Hello I'm the one that just bought your yamaha n12 which looks awesome and im very happy thanks. I'm just having trouble setting it up. I'm running Cubase 5 on my laptop which is an hp pavilion entertainment pc dv7 vista 64 bit. I've downloaded the new fw drivers and there extensions, and tried the n updater and the IEEE 1394 firmware updater but for some reason I keep getting errors with those ones the n updater says data failure and the IEEE says could not open folder I've read a million for
@tibatfree Hi you can set a studio up for very little and still get good sound, the basics would be a small recorder, a controller keyboard and some VSTis, there are some great free ones out there to try, I have a new channel that goes into all this stuff. head on over and take a look, it may be helpful.
Is that acoustic foam on your walls? As far as i'm led to believe, acoustic foam is pretty much hyped up and doesn't do a lot to improve the sound of your room. Rockwool panels and bass traps would be far more effective. Apart from that, nice studio. Think i spotted the n12 there, i've just invested in one of those.
nothing worth wasting $100 on. Although if you splurged a wee bit more, you could get a set of KRK Rokit 8 G2's with 8" subs for $250, or even the M-Audio equivalent, which is around the same price. Totally worth it, and if you are serious about doing DnB productions, you will not want to settle for anything smaller than an 8" sub. Your mixes will thank you in the long run.
Those i would suggest in terms of iive sound, being that they focus more on flat frequency responses over the other ones in there price category. However you need to listen for yourself. Hope this helps.
not bad man, personally i would aim for either the Yamaha's or the Mackies but it's your personal preferance.. Ask the salesman to let you listen and for the frequency response of each monitor. Or google each monitor followed by "frequency graph" the flatter the better. Good luck!
Ok, I will listen to them. On another forum they say this: "Both are great, both have strong points. Mackies sound better down low, Yamahas are great for mid but cant hit hard low like the mackies. It depends on the kinda music you make. For DnB i would go with the mackies, for anything that requires vocals, mids or highs, go with Yamaha."
BTW @playsomeboards: sorry for using this thread for this discussion ;)
I got the Yamaha HS 80M, and they are really great. There's enough bass sound, I'd rather say that the Mackies and KRK's have too much bass. Very happy with the Yammi's! :-)
1 Yamaha HS50m runs about 199 per speaker 5inch woofer (great reviews) Their is a HS80m version but it's more expensive.(bigger woofer)
2 Mackie MR8s are affordable and accredited by many as well or the smaller MR5
3 Adam a5's are very very good, ribbon tweeter, 5 inch woofer so you may need a sub, but very accurate. THey run for about 800 a pair but you can get lucky on E-bay.
4 JBL LSR6325P, 5 inch woofer thx pm3 approved(Totally pro) pricey, but ebay it.
Hey , have you tried to record 12 tracks simultaneously with the N12, and how is the mixing on that machine after you have recorded? can you use it as a mixing ,and manipulate the eq and dynamics?
Studio is tight. I have the Motif XS and Im waiting for the delivey of my Yamaha N12 :) at the moment!!
My favourite bit of kit is my MPC2500. Im loving that shit!!!..
Im sure I have seen pics of this studio somewhere else, are you a member of Gearslutz... ?
Anyway, looks excellent mate, all the best and get some songs up here, I would love to hear some demo's of your gear and what you have got out of it. All the best
What the hell? Just at the point when I was like"this is awsome" it stopped.

Definitely a good point. Both are good, you can always add a sub later if needed.

what type of music you looking to do, and how much you willing to spend?
Gtrplyr1 2 years ago
all kinds of music. I used it for pop, funk, soul, but also classical and filmmusic. I think about 500 euros/dollars (for a pair)
