playing in this video are a set of Naill DN6 made by Leslie Cowell who set up Naill bagpipes in 1976.They could not have been played in the first or second world wars. Another set could have been by Henry Starck around 1880 until the business closed in 1962. Leslie Cowell worked for Starck between 1946 to 1955 and carried on the style until the present day. I have no doubt that Gordon owns more than 1 set and they are the set that you played not these ones.

  • they are trust me he's my teacher and always goes on about them.

  • Wow! I'm speechless.

  • Absolutely stunning. I was lucky enough to see him play this piece last week, outside in the beautiful evening sunshine in Kilmacolm-it was electrifying.

  • Gordon Walker for prime minister Wae hae!

  • Haha DEFS!!!

  • Tis why he is Pipe Major Gordon! Wae hae!

  • Unfortunately the army moves in mysterious ways (or in plain English its own worst enemy). The publicity and promotion the army would get from 6 Scots Pipe Band and Gordon would be terrific. We filmed Gordon and 6 Scots for a dvd called Highland Laddie: the story of the Scottish Soldier, with Isla St Clair in 2007. It was the last time they paraded (although we didn't know that at the time). Its a great shame they all fell out.

    Regards pipersplay

  • @pipersplay .

    You are quite right. Greetings

  • Gordon Walker is a fantastic talent and its a pity that 6SCOTS P&D's which he was erstwhile Pipe Major has been on an indefinate hiatus since 2007. Does anyone know if there are any proposals reach an amicable compromise between the Military/Ceremonial commitments faced by TA pipers and reform the 52nd Lowland (6 Scots) Pipes and Drums in the forseeable future?

  • dose he have a CD out ? or DVD or sumthing lol

  • Gaun yersel Gordon
