I Have to disagree with everyone saying that the 5.3 is faster than the 4.8. I have an '01 chevy 4X4 with the 4.8 and 3.73 gears. When it was stock it would beat a 5.3 and 6.0. now its tuned and k&n, but working on what exhaust to put on.

I really cannot see how you were beating 5.3 and 6.0. A 4.8 is the smallest GM V-8 motor has. A 5.3 is a stocked 4.8, So it flows a hole lot better. The 6.0 is a big block and they run. I have 5.3 and to date the oly car or truck that has beaten me was a late 90"Trans Am WS6. So I have a hard time believing that. Watch my videos.

lq4-or lq9 aka 6.0 is still a small bloc. The 8.1 is the only BBC that GM has put in their trucks in years.

@joebro82 I went back to check and see if I was quoting the right motor. It was a Cadillac motor. I found it. It is a 364 big block. You can stroke one out to a 396. And they came from the early 80's . I believe that the 400 big block displacement was 6.0, also,

Crap now a days a stock for stock motor the 5.3 would kill the old 400's without breaking a sweat and still get better MPG. lol. How far we have come. But there is nothing like having the TQ and lope of a built BBC.

the 6.0 in the denali is a vortec and the one in the gto is a ls2 two completely diffrent engines about 100 hp apart

Correstion The 6.0 LS1 and the Vortec are the same block with different heads and intake. Not complete different motors. You can put LS-1 heads on a Vortec motor. Yes they are about 100 hp difference but that is about it.

Correction ls1 is made in a 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 and Yeah sorry they they made ls2 in 6.0 and 8.1. So ls1 is a style of motor like Vortec. It isn't one motor. So next time check your sources before quoting
