I love the tutorial,I just discovered it,I will watch all your tutorials!!!!!!!!!You see I have a new obsession with making clothes and you are so helping me especially because I'm a newbie !!!!!!!If you have any ideas how to do a tea dress from the 30s pleaseeeeeeeee share with me !!!!
this is a great tutorial and ihave to say you look really good in that skirt! I adore pencil skirts but have always shyed away from them because i also have *quite a big butt* lol
Subscibed~!! since the 1st glance on ur tutorial video on Lolita dress XD
admire ur works n ur explanations, also u nvr depress on ur bodyfigure. i hv da same figure like u after delivered 3 childrens. n since then i rarely wear a DRESS/Skirt... imagine last time i wear skirts 5 or 6 days out of a week... i miss them so much but the chubby size couldn't get a nice fit on them :( i am so happy to c u in here, Evange. u make all skirt look so well!! i love it! made mine n my daughter's too~
I ADORE it! I've been an embroiderer for years and I'm looking forward to branching out into sewing and combining the two. So this is very exciting! Now I'm off to find you site and keep learning with you!!! toodles!
Thank you for the video! I have been loving high waisted pencil skirts, but because I am petite and a bit curvy I can't seem to find ones that fit me quite right.
I love all your tutorials they are so fun and you keep me inspired! Thanks for taking the time to share for someone like me that I'm not alone when it's comes to sewing!
*i got quite a BIG BUTT* lol that was funny...i have the same troubles too :p i dont get what the "dart" was for??? i couldnt see the design or finished in the back...?
@hunnybee1z I know, it sounded so weired to listen me say that in my dry, informative, narrator tone. But I also didnt want to have to rerecord.
The dart allows for there to be more fabric covering the butt, while remaining the same in the waist. It allows fabric to lie smoothly over the curves of the body without being too small in one place and too big in another.
@MsLaBajo In fair warning, knits are probably the most difficult type of fabrics to work with. A simple, non stretch, woven fabric is probably the best for beginners. But good luck none the less!
I really like using shaping in a stretch fabric. Like you, I have a slightly unbalanced figure (though my issues are topside!) and I find when I put darts into the garment, it rides up and slips down less, than if it were as you said, 'just a tube'. GREAT pattern, wonderful easy instructions. I love the bit at the end where you talked about your experience.
@blightedangel Most of my videos contain a long rambling introduction and conclusion, as it increases the likelihood that I'll get a thumbnail that showcases the garment.
When you are drawing your pattern and it's just a small scale of your pattern...what kind of paper do you use that's big enough to draw your actual pattern on? I don't have any paper that big...where can I get some? Thanks for the tutorial! Love it!
@jacnjoe when I'm sketching it in this video, I'm doing it quarter scale (using 1/4" graph paper). When I sketch the actual thing though, I use 1" graph paper. check out my video "Pattern Drafting 101: Basic Bodice Sloper" for a better explanation of the paper I use.
It looks lovely one you! Can't wait to 'till my exams are finished and I can start sewing! Now I know what to do with that stretchy fabric I bought :D
thanks heaps for your tutorials, you explain them really well. I've been hoarding fabric lately and this is an excellent simply skirt I think I'll make today! :-D
The only thing that I would add would be some sort of lining. Often times I feel that knits can be a bit too "clingy". Do you have a recommendation on how to add one?
I totally looove the way you explain !!! and the fact that you are showing us how to make our own patterns makes everything more easier and more professional !!!
@Evange No...I like the look of an updated pencil skirt in a knit fabric. The clingy nature of the material does indeed enhance curves, and bringing out the best in us is what we are all looking for! :-) Anyway, love your spunky attitude about making your own items. It has indeed inspired me! (making a pair of leggings tonight!)
Very cute, and thank you so much for the comments about knits. I still don't understand why new sewers think knits are so easy - some of the stable ones are great, but the slippery ones still give me trouble. I loved the way you explained the drafted pattern. I think I may try it!
@mwnjw Yeah, I though I had bought a fairly sturdy fabric, but it turned out to be a lot slinkier than expected. Still turned out okay though I think.
Thank you very ch for this video, I have been wanting to make a pencil skirt for a wile but most of the videos I have seen are way to complicated for me, so I very much enjoyed your's because to was very beautiful but was not that had to do. I love watching your videos :>
I really like this tutorial! This opening in the back is a slit...at least that's what we called it growing up penticostal (I never wore pants until I was 17). Anyway, I laughed when I saw this in my sub box because I've written the notes and been planning on making a pencil skirt tutorial for months, but keep putting it off.
Also, you did a great job with your VO and condensing the video down! My favorite of yours :)
i love all your tutorials! I have learnt how to make patterns from you otherwise i had no clue so thanx. I actually used ur peasant top pattern but i made a dress instead so keep am coming. By e way what you said about knitted fabric is so true but am learning lol
this is nice and very easy to follow thank you for posting

Really beautiful skirt! It looks EXCELLENT on you!
It does seem to be bunching just a bit in the front, but of course a slip would take care of that.
I thought this tutorial was really clear, and very helpful. THANK YOU!
