  • nice vid. thought you were going to hit the camera with the mallet there for a sec. awesome family. kawaii kids!! mmm mochi.

  • I watched this video at my japanese class.

We are making Japanese New year's cards.

  • Cool!!

  • i have a question:

    I'm german and don't know if i...

...should buy a mochi maker, which costs arround 100€

....should make it with glutinious rice flour and water

.... or if i should get one of these old fashioned bowls, but i don't know where

    btw great video :D

  • Dude I would get a stone bowl or something and make your own mallet. The machine is really expensive. You can do it on a smaller scale by hand.

  • very cool arigato gozaimasu for the video. I think i will respect mochi more when i eat it, man that is a lot of work.

  • Well they have machines now but it tastes better when you slave over it. Cheers!

  • Love this vid man!

  • Thanks dude!

  • Nice family you have there.

You are living my dream :P

I hope i can do the same in a few years time.

  • looks like you are with one nice family

gz, I hope I'll have as much luck as you!

  • Thanks I am very fortunate to have them:)

  • Great to see mochi being made from start to finish. Looked like everyone involved had fun doing it. I found a shop in London that sells mochi - I love the stuff!

  • Cool... You will get along here if like stuff like that. People here are amazed when I tell them I made mochi for new year... eeeeeeeeeeh!

  • Mmmmmmmochi!

The dinner I made tonight included soy sauce and dried nori seaweed sprinkles. I'm such a Japanophile!

  • I like "Isobeyaki" mochi (the baked rice cake wrapped with "nori (sea weed)" after soaked in soy sauce enough). It's yum especially when you are a little hungry. :)

  • Yea in the states its processed and old..I hated it. Then when I ate it fresh and still warm it was fantastic! But we ate it all day...

  • i watch your video at first.

    your eyes very beautiful...!

  • Thanks I am flattered :)

  • Another great video. It's the first time I've seen the entire mochi making process. Very cool. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks... check out matsumoto vid.. I actually found hot spicy kit kats.

  • I just did! Sweet...or should I say, "spicy"? I'd love to try those! What's the population of Matsumoto? I have yet to get up to that part of Japan!

  • I grabbed them at the station and havent opened it yet, population? not sure but as all old places here..lots of building and renovation...the city is cool but slowly loosing its classic japan look. I have been visiting there for a week period for 8 years wile living in the states and its been changing allot but still a good place to see.

  • I wish to have Mochi so much.

    Looks so good!
