  • Christy Moore, his voice is so awesome, like a warm irish whiskey.

I love to hear him sing this song, He is a legend.

  • @Cathye3 I am very agree !

  • Christy Moore's cover is a new take on Merchant's version. It's great to see one of Natalie's songs covered by a person of other country. This cover stands on its own as a great song.

  • this is like a lullabie for us young irish lads gone away, and everytime we listen 2 this song,it draws a tear, but ina goodway!thanks christy

  • CHRISTY, a true living legend!!!

  • What chord is he playing with his thumb and wee finger does anyone know? If anyone knows the actual chords of the whole song too could they let me know. thx

  • @SnowyNUFC

Not sure of the chords of this but they shouldn't be too hard to find on Google. He's playing G with his wee finger....he always plays it like that, not sure why.

  • makes ya teary hah

  • those 2 thicks who dis liked this must be degenerate english cunts

  • i love when my dad sings me this..has me teary :')

  • Just listened to the Natalie Merchant version and I still think Christy Moore performs it better. He's more passionate, and it seems to have more meaning to him when he sings it! The guitar also sounds far better in Christy's version. After all him and Declan are both a genius on the guitar, :-)

  • whats the meaning of this song

  • Pure silk, the man, his country, the passion, maybe one day I shall be in his audience

  • One of my favorite songs, and Christie gives us a great cover!

I moved across the country a few months ago and listening to this always makes me miss home...

  • I have been a big Natalie Merchant fan (my understanding is that she wrote this), but this Christy Moore version makes the Natalie Merchant versions pale in comparison. Others mileage may vary! Even live, this just rolls off of his lips and guitar!

  • The only artist that each time i see him, just gets better Queens hall embra 13/04/2011, fantastic!

  • I want my own Christy Moore so he can sing me to sleep every night =]

  • PURE talent!! Id say its the first album i actually paid to download of itunes its that gud

  • who knew music can have such emotion, Christy Moore seems to express emotion better than any other live acoustic artist and really just crushes all the crappy chart stuff these days

  • it's a great song, well performed also. still pondering what it's about; emigrants or suicidebombers (the album 'motherland' was dedicated to 9/11 victims). i think the latter. But the Irish accent makes it a bit off this world, almost a farewell. Tricky. Any opinions?

  • vintage christy,gifted.

  • omg beautiful , what lyrics, what heart, wow

  • go on ya cunt ya

  • Absolutely stunning.

  • Nicely sung by Christy but... No one can sing this better than Natalie, they can do versions of, but Natalie's voice is a part of the song, it is intertwined with the words and melody.

Here's a test for you, who's singing the song when you hear it in your head?

@beroconnell: Glad you're going somewhere good now, shame some people can't just listen without judging, maybe they should look at themselves in the mirror before opening their mouth.

@coirpeach1: Hope you survive and get your rights

  • ta ocras ar na paiste ta siad ag lorg an eolas

  • Very good

  • bero connel no 1 cares bou yer life story ffs, just a song dont cry

  • I left Ireland In 1988 to come to Canada.....because I was torn apart by a land that never respected what I had to offer. Seems to me the cruel world of Irish Politics has again infected those that have the same to offer has i did. Its sad but as we all know corruption is a wonderful thing among those when the good life seems to be obliterated from there normal way of life. For those of you who come to where I am " Welcome to Canada" you will enjoy and never look back

  • @beroconnell why u telling us ur life story, dont cry for fuck sake its only a song

  • @beroconnell Ill stay and fight for my rights

  • Oh this song .. Been away for 19 years from my Motherland and this is so moving, brings tears to my eyes at the best of times! Top - thanks for posting!

  • This is one of the best version's of this song i've heard so far and it's really meaninful, This means a lot to me, And i occasionally listen to it when i have problems - Why? Because it seems to take the worries away - Christy is a good Singer, Well done to him. Seem's nicer when a male is singing it. ^^

  • Does any one know what the guy´s name is who is playing with Christy? This a very beautiful version. Perfection. I luv him.

  • @mymsil Declan Sinnott

  • @55911061 Thanks!!

  • Simple yet profound, i like it :)

  • best version

  • wow!!! beautiful beautiful voice!!! always expresses every word with such emotion!!

goosebumps for me!! Christy we love you!!

  • beutiful,vintage christy.

  • For one who listens to heavy metal such as myself there is always that one exception; that one beautiful song that sings with the soul. The song that just vibrates with you and give you sense of calm and that wonderful feeling when you put a blanket on and your all warm and safe. This song is it...

  • best version of all

  • my opinion of merchant is she's a great lyricist, and she's a good musician, i personally just dislike her voice/singing style, and i like moore's cover better.

  • This is beautifull

  • For the record...I love this.

  • I can imagine Christy really cares about some of the previous posts. No, really. He's probably wounded. So, assuming I'm being sarcastic, some of the nay-sayers jumped on, to spout their venom on youtube... why exactly? Goddamn losers. Its a good song, leave it at that.

  • go on the christy, never away from the hills of donegal when i miss home, over in oz,thank christy, makes me feel at home for a couple of mins,

  • A lot of very strange comments on here..The very idea that Christy "should be" doing this or that, is ludicrous, Why pigeeon hole anyone in that way... I too prefer Natalie's version but with so much crap out there clogging the airwaves I am happy to hear this version drifting on the wind..

  • @gudlisner501

    I completely agree.

  • most of u what the fuck it's a beautiful song and he sings it better than any of u could so what the fuck u talkin about

  • Wow people back off everyone quit the hating, These guys had asked Natalie Merchant permission for her song. Ms. Merchant was honored that they want to include one of her songs on their album, she a big fan of these guys. This info is posted on her official website, in older post. read about it.

  • @enyrb Where did I say it was the best? In fact I specifically said it maybe wasnt as good as Natalie's. Your attitude amazes me, just cos its Irish? what a chilsidh thing to say.

  • @enyrb What?! Thats bullshit, why shouldnt people try it? I think Christy does a great job, maybe not as good as Natalie but good all the same. You were obviously interested in listening to other versions if you clicked in here in the first place so give the stupid comments a rest.

  • go fuck yourself ya langer, no one asked you

  • i think your wrong

  • great song, dvd and book, gets better with age, on this site by mistake, lost a couple of hours in nostalgia, great

  • This a brillant version of motherland I think it is better than Natalie Merchants version well done Christie.

    Rachel

  • best version of this song i have heard

  • @neillyport Try Natalie Merchant's version....

  • @neillyport Ummmm..... Have you heard the original???

  • Stunning song, and singer

  • It has much feeling before!!! I like the version of Natalie as well. I think she is one of the "feeling in song" in person! But I like Christy´s live version and the backing work of Declan is fantastic.

  • One of my all time favorites by nathalie but well done Christy, you captured the soul of the song, which takes real talent.

  • Anyone know what tuning christy uses?

  • smashing song

  • hope next product from christy as soon as possible
