When you keep a fish of that size out of the water for too long it dries there gills and they eventually die because of it. normally happens with lake sturgeon but theres no reason to torture a fish for that long

Any angler that keeps a pike out of the water for longer than three to four minutes should never be allowed to fish again. I wish people would bother to do some research. Pike are incredibly fragile fish, they are not made of steel. Damage their gill rakers and you could kill them, it's so easy to do but keeping them out of the water for any length of time can prove to be disastrous. 3-4 minutes MAX!
this video is only 1.35 long if you add on the time taken to unhook the fish say another minute and half soo the fish will have been out the water for just over 3 mins i've had pike out of the water for longer than that when removing arsehoes traces out of their throats and they have swam away happy enough even after getting operated on

I caught a nice 23lb fish out of the river bann here in northern ireland and it looks almost identical to that '30lb' fish, either my scales are fooked or their scales are fooked. can't say they appeal to me as beautiful and majestic...but they sure are delicious, and having a pike outta water that long and not eating it is just a shame because now if they release it, it probably is damaged and wont add anything else back to the pike population.

Any angler that keeps a pike out of the water for longer than three to four minutes should never be allowed to fish again. I wish people would bother to do some research. Pike are incredibly fragile fish, they are not made of steel. Damage their gill rakers and you could kill them, it's so easy to do but keeping them out of the water for any length of time can prove to be disastrous. 3-4 minutes MAX!

this video is only 1.35 long if you add on the time taken to unhook the fish say another minute and half soo the fish will have been out the water for just over 3 mins i've had pike out of the water for longer than that when removing arsehoes traces out of their throats and they have swam away happy enough even after getting operated on

i do CPR as quick as possible its always under 5mins you cant tell how long this pike was out the water as the video is only 1.30 long but if i had a 30lber i know id want a good picture of it!!! as long as the fish survives its ok right? all the pike iv caught up to 28lb have swan away strong and iv had the 28lber twice so i cant be doing anything wrong surely!!!

nice i aint done much just l8ly went one of the resvoir that the club i am in had an 18lb myself and i also witnessed a 16lb, 14lb, and 12lb also caught that day and the week before there were 5 20lbs caught a 32lb a 27lb but i rekon theres better stil to come

OK normally I don't post comments but I'm going to have to on this one. obama00not, your wrong with your comment. sly41 has a good and valid point. Pike cannot stay out of water for a long period of time. I caught 67 Pike this year from a leak nearby and have been fishing pike for the last 6 years and can tell you, you need to haul ass after taking them out of the water. They will die if not done so.

I caught a nice 23lb fish out of the river bann here in northern ireland and it looks almost identical to that '30lb' fish, either my scales are fooked or their scales are fooked. Out of the water too long, big fish afetr a big fight needs to be back swimming within 2 minutes. These muppets wasted too much time

Oh My God - this pike is never a 30 in a million years - and these fools have pretty much made sure it will never see 30 either... Its a low 20 and they have called in the world press to get every picture possible without concern for the pike, must of been out the water well over 5 mins, how would the fat guy like to be kept under water the same length of time. I live in N California, those thing are pests, an invasive species and against the law to even have one.

i live in northwestern ontario
(in the bush). my people eat pikes that size.. we don't eat small pikes(we call jackfish).. there is a way u can clean a large pike so that there won't be any bones in there..just have to learn how and where the bones are laid..i personally don't know how but my uncle who knows the land(our traditional lands) cooks and cleans awesome fish..i live for hunting in the fall and spring.
