  • LOVE LOVE

  • Comment removed

  • It's called a costume. Performers frequently wear costumes.

  • And the meaning is....

  • because he's david fucking byrne

  • bass is awsome

  • drop me in the water!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeeee doggy this is greater then when uncle mill did his first push up

  • What movie?

  • "Stop Making Sense" directed by Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs).

One of the greatest concert films ever made.

  • The Greatest

  • Thank you! Will look for it.

  • hahah them damn PANTS!!! LOL

  • RISD rocks. So many talented people.

  • Al Green is probably younger than me.

  • The best version would you agree?

  • Well, I really enjoyed this. Love the Talking Heads, enjoyed this version, and I think the sound is really good. Thanks!

  • Yah, I totally agree...loved this song in highschool, trying to do a version on piano. I'll have to dig through my tapes instead

  • I don't think it's schmaltzy at all. The Talking Heads sound as authentic as anyone ever has with this performance. I think the arrangement fits the exuberant and kinetic atmosphere of the tour quite well. Also, the backup singers are not only fun to look at, but they give the song a sense of time and place. It makes the song feel magical and at the same time ephemeral. I wish I could have been there.

  • agreed

  • well said

  • cool video, thanks for sharing it.

  • u welcome

  • still hap'nin

  • This concert film (Stop Making Sense) is arguably Bryne and TH at their absolute peak in performance, art, creativeness and creativity. And this is a smoking performance, Bryne Completely In His Element -- on a cover, no less.

Kids, look and learn - art simply doesnt get any better.

  • Good thoughts, but work on not being a total pretentious snob...

  • fun ? you must be joking, a whole generation got this band in its veins. Even Belgians, don't ask me why, it must be the power of art right. Amis may not like the begy or vice versa, I do ... Saw this band often in B, I'm 50 now, you David ? In 10-20 years, I'm sure it'll be the same, hope youtube is still there, you said something about 'fun', please, give me back the eighties, my friends, all of it

  • That was real fun wasn't it?

Everybody gettin' together for a good time and a great tune.

  • Oh Yeah....Fantastic...Love it...Grrrroooovyyy...

  • Do you think marilyn manson has this much fun with music? Somehow I doubt it. This is cool.

  • i just love how he moves!!!

Lets reach a million! Everyone needs to hear this song!

  • Has no one heard Little Feat's version? Byrne has more in common with Lowell George than Al Green (IMHO).

    Great cover!

  • i like Al Green's original but definitely LOVE this cover - and especially this live version. It's a pure motherfuckin FUNK

  • hell yes

  • You can never have too much cowbell...lol

  • sing it, baby!!!!!! yeah!!!!!!!

  • an alright cover of al green,i like both verisons.

  • And now more people are commenting on his ridiculously oversized pants. Objective complete. :)

  • Byrne didnt wear the pants to be fashionable he wore them to be compeling in a minamalist way notice how bare the heads sets usually are?

  • the pants are awesome. byrne makes them awesome.

  • Big suit!

  • One of the best....

  • I am just going down for the count. Is this going to be a long story or? My sons gave me this cd back in the day, mother's day and I played it and amped it up big time. My "mom" called the cops for loud music and when they appeared I had to say I was just listening to the TH's.

  • Can't do any better than this.

  • This is brilliant. Brings back loads of memories. Now we know who Simon Cowell gets his fashion tips off, lol!

  • i reckon he's pioneering clothes that dont fit, not a day goes by when i dont see some tosspot wearing pants below their buttocks

  • I'm surprised that more people aren't commenting on his ridiculously oversized pants.

  • hahaha

  • I do hope you're not really being super serious and caring too much about the outfit.

So what if he's wearing oversized pants? It's silly. it's just something he does to be funny, he's a funny guy and he's done stuff like that in his music videos too... Do you seriously care more about fashion (or supposed lack thereof) than the music?!

  • My comment was expressing surprise that more PEOPLE weren't making retarded comments about his outfit - I was not criticizing his outfit itself (which, by the way, I find quite entertaining, especially how goofy it makes him look when he does his nerdy white man dance).

  • In the first 26 seconds .. there's a lot of Doors influence there. Got the same beat and riffs of Peace Frog: (Peace Frog Remix) Check it out.

    Very interesting! Interesting Indeed.

  • Musical mayhem at its best!

  • Yeah, Baby!

    Let's rock!

    He is the coolest -!!

  • This is Excellent. None Like it Man, None Like it!

  • THE BEST LOGICAL SONG TALKING HEADS QUE C'EST BON TOUT CA KOKO RIEN A RAJOUTER JUSTE A DEGUSTER !! sublime!!

  • Still like Al Greens version more but this is still good. and why wouldn't it be its the Talking Heads.

  • Talking Heads were the freakin' bee's knees.

  • he does deserve it, lets get this to million people!!!!!

  • great, love it! sounds so cool!

  • check out the Staples Singers cover

    Rocking!

  • DB: Tina Waymouth

    People: ooooouuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh

  • Like this?... You may like A Band Called Bert

  • it's a little known fact that the Red Hat software company is named after this video

  • Damn... when Tina shakes her hips I get hard :)

  • When exactly does she do that???????

  • 6:58... it ain't much, but it doesn't take alot :)

  • it's go time when the cowbell comes out.

  • Awesome :)

  • Mad mad mad

When he takes off that suit jacket it really stats to heat up!!

  • first heard this song last year when i was fourteen and no joke, i actually love this band, blows high school musical ou t of the water.

    x

  • I want That Suit... It's soo cool

  • So good

  • One of my favorite memories....seeing this film over and over at the Palo Alto cinema and dancing in front of the screen for the entire thing.....turning around and noticing that about 200 people had joined me.

  • Tina Weymouth and the background singers are all gorgeous and also incredibly well dressed. Those are not typical 'rock and roll' outfits.

  • Original song is by Al Green , he wrote it

  • NOT BAD, NOT BAD AT ALL! NICE PANTS! LOL

  • Tina Weymouth is a babe

  • Hell yeah :)

  • Those are strange looking pants He is wearing LOL.,This is a great performance

  • Such a great song and performance

    I love to stay

Take me to the river, drop me in the water

Take me to the river, dip me in the water

Washing me down, washing me down

    .

  • Don't miss the whole movie. J. Demme. The best Live music movie I've never seen!!!!

  • How can you know if you've never seen it..? strange..

  • 6:55 hahaha

  • I will always love the studio version of this song. It affected my emotions when it was newly released.

And this movie, which I saw in a theater when it was newly released, with an audience who'd won tickets from a radio station, is mucho excellent as well. This version of "Take Me To The River" is lovable, just like the original one that they recorded.

  • 4:26 I have a disease, and the only cure... is more cowbell.

  • This is one of my favorite live performances of anything ever. The band is so fucking funky. Byrne is so fucking incredible.

  • I cannae imagine Mr. Byrne doing anything in private.

  • 6:43 Epic

Didn't even know Bryne could do that

  • Greatest Rock film ever....buy it if you haven' t

  • wtf he is singing like he is on a kilo of coke...

    whats with all the slurring

  • Comment removed

  • brilliant concert footage!

    L:D

  • The greatest album ever gets 8/10? You must be a Russian judge.

  • So did the Rev Al Green ever cover a Talking Heads song? That would be wild!

  • I love their songs and goofy antics, but never realized what a sweet, sweet voice David Byrne actually has!

  • one of the greatest grooves ever and bass lines!

  • No one has heard EVERY SINGLE ALBUM ever made (or at least very few people >.>) Maybe he means it's the best album he has heard so far and gave it an 8/10 because all the other ones he's heard are complete shit :P

I'd give it a ten, but that's me.

  • Hey whats up with the main singers waist/pants, he looks kinda wierd

but a great song any ways

  • i cant believe bernie worrel is with them. incredible!

  • ARTAUD

  • Very well done, i have the 'stop making sense album- its the greatest album ever--i rate it 8/10

  • If it's the greatest album ever then why does it get an 8? Shouldn't it get a 10?

  • You rated the greatest album ever as an 8?

  • "Very well done, i have the 'stop making sense album- its the greatest album ever--i rate it 8/10"

Damn. You have tough standards! You've never heard better than an 8/10?

  • wouldnt the best album ever be the 10/10?

  • Wow, just wow. There's something about this that makes me want to dance, and like all good music, makes you forget any problems you have. :)

  • Love this song. Makes me want to jump and dance. I remember when this came out I thought they were so weirdly great........

  • probly cus theres only one.

  • All them cowbell guys look the same...

  • I am wondering... doesn't the cowbell guy look a lot like Lionel Richie? Is it him?

  • Steve Skales...I'm not sure how to spell his last name actually.

    but funny comment ; )

  • Love this band.. best concert I ever saw.. was lucky enough to see them on this tour.

  • Lucky. I'd consider chopping off one of my ligaments to see them.

No, wait - that was a lie. But I do like them.

    :D

  • this is one of the best bands of all time fu$k those back yp singers

  • Wow they are braless and gorgeous.

  • what would this band be without the black back up singers

  • Not much different than white back up singers

  • I think they add so much more than the LP versions of the songs here, they were 2 of the 3 "Brides of Funkenstein" group that P-Funk had in the 70s" They should have made them full time members of the group IMO.

  • FECKING absouloutely different class, you dont get anything near this in this day in age.Anyone agree?

  • dude i completely agree im only 13 and i hate this generation's music i love this band

  • Radiohead!!! They even named themselves after a Talking Heads song.

Some of Jonny Greenwood licks remind me of Talking Heads, like the solo in "Go to Sleep" at the end (see Jools) sounds like the solo in "The Great Curve" (probably my favorite TH song ..)

  • whats with the big pants?

  • it is just sposed to be funny i have this dvd

  • he succeded :)

  • i know! hahaha! he loves it! hahaha! btw, i think u got some thumbs down coz ppl think u used the n word negatively. i upped it once though! ;)

  • Musical god full stop.

  • Thats that girl that does the voice for 19/2000 something like that on that one gorillaz song...GET THE COOL SHOE SHINE!

  • that song is terrificly orgasmic

  • Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tina seems a little shy when they introduce her

    how cute

  • Yes, Tina Weymouth is a phenomenal bass player, and she was looking good in this video. However, the two black, braless backup singers are smokin' hot.

Regarding David Byrne's clothes, he was working the super-geek look.

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • i like this song but why are his pants so big

  • how many times do they say "take me to the river"

  • 48 times they sang "take me to the river, drop me in the water". and ya i actually counted lol
