  • @Picathartes92 actually that is Vocal Spectrum, all four of them.

  • This is wonderful. It's amazing that I can understand every word with so many voices. What a wonderful group to be singing in and competing.

  • The guys who do the full octave higher than the score in from of the screen...aren't two of them from vocal spectrum?

  • what language r they singing this in?o.o

  • @MaraMuffinz English.

  • notice in one part they zoomed in on the only black guy there

  • Found this video over a year ago and I listen to it whenever I wish something to relax to. Wish I would have been there in person to see and hear them.

  • Gimmicky, but they don't sound that good.

  • @ricarleite you, my friend, need to have your ears checked.

  • @ricarleite You must be a resident of Heaven to have standards so high.

  • Opp nvm that was for another vid haha blah musicman

  • @snarbush This represents performance at the upper echelon of the Barbershop artform. This is what being the "Best in the World" is all about. By all means, sing your heart out in a "static" chorus and sing beautiful music and above all enjoy yourself. Just leave these world-beating spectacles to the best singers and performers in the Barbershop world!!

  • Mind blown

  • oompaloompas

  • SIMPLY BREATH STUNNING!!! BRAVO CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!

  • This is absoulutley incredible!!!!!

  • I would call this Vocal DCI... Lol

  • Why is all choruses have to distract their great sound with all that movement? These guys sound great but i can't stand all the commotion. I finally quit the chorus i was in because i wasn't able just sing which is what i love. We always had to do some kind of moving around. And no it's not boring to just see a static chorus.

  • @snarbush same feeling here. we, as audience, also would miss more important part of chorus art.

  • 59 people don't know what real music is...

    This was INCREDIBLE!!!

  • When I'm feeling like crap and mad at the world, I remember how incredibly lucky I was to be singing and performing on the front row of this chorus, on that day in Anaheim. It was surreal. A culmination of 30 years in this amazing hobby that is barbershop. Suddenly, things don't seem so bad. And to my AOH brothers...I miss you and wish you the best of luck in Portland. Oh, what a day...indeed!

  • @johnsontodd When I feel like crap and mad at the world I watch this video again. My Favorite thing on youtube and what got me started barbershopping. Wish I had found this sooner. CS

  • THAT WAS SO AWESOME I LOVED IT

  • OMGosh I love this one!!

  • LOVED IT!!! Spectacular performance.

  • @jenandlaw have you ever tried to post a note at 100% volume level?

  • My god, it sounded like maybe 7 guys singing.

    Absolute masters.

  • WOW!!! Coming from an ex-choir singer, you guys are AMAZING. absolutely flawless. especially the bit between 0:42 and 0:58 . seriously guys, flawless work.

  • @Quintonwantsgirls o what a day o what day..

  • This song is Amazing!!!

  • i listen to this whenever i get upset. makes me feel 76 times better :)

  • It's Like Glee only actually on scale.

  • Man, I want them to be so much louder. I don't know if it's the recording, but they sound like they're at about 60% volume level.

  • THis was sooo enjoyable

  • I would suggest the goofball with the alarm clock go back to sleep and refrain from commenting.

  • @Quintonwantsgirls

Why is this song shit? You can change your alarm.

  • @mhferg1 it was a joke relax bro, this is great

  • @mhferg1 "Shit" in that context is a positive term nowadays. He was complementing the song.

  • I love barbershop, and I'm astounded by the talent in this chorus, but the over-the-top choreography is such a turn off and really distracting from the music. If I wanted to see something like this I'd go to a Broadway show.

  • Bravo! Outstanding! This is good as it as it gets.Going to send it to all my friends.

  • i like the part where they sing

  • 57 people think Bieber is music

  • Friggen awsome piece of music, makes me kinda sick I couldn't sing even in highschool choir...

  • Dad was in the East York Barbershoppers and I never saw anything like this

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang, being a trombone player- I really appreciate that sucide near the end. The singing and staging was just WOW- how did all your talent fit in that building???

  • OMG! That's what I'm talkin' about!!! I want to be a part of a chorus like that!!!!

  • This is the single most amazing choral and visual experience I have seen Youtube. What they did was so hard and so clean...simply terrific

  • All I can say is to repeat what allysoma wrote "I'm grinning like an idiot right now"!!!

  • 56 Dislikes ?? I LOVED IT !

  • I am grinning like an idiot right now. Thankyou for sharing this!

  • Fabulous!! I developed a love for barbershop music when singing in Sweet Adelines. This is a great performance.

  • Fabulous!! I developed a love for barbershop music when singing in Sweet Adelines. This is a great performance.

  • Holy sh@:$.&!!!! Awesome!!

  • Just amazing!

  • That was incredibly fantastic. I love that they do the "guillotine" at the end - my kids' high school band does that. :-)

  • I want to know who the 55 morons are who dislike this performance. They apparently either don't appreciate or understand all the hundreds of hours these guy have worked to reach this level. GREAT job!!!

  • AWESOME! my jaws just dropped what a performance!! YEAH!

  • What a great sound. Visually spectacular too

  • AAHHHH 3:00 Sound Tech FAIL.

  • @lightman369 I think it would be really difficult to adjust the gain on the microphone that dramatically that quickly though

  • @Tricheystudios Well, my point is it wouldn't hurt anything to have those mics on anyway. The gain should already be set. It could have just been un muted very easily.

  • @lightman369 I think the mics were on but the gain was set incredibly low because of the number of people singing onstage. I wouldn't know seeing as I didn't work there but that would be my assumption.

  • @Tricheystudios It's not that big a deal, you can hear the rest of the song. ha. Well, it depends on the mic, but those mics should have the gain at least kind of high. I'm pretty sure they're not on at all. You can hear them sing because they're projecting well, so you can hear the sound reflections into the other mics. Anyway, not that big a deal. I just really wanted to hear that part better.

  • @lightman369 Haha I agree with you. That was a smart move putting Vocal Spectrum up there. All you can here is TIm haha

  • @Tricheystudios hear, my bad...

  • @lightman369 Just wondering, do you sing in a chorus?

Generally, those front mics ARE turned on, even for the chorus. They are given a lower amount of gain than in the quartet competition, but they are still used. If they weren't used, tech would just remove them from the stage!

  • @supersingerevan Not in a Barbershop Chorus, no. Yes, I understand that. That's why I said It wouldn't have hurt to have them up anyway. But, I have to say, it IS fairly obvious that they're not on. You can still hear them coming through the chorus mics via reflections from the room. And as I said, it's not a big deal at all. The performance is incredible, everything is perfect, it's just that it makes sense, as we have both stated that the quartet mics should have been on so we could hear.

  • @lightman369 I must disagree, they are on. If for no other proof, the videographer mixes the audio from the sound picked up by the on-stage mics. Without those mics, you literally wouldn't have heard anything from VS. They would not be on stage if they were not being used, because there is no quartet competition on the chorus competition day.

  • @supersingerevan Sorry, but you obviously have no knowledge of how live audio works, and apparently you think I don't either. In the room there are several audience mics and the chorus mics, all condensor mics most likely, as well as the quartet mic(s). The ONLY reason you can hear Vocal Spectrum is because they know how to project and the chorus mics as well as the audience mics are picking them up. They're not on. Final Answer. I'm done arguing, drop it and watch the video.

  • @lightman369 I suppose I'll just have to come back and tell you you're wrong in two weeks, after I've been on that stage.

I've worked with live audio for 5 years, thanks.

  • @supersingerevan So, you're gonna travel back in time are you? Interesting. Let me know how that works for ya. Good for you.

  • @lightman369 I assume they keep the sound set-up the same on the International stage year after year, after the 50+ years of doing it.

  • @lightman369 I don't have direct knowledge of the process, but I'm pretty sure that the sound feed to the DVD recording and the sound feed to the house speakers were different. Thus, VS was picked up by those mics live, but that signal wasn't in the mix for the DVD. I do know that the audience heard them loud and clear, as you can tell by their reaction.

  • I've seen this so many times. I know what is going to happen and yet I still get excited. I love barbershop!

  • wow.

  • Incredible how clear the annunciation... the choriagraphy flawlessly executed... just an amazing performance. Thank you!

  • Whenever I'm feeling down about my chorus, or the organization, I watch this performance and it reminds me exactly why we do what we do. Indescribably amazing, gentlemen!

  • Wow, what a dynamic choir! Such a big group so well coordinated! I loved the unexpected costume changes too.

  • @bunkabusta01 Well, I really enjoyed it too but was the F bomb necessary? Glee is a good proram.

  • For visuals in this song they received a score of 498 out of 500. Meaning they received 3 "perfect" scores of 100 and 2 scores of a 99. They were the first chorus to ever do so. I was in the audience for this performance, it was even better live if you can picture that. So amazing!

  • Lol, the (positively) weirdest choir I've ever seen.

  • There is no such thing as a score of 100 in barbershop competition. However, this was a magnificent performance.

  • @gailalong...clearly you don't know how the scoring system works in the men's barbershop organization. In the Presentation Category, there were FIVE judges and three of those five judges gave them a 100 on this particular song. So yes, there IS such a thing as a score of 100 in a competition by a single judge.

  • Sang competitive Barbershop in the mid '80s...these guys are definitely a cut above any I've heard, and I'd heard a few (Including the International champs in '85)...

Most Impressive. as good as they sound here, just imagine them *live*......you in the crowd. You'd have goosebumps on goosebumps when they hit their straight chords...excellent overtones

  • holy crap crowd reaction

  • 53 people don't deserve ears or eyes.

  • LMAO @ 53 dislikes...go back to your Lady GaGa, morons.

  • Amazing singing, as well as dancing and movements.

  • Wow! I sang with a Professional Chorus at one point in time, but these guys are absolutely amazing! I listen to it again and again and I still get goosebumps every single time! Well done!

  • I got a cut and paste 'thankyou' suggesting they had already got plans finalised; that 2012 was going to be the best SuperBowl ever; and that if they wanted any more information, they'd be in touch. I think they thought I was management or agent to AoH. I did suggest that when they had time for a coffee break away from their busy schedule they could do worse than watch this. We'll see [but I'm not holding my breath].

  • I, too, have sent the Superbowl Committee an email [as per dismezdatu's excellent suggestion]. I'll keep you informed if they get back to me.

Meanwhile, I'm going to watch this again. And again.

  • The movement is unnecessary. They perform it well but their singing is executed well enough to stand on its own.

To those who cite drum corps as reason . . . doesn't work. Drum corps came out of the marching band tradition which came from the British Brass Band tradition. Marching has always been part of that genre.I sometimes feel that we are losing our ability to simply listen. In our classrooms, everything has become visual. In the types of leisure we engage in, the same occurs.

  • @SoccerCoach313 I hope I don't appear rude, but are you new to barbershop harmony? This kind of performing is what yields high Presentation scores. Presentation is 1/3 of the overall score.

  • @SoccerCoach313 It doesn't hurt, however, when one of your members has a world championship ring from 1980 Blue Devils. The marching visuals helped enhance the performance. Yes thing arranging was spectacular and hte singing part of the performance spot on, but this is a competition at the highest levels...a good visual element doesn't hurt if constructed and performed properly.

  • Definitely amongst my favorites!!!

  • is this the westminster chorus? it sounds like them. they are sooooo amazinq!!

  • @teenybabyx9 These are NOT the Westminster Chorus but are, in some ways better. their mastership of the four part Barbershop style of singing is fantastic in its own right but with the supurbly choreographed movements and the energy to pull it all off is a credit to their Chorus Director, music team and choreographer. Being in a Barbershop chorus here in the UK and entertaining hundreds of thousands of people each year I am fully aware of the hard work and dedication. WELL done

  • My fellow BOA alumni aught to absolutely LOVE this!!

  • Absolutely amazing :D thats Barbershop at it's best !! I sing in traditional male voice choirs in Wales, but I would love to try barbershop sometime XD

  • ...WHY?

  • @araujofar Um...I'll just point out that you have uploaded C-grade pop Christian tunes to youtube (which begs the question: "Are there A-grade pop Xian tunes?", but let's address that another time). This is a compelling, vibrant genre, far more sophisticated and better executed on every level than what you have posted, which is probably why you're irritated. Jesus wants you to do barbershop...He told me.

  • @xgianpatrick. Hi Patrick. I do agree that it is sophisticated and well executed. The problem is not the song, and I am sure you don't know what I mean. Anyway, I was really rude, sorry about that. I removed my unfortunate comment.

  • @araujofar Shut up you idiot. This style of singing is sung all over the world...douche.

  • Comment removed

  • @F150MikeFX4 I didn't say that the genre is not sung over the world. Actually, the song is good. The problem is not the song...

  • This is the Manly Glee

  • WOW

  • @predater208 Nothing gay about it... I hate that that's the stereotype of barbershop. It's completely false.

  • If you think the choreography detracts from the music, lighten up. Take a look at DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL.

  • Check out belgian Voice mail! they are really good barbershop

  • This is absolutely wonderful. Perfect. Entertaining and technically sophisticated. Polished and precise. I can't conceive of how much work went into this! Proud to be a male vocalist.

  • The choreography is a wonderful addition to an amazing performance

  • And the crowd goes wild!!! I heard that you actually were scored 100 for this performance. Has any group EVER scored 100 for b'shop comp?

How cool is this!? You guys are phenomenal! Spectacular ending(s). Having sung barbershop (about a million years ago), I can appreciate the stunning amount of work that went into making this the performance of a lifetime. You really nailed it! Way to go, fellas! Gotta love that lock and ring! ♥ Congratulations to each and every one of you!

  • @beauregardnmagnolia - actually, we scored 100's from only 3 judges (out of 15) and only in the presentation category (we earned 99's from the 2 other judges in that category). In the remaining 2 categories, "Music" and "Singing" we did not score 100's, although our scores in those categories did average 97+. We have since been outscored by another great chorus, Westminster, in THEIR 2010 contest set, so we no longer hold the all-time record. We thank you for your support and encouragement.

  • @beauregardnmagnolia

My dad was in the chorus that placed third that year and he told me the winning team earned 98 points, which was the highest score ever earned. No one has made 100 in the international competition, he said, because that would require absolutely perfect precision in pitch, presentation, etc. and that's all but impossible with so many human variables. I just noticed your comment and thought I would help answer your question. :D

  • Its supposed to be about the music !

  • Omg,they did suicidal trumpets lol. Im a band kid that missed out on choir because of sports, oh well, music career ftw

  • I guess thats what you call white soul ...to each his owned!

  • Just Stand and deliver for shit sake!!!

  • @elbowout In our other competition song, that's exactly what we did. So it is with a lot of the other songs we sing. I'm sorry that you didn't feel the choreography enhanced the message here. But I think most everyone who was in the arena that day would disagree with you.

  • @elbowout NO

  • @TenorJOE Go back to the roots and yes it is. Barbershop is simply a style of composition. The performance used to be scored on believability of the faces and the voices. I wouldn't say the choreography detracts, far from it, but back in the old days choreo didn't exist beyond a few hand gestures and maybe some acting by two or three on stage (usually the director). That said elbowout, the contest is completely about entertaining the masses and showing off, so bear in mind the occassion.

  • Holy crap that made me cry!

  • freddie mercury would have loved this xD

  • amazing

  • @Mrcubsfan This is called 'Barbershop Harmony'. It's a kind of acapella, close harmony - 'born' of african and european elements, it's one of few truly american-born forms of art.

  • @cbbshop AcWhy did Africa have to come in.

  • This was the most incredible barbershop performance I have EVER seen. Bravo and yes, I , too, would like to see them perform at the SuperBowl. jelcox@cox.net

  • What musical genre would you consider this?

    PLEASE REPLY!

    thanks

  • @MrCubsfan02 the answer is in the video title.

  • @MickDargan

    Barbershop?

  • I would love to hear and see them at the Super Bowl or anyplace else for that matter.

    Excellent!

  • I agree, they would be excellant for Super Bowl half time. The half time show the last several years has been terrible. I wonder wh decides on the entertainment? Those Black Eyed Peas were awful.

  • This, ladies and gentle men is how you preform! This is entertainment at its absolute finest! When those guys first come out in their costumes you think that they couldn't possibly have anything else up their sleeves, the BAM they hit you with everything they've got!

  • these guys put on the most amazing show!! In
