  • i have never seen a white egg before, in England all the eggs are brown,

  • Nice! I love the keyhole idea.

  • well done..

  • Great job Tam , I can allmost smell the smoke ! Everything is better when cooked outdoors . Partially because we allways work up an appetite getting the firewood and othe chores. The main reason is as you pointed out that we don't need to be in such a hurry . More time to be thankfull and give thanks to the one who provides the good food and the strength and skill to prepare it. May God continue to Bless you and your family .

  • @carvinrigged Thanks so much. We all find food tastes better cooked outdoors too! Thanks so much for the reminder to be thankful to Whom we receive all blessings from! May you and yours be blessed as well, nice to meet you!

  • Tam You cease to amaze me!

  • I saw your recipe at the very bottom but I would use whole wheat flour the dark kind and I add blueberries or cut up bananas in the mix they come out so tasty! Try also adding just a bit of cinnamon powder in the mix just a tiny bit with the whole wheat flour it gives it such good taste!

  • @gladtidings4all oh those sound good too :) The neat thing was being able to do it on a cookie sheet which is far lighter than a cast iron skillet. Great idea's you shared, thanks :) It's so hot today, 87! Feels cooler outside than inside. Go figure go from using the stove to being tempted to use air conditioning! I'm feeling camping fever :)

  • Another great video thanks. I myself use olive oil in those new pump spray bottle you fill up yourself then pump with the cover on to build pressure inside to spray just like a regular bottle can but you fill it yourself! Very economical and healthy!

  • @gladtidings4all Yep I do that too, the spray salad dressing bottles are perfect for it.

  • Your making me hungry! Thanks for the shared knowledge!

  • Beautiful job, food always taste better to me when cooked outdoors like this. Kepp em coming.

  • i've used the key fire but never thought to use a cookie sheet, Thanks

  • Never thought to use a baking sheet to cook on. Much lighter to carry with you and cheaper. Great idea, Thanks.

  • looks good im hungry

  • Love your cooking show it always makes me so hungry!

  • im hungry... damn you

  • I think it is great that your wife is involved in these videos. And what she is cooking looks damn good i must say. .once again i realy enjoy your videos. very informative .thank you

  • great vid

  • But doesn't that mean it's dirty? i mean im a beaner and i think that's gross and i thought black people were gross Dx

  • wat if you can't afford all of that?? o.O

  • Afford what Brain? I'm not sure what you are referring to

  • Um...

    I said their stuff

    Duuuuuuuuuuuuh

    Sherlock >.>

  • @HypnoBrain afford what ? Its a no brainer , use your imagination and common sence! I have found 2 (10 in. iron skillets ) in dumpsters (You will be surprised at the unnessary waste by people esp. university students , and I bought one 5 in. skillet from Value Village ( like a goodwill ) 4 $ 1.00 , food most of the food items I can get for free from food pantries where I live . other food items I can forage for and process no big deal !

  • @HypnoBrain look fro it in the woods :D b creative and create ur own. see ho wthey made hot plate out of rock. . look for birds that just layed their egg's. look for a lion. do some thing awesume!

  • Oh my, my mouth is watering for some pancakes and eggs, simply a filling meal fit for a king. Please continue with these videos, "Cooking with Tam" is always a delight! I am so hungry now.

  • i use a method very similar to yours,. I have exactly whats shown in your video but i throw a big square flat rock that fits perfectly in to my key hole, cook the rock for an hour and slide it in, we like it because its smokeless and stays hot enough to cook on for a long time. on fishing trips deep in the bush you can cook meat and vegetables directly on the rock... never tried pancakes but i'm going to now. thank you for sharing.

  • very interesting video, thanks

  • Very nicely done Tam!

  • learned something new today for my next camping trip. Tks!

  • Hey Tam,

A trick I've learned, is if you crack your egg on a flat surface you are less likely to break the yoke and less likely to have small pieces of egg shell get in your breakfast. Now I have to go and make some pancakes. Thanks great vid.

  • Way to go Tam, I just gained ten pounds thanks a lot.

  • Thanks Tam, this is great! I'm one of those people who don't have a cast iron skillet but I do have old cookie sheets I was about to throw out and now I won't, so this really helps me alot! Thanks.

  • Btw, I forgot to say it on the video, but the best cookie sheets imho come from bakers secret, you can check them out on the web. Cold pressed steel.

Sorry for omitting that detail! Tam

  • I wonder if that grapeseed oil could do double duty as a fire starter?

    Bill

  • MrBill,

Hi there, always enjoy your input! I don't know the answer but if you test it out will you share your findings?

    Thanks!

  • wow you sure know just when to flip em!

  • Looks great!! Can't wait to try it out :) Thanks so much for sharing.

  • I love this Tam!

  • Tam you always amaze me. Dave what kind of bottom is the fire pit. Hard to tell from the video is that a stone or cement floor for the pit. Sure looks good. Say Dave did you seal that thing up with some of that special lip balm. LOL

  • Pappy..

Nothing special for a floor... We actually have a hole dug in the dirt.. but it had pretty much filled with ashes.. We need to empty it soon. I didn't use lip balm to seal it :)

  • Keep an eye on our firepit pappy, it's got a huge hole in it today, guess we're up to something ;)

Actually it's for our supper tonight. Stay tuned...and bring your fork and plate!

Btw, I used the same cookie sheet to do these HUGE beef frankfurts and they cooked beautifully no charring from the fire, rather a deep golden brown all around, I'm a cookie sheet aholic now, testing everything :)

  • very well said at 4:15! this video just made me all kinds of happy. save cost and lbs with that too! next time I'll bring bacon and coffee.

  • ? Vhy not teflon ?

  • Hi Dude,

If you go to google and type teflon and poison you'll see why. I can't type a link here it won't post.

    Thanks for asking,

    Tam

  • ur wife is a beast at cooking i hate breakfast foods but still gotta show respect when its earned 5*

  • There is nothing like the little extra kick you get from the ashes in you eggs, i cant seem to make eggs without getting ash in them somehow, maybe its just me. Your keyhole fire works like a charm. Move over rachel ray here comes tam.

  • Tam. What are the ingredients of your homemade pancake batter? Awesome idea on using a cookie sheet! I love it! BTW, to all you people looking for cast iron, check out garage/estate sells; I got a nice 8 inch pan for 25 cents a few weeks ago.

  • Everfish, after years of making pancakes, this remains our families favorite.

    2 eggs

    2 1/4 cup milk

    1 Tbsp oil

    2 Cups unbleached white flour

    2 tsp sugar (optional)

    3 tsp baking powder

    1 tsp salt

Mix wet in mixer till it looks nice and frothy, then add dry, mix till "lumpy" looking.

I'm looking for a bigger dutch oven, seems I have to double everything for our family in my small one. I shop the way you do ;)

  • YUM! will try this out next week at 3500 meters.

  • look how yellow those yolks are! i'm jealous.

grocery store eggs are not nearly as vibrant, and consequently not nearly as healthy or tastey.

  • don't know why I have never done this, I always do the cooking out doors, I use a cast iron pan, and a dutch oven lid, to fry pan cakes on. The cookie sheet is light, and I may be able to get a few more pan cakes on it, than on my dutch oven lid. Thanks, may God bless and keep you.

  • Excellent

    5 stars

  • mmm man that looks good, and everything tastes better when cooked on a fire, dunno why..just does.

  • Looked great!

  • another great video Tam. I am glad I ate dinner before watching or I would have to fire the grill back up.

  • Awesome as always Tam! You guys have great ideas. Love ur cooking vids!

  • Tam could fry up a dirty sock and make you believe it was gourmet! Great idea with the cookie sheet as a cast iron griddle cook really weigh down the pack.

    Thanks for the vid,

    Stumpy Pope

  • Oh Stumpy, you made me roar! I'm no chef, I do enjoy cooking and baking and love sharing ideas with you all.

A cookie sheet is much easier to haul!

    blessings,

    Tam

  • Did you really forget the bacon? I thought you guys were vegoids.

  • I really forgot my turkey bacon! Can't find beef bacon around this area, and don't eat pork products. For those who are vegetarian, I also pick up vegetarian bacon ;)

  • Mmmm, that smells good...doy you have that new smellycamera =)

Thanks for again providing such a great video

  • Tam you never cease to amaze us with your abilities and Ideas may you and yours have a blessed tabernacle

  • Yum!

  • Great video Tam once again ya made me hungry. If I was you Dave would not be eating after all if you don't bring home the bacon you don't eat. HA HA Dave just kidding enjoy. I like the idea to use a cookie sheet but why not a non stick pan.

  • Hi Bigjim,

The ones coated with Teflon flake and you end up eating it. I much prefer the ones without that Teflon after reading the health hazard connected to it.

    Hope this helps?

    Tam

  • cookie sheet great idea

  • mmm looked good!

  • That's an awesome idea, thanks Tam!!

  • nice pancakes :)

  • good video and great idea. thanks

  • you guys do eat meat

  • Most here do..

My oldest daughter and I don't

  • do you can meat if so could you make some videos on is i would sure appreciate it

  • I love it! Tam every time I watch I get hunger pains! What a wonderful new camp fire pit. Something like my father would make when I was younger. Them hot cakes look great. Need some grits and some bacon with a big pot of black coffee to top it off. Everything tastes better in the outdoors. Great video once again.

  • I am camping with you all next time. Alot more than what I had when I woke up lol. I did make some awsome coffee lol.

  • What a nice video. Great idea for cooking too.

  • Fantastic idea! I never would have thought of that! I really enjoy your videos, they are very informative. May God Bless you and your family.

  • As Homer Simpson would say "pancakes mmmmmm"

  • thats a good idea and less weight to haul
