So whats her status, How is she? I want the best to challenge in London, makes for great tv, and she is one of the greats, so I wanna see her there challenging.
@Davylp She's recovered from her injury, she recently competed at the Voronin Cup and got 6th AA and 2nd on UB, that's really good considering she's barely began full training! And I want her to win in London too :)
Anyone else notice that she takes this injury with so much more grace and strength than Bross takes hers is the Visas? Bross is screaming and Aliya salutes and sits down and keeps quiet. And to add to that Aliyas injury was much more serious.
@emilyrosemonster I know Aliya's injury is much more serious than Bross' but which one is more painful? I don't know but when Shawn injured her knee she didn't went to see a doctor for days and it was serious, it just didn't hurt much. So, I don't know if more serious means more painful :/
i think is soo weird that her and rebecca bross 2 of the greatest gymnasts in the world at the time both hurt there knees vaulting .. 2012 should be interesting!
Just because some of you people don't like Nastia's dismount doesn't change the difficulty of it. It's not your job to judge that. Nastia didnt have the best form but Aliya's is far worse. as for Jordyn she may not have been USAs first or second choice but she obviously deserved and was meant to be there. Everyone needs to get over their own opinions because gymnastics isn't a sport of opinions. While these athletes you are all bashing on are out there making their dreams come true, you are sit
@emilydowner She was only there because USAG bent the rules which were shoddy in the first place, Nikki Hibbert has to be reading all of this Ameritrash and thinking if she didn't pull out then USAG wouldn't have subbed in Wieber to start all these American biased stories and if Khorokordin didn't get injured then Dalton wouldn't have been subbed in, but no one cares about the men. As far as 99% of Earth is concerned the American Cup isn't worth talking about but Americans keep bringing it up.
Mustafina has the tricks, but not the TECHNIQUE. Like a lot of other Russians, she is sloppy on vault (and a few other areas) and has trouble completing rotations all the way round. It was only a matter of time before she or one of her teammates incurred serious injury.
@DakotaJane1994 Her foot was turned inward when she landed and that caused her entire leg to be faced sideways instead of forward. It's almost like trying to complete the rotation while on the ground. Which would have torn some ligaments in her knee.
I actually respect her for doing harder routines. It tells me she's the type of person that is a go hard or go home. that sends a lot of respect because she doesn't want to simplify her routine to win, she wants to go all out and win the way she wanted to. And let's not diss Aliya on the video of her injury, we should be more concerned on whether she's ok rather than use this chance to say what a terrible gymnast she is, when really she's amazing, just has form issues.
I can't believe the comments below saying don't like her cause she's too greedy and trying to do difficult elements. Come on people, she worked so hard in gym, of course she will try to do difficult stuff in competition.
Lol, the commentator cracks me up.. Aaahhh yeee! Btw, if she'd torn another ligament, probably would have been Media collateral with that landing, not lateral collateral. Oh well.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD To be honest I think Mustafina is a pretty great champion. She has form issues but so did Nastia, she has issues with her amanar but so did Shawn. Mustafina is such a solid competitor, with no weak event, making all event finals is no joke and despite nbc reports, of diva behaviour she is very friendly towards her competitors. I'm excited for Shawn's attempted comeback and I hope Nastia gets it together but I think Mustafina is a real champion too.
@mishmash151 She's NO WHERE as good though. She has bad form on the vault and I don't like her personality at all. Think about it she's not as good as Shawn or Nastia on any event. And she's not exactly friend considering in the American Cup she said Jordyn Wieber didn't deserve to be there AND during vault finals when Alicia won the gold she complained to the judges. She even criticized her own teammates. I don't really consider that friendly. And what form issues did Nastia have? :)
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD I don't think she is necessarily better than them on specific events, I mean that she is a more complete AA gymnast than they are. Her coaches did complain about Wieber being there, but after the competition she said she was happy with second place. The vault issue was over the COP. Technically it said that is that vault couldn't be downgraded, it's clearer now. I think her personality doesn't show because she is focused. Nastia had crossed legs and a crappy UB dismount :/
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD nastia had cowboyed front saults ugly bars and a bad beam dismount. aliya is much better than shawn on bars and equal on beam and vault
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD Please tell me you are joking. I love both gymnastics, but Nastia although a great dancer, has terrible form. Every giant she does she bends her legs. On her invert giants her legs come apart. Her double front on both bars and floor. And every twisting element she does (with the exception of Vault)
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD I LOVED shawn johnson and still do, she was amazing. and nastia was great. but Mustafina is undoubtedly stronger all around, she is amazing on EVERY apparatus and neither shawn nor nastia was that. She also combines power and elegance and nastia and shawn sort of had those two qualities split down the middle, one each. shawn is one of my favourite gymnasts of all time, although i didn't like Nastia quite as much. but Aliya has a special art in her gymnastics that shawn didn't
@goose2630 Thank you! Her gymnastics is GOOD, but it's not perfect. She is a good gymnast don't get me wrong, I just don't like her attitude. Her attitude is what cost her the American Cup. I do hope she can comback for 2012 though.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD She's better than them both on vault. Better than Liukin on bars. Better than Johnson on beam. And not as good as Johnson on floor. She's better.
Mustafina said Wieber deserved the American Cup win. She also never complained about the judges at all, but rather her coach did. You seriously need to stop blindly trusting NBC.
Nastia had numerous form issues. It doesn't exactly take a knowledgeable eye to see where they were.
@FlicTuckFull Her coach is really rude. Mustafina has grown on me at the time I didn't like her AT ALL. Yes Nastia had form issues, but not enough to take away the gold all-around champion medal.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD Her coach is not rude. The American Cup meet was for the top 8 AA gymnasts from 2010 Worlds. If someone couldn't make it, their spot was replaced by the 9th AAer. Therefore, Wieber shouldn't have been there.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD Honey, she didn't deserve to be there because of rules! That's like saying that He Kexin didn't deserve to be in Beijing because of being underaged but she won bars! By the way, that is my opinion on He. Wieber wasn't at Worlds because she was too young. Instead of Wieber, one of the other girls on the 2010 World team was supposed to compete at the American Cup. And why else did Wieber win... Because the judges overscored her tremendously. Musty's better than Liukin ever was.
@BoraBoraGirl2001 Musty will peak for London. I just read an article about that and Aleksandrov's plan to have her peak then. I loved Dobre (one of my all-time favorites).
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD Actually Jordyn Wieber was not originally supposed to be in the American Cup competition because there is meant to be a limit per country. I think she took Rebecca Bross' place who had to pull out because of ankle surgery. Mustafina may not have a personality or character that you like, but she is an excellent gymnast. Her vault difficulty level is a whole 1.3 points in start value more than Nastia's was at the Olympics. Nastia had similar form to Aliya - crossed legs.
@brunettekoala Jordyn Wieber took a non-American gymnast's place, Aly Raisman should have been the only one there but there was a wierd rule change and it was unclear whether the rule change came before Jordyn was announced as a competitor or not.
@ParanoidAndroidDA I know she was an alternate before hand. It's weird, because there have been plenty of American Cups with more than one American competitor at them. Oh well. You can't change it now.
Mustafina never said ANY of that - her coach did. Actually, on the contrary, Mustafina said Wieber DESERVED to win The American Cup.
Nastia has numerous form issues on UB and FX. Mustafina, although she may have her form issues, is a much more naturally talented gymnast than Nastia or Shawn. Actually, she is on the best AA gymnasts in recent years; although Komova may take that from her if she is able to get back to old strength.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD I think you should respect Mustafina. She qualified to every event final last WC, something that hasn't been done since the great Svetlana Khorkina in '97. Nastia and Shawn were great but they didn't invent gymnastics like you seem to be suggesting. They weren't perfect. Shawn sometimes couldn't hit a 180 split on beam (a basic skill) and Nastia cowboyed all her double fronts (UB+FX), as well as being notorious for crossed legs... I get the feeling you're a product of NBC.
@bernardmvella Ha! No hun I'm not a product of NBC that's just my opinion on her. I've come to respect her a lot more than I did when she first came out, but I still think she's slightly overrated. Again just MY OPINION.
@bernardmvella Oh my, how could we forget?? Mustafina is made of pure gold and never, EVER loses form or makes a mistake. In fact, she poops gold medals. Get over it.
I believe this was karma. I think she's very rude and I have no respect for her. I mean the American Cup this year is a PERFECT example sayin Jordan Wieber and Alex Raisman didn't deserve to be there. FYI Jordan beat her.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD What a horrible thing to say about any ACL injury to any competitor. In addition, Aliya never said Jordyn "didn't deserve to be at the AC", all you know is that Tim Daggett SAID her coach said that. And when did anyone say anything about Alexandra Raisman? This "diva" thing is completely a figment of NBC's imagination. She said after the competition that she was happy with silver-she fell so she didn't feel she deserved gold.
@CliqueGirlzFanAPD I noticed earlier you stated unilaterally that Mustafina is worse than Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson on every event. Clearly you're irrational, so there's no point in me saying this, but I kind of feel obligated to. Aliya is better than Shawn Johnson could ever hope to be on uneven bars. She is also better than Nastia Liukin on vault (in terms of sheer ability).
Whoops. Yes, she's talented, but too greedy when it comes to how many more points she feels she needs above the second place competitor. This is the result. If she had just done a DTY, she probably still would have won.
@Sublue I agree with you, she's way too greedy when it comes to winning. I used to like her, but then after watching the American Cup this year I lost respect for her b/c how she acted there especially when it came to the floor exercise when she could have won there if she had done an easier routine. I'm happy she fell then though b/c I like Jordyn better and wanted her to win the entire time. But still I lost respect for Aliya because of how she acted then. I do hope she gets better though.
@xoxPatriots83ily Why as a gymnast would you want to do "an easier routine?" There is no joy in winning if you don't challenge yourself while doing it.
@askitz92 Because she didn't need to do it to win. It's like football, if the game doesn't matter when it comes to playoffs then they rest their starters so they don't get hurt b4 playoffs and they'll still go to playoffs whether they win or loose the game. It's the same with Aliya, if she had simplified her routine like her coach told her to she would have won. The thing that really bothers me is that she didn't listen to her coach. I'm happy she didn't though because I wanted Jordyn to win.
i really dont like her, but i hope she comes back and doesn't rush her recovery. she should take some pointers from nastia who battled an ankle injury for like 2 years and paced herself.
