Great to see mochi being made from start to finish. Looked like everyone involved had fun doing it. I found a shop in London that sells mochi - I love the stuff!
I like "Isobeyaki" mochi (the baked rice cake wrapped with "nori (sea weed)" after soaked in soy sauce enough). It's yum especially when you are a little hungry. :)
I grabbed them at the station and havent opened it yet, population? not sure but as all old places here..lots of building and renovation...the city is cool but slowly loosing its classic japan look. I have been visiting there for a week period for 8 years wile living in the states and its been changing allot but still a good place to see.
nice vid. thought you were going to hit the camera with the mallet there for a sec. awesome family. kawaii kids!! mmm mochi.

i have a question:
I'm german and don't know if i...
...should buy a mochi maker, which costs arround 100€
....should make it with glutinious rice flour and water
.... or if i should get one of these old fashioned bowls, but i don't know where
btw great video :D

Dude I would get a stone bowl or something and make your own mallet. The machine is really expensive. You can do it on a smaller scale by hand.

very cool arigato gozaimasu for the video. I think i will respect mochi more when i eat it, man that is a lot of work.

Well they have machines now but it tastes better when you slave over it. Cheers!

I just did! Sweet...or should I say, "spicy"? I'd love to try those! What's the population of Matsumoto? I have yet to get up to that part of Japan!
