  • I loved being there.I wish I could have stayed forever

  • Macdonald and Starbucks .

    YUCK !!!!

  • Love shopping there! So many unique things to see & try! Going there again for vacation this year!

  • Okikawa was a great country

  • was

I am sorry I think you mean IS

  • COUNTRY??? Is it just a part of Japan?

  • Until late 19th century, Okinawa was part of independent kingdom of Riukyu. Was anexed by Japan at that time. Most people from Okinawa still keep the ancient languaje, the japanese riukyu languaje

  • @shigenobu0 actually Japan ruled over Okinawa way before the 19 century, as early as the 1600's when invaded by Satsuma. Sho Nei was King of Okinawa but under the dictates of Japan.

  • dont they have the 10000 people eisa festival there every summer?

  • I just came home from Okinawa about a week ago. One of my favorite things that I did and seen was the parade and the stores on Kokosai-Dori. I hope to go back one day. The people there are also wonderful!

  • Lived on Okinawa for almost 3 years from 1997-2000. I will go back one day, as it was the best time of my life.

  • Did two tours with the Marines, one in 1983 and another in 1986. I loved coming to this street because of the record shops and the yummy food. I took the bus. BIG culture shock the first time I was in Okinawa.

  • Haha, this is the street I always try to avoid!

  • Don't forget the bootleg shops

  • I was attached to the USS SALISBURY SOUND in 58 and 59. Our home port overseas was Okinawa. I have fond memories of that island. Amazing how much a place can change. I guess that's why they say you can never go back home. Nothing would be the same.

  • I love Kokusai dori my favourite place for shopping <3

  • Nice videos. In 1965-67, I was stationed at the old Naha USF Air Base where the islands main airport terminal is now located. The US air base is now a Japanese air base. I and another veteran of Okinawa from the 1960s re-visited Okinawa in 1993 and everything had changed. We did manage to find Jacks Steakhouse where we visited with Jack (in his 80s then) and also found few others from the 1960s. I have many slides but no movies of the old years. Hope to get back there again one of these years.

  • This takes me back to when I was stationed at Camp Kinser, Okinawa from 1991- 1993. Thanks for posting your entire series.

  • @teufelhunden70 Where did you work on Kinser? I was there during that same time frame, worked at the little motor pool at the very end of wharehouse road. Great times!

  • @Johnson842 I was with Rations Plt. (H&S Co., 3D Supply Bn), and also worked on warehouse road. I think I remember that little motor pool that you're talking about. As a matter of fact, I believe I picked up a CUCV from that same motor pool to drive Marines to the range in Camp Hansen. Those were the days, huh? I would love to go back to Okinawa one of these days.

  • @teufelhunden70 Yeah, that's right, we shared our motor pool with Supply BN. Small world...wish I could remember those guys names, I remember one guy used to be with Anglico, so he was a mechanic with wings.....good times in Oki, only wish I could remember more of them!!!! I guess it's really changed since we were there though, which is maybe a good thing!

  • @Johnson842 I was deployed to Camp Fuji with a guy who used to be with Anglico when I was attached to CSSD-32, but I don't remember his name. For all we know he might be the same guy you're talking about. After all, there weren't a lot of jump-qualified Marines walking around at Kinser....maybe Hansen or Schwab or even Futenma.

  • Love this street... great imformative video!

  • Thanks a lot. Hopefully I'll have a new one out this week about Okinawan music.
