Hi, I had a Dell C640, at an ambient temp. of 25 Centigrade: without cooler HDD=58-60, CPU=55-70. with cooler HDD=53-55, CPU=55-65. It made a huge difference to the HDD. Also the whole system was cooler. nfortunatley I had no motherboard temp. sensor. The cooler is 9 mm thik so you have to have 2 PCMCIA ports on top of each other.
Evercool makes a kind of pcmcia cooler. Do a search on the internet with the word "evercool" and chek out the results. The cooler in the video is homemade, and there is only one. Hope you'll find what you're looking for . Cheers
Seriously. Windows Advanced Power Management cuts power to PCMCIA devices which do not communicate with the operating system or do not respond to any requests made by the operating system.
PCMCIA slots are still used in notebooks. Some of them does not have any fan at all.
Here is how you do it: VS1(pin 43)=grounded. VS2(pin 52)=unconnected. CD1 and CD2 (36 and 67 the card detect pins)=grounded. In this combination you'll get 3.3 V from the PCMCIA slot. I tried to stop the IRQ for the PCMCIA from the registry and got it to work about 70 % of the times I connect the cooler, I guess the other 30 % it is being stopped by the Power Management system as you said. Cheers
Hi, any idea about the amount temperature degrees (aprox.) that this kind of device will help colling the laptop? Thanks in advance.
