I think most race series are fighting for racer applicants and worry that they will have a small driver turn out. Thus, they lower the requirements for receiving a license.
Now it is mostly about people who can afford to come out and "pay to play" and talent is an afterthought.
Leo, ALMS amateur drivers are the future of professional drivers. Don't make me go to names of "professional" drivers who are best known for crashing their cars, like some Leo Parente. Amateur drivers need the hands on experience of driving in real competition, no some PS3 crap. So, please don't forget where you come from and how you got to be here today.

WTF is wrong with picture quality? You cannot encode video into crap bitrate, then re-encode it into a higher bitrate and expect to get image quality back. It doesn't work that way, but that's what some idiot is doing to parts or all of these videos! It looks like crap at 720p but still has high bitrates at times and also large download size in MB, but still looks like poop.
And Leo... I am a fan of all the race re-cap coverage, but it would be awesome if you would do a show as a "pre-race weekend recap" in order to build-up the upcoming rivalries, big contenders, and your picks for "ones to watch". Maybe even some personal reviews of specific cars involved, very similar to the intimate review of the current E92 M3 race car (very nice!). Thanks.
Agreed, mostly... Amateur licenses may be too easily obtainable, even so, since when is spatial awareness not a quality of a good racing driver, professional or not? It should be built in to the sanctioning body’s pro & am licensing requirements.

Then, we had to go shoot the M3 on the road, in the late afternoon. Saturday, I was spotting for a team on the hill on the outside of West Bend. JF was roaming. Sorry we missed you.

@LeoParente I'm surprised actually, I thought it was purposely done when there was a specific shot of a 458 (overshooting the braking zone of Big Bend?) at the exact time you were talking about "do amateurs belong on track with pro's". I thought it was a direct attack at the whole Rockenfeller crash from Le Mans. I guess it was just coincidence.

@pksangavaram Yes, as written earlier below. Refueled the car. Guess I did not tighten the cap enough to pressurize the system. M3 'read' a problem. Extra pit stop to fix it! BMW had to tell me what was wrong, after I felt I had to tell them I was breaking thier car! Ugh-gly ignorance. They laughed.
Great video. Really enjoyed it. It's been exciting to watch the car/team evolve over the last 3 years! I've been fortunate to see the M3 GT race at Petit Le Mans the last 2 years. Hope I can make it again this year. Go BMW Team RLL 2011!
Alonso had a good race indeed, but without the double blown diffuser mess I seriously doubt Ferrari would have won. Even with the handicap, a bad pitstop was needed to get Alonso to lead the race.
I'm tired of seeing rules changed and penalties handed out to the fastest and most innovative teams. Someone should really set up an open class series. Minimum of 4 wheels and a spec cage to keep things safe, then let the engineers loose with whatever they think is fastest.
Awesome show Leo. Listening to you thrash an M3 in the mountains brought back good memories of when I was lucky enough to track one myself. There really isn't anything like a BMW, and the only way for someone to figure that out is to drive one.
FLD crew has really steped up, taking the show to new level in recent times. I hate the adds on youtube well in general but understand why there are there so if I have to live thru two minutes of them I dont care as long as you produce great shows like this. whatever video encoder you're using, the compression is set WAY too high. it totally ruins the 5dmk2 footage. why buy a 5dmk2 if you're just going to ruin it with compression?
Great show, the m3 has been my favorite car since i saw it. I love every generation, from the E30-E92. In my opinion BMW has the right balance of power/handling/luxury. BMW will always be my favorite car brand, and I'm not just saying that because of the emblem.

Speachless... I have complimented Leo and the prodution team just about every week. If I didn't, it was because I forgot. But this episode takes the cake. I don't even know how to do this weeks show justice with words. All I can say is thank you.
At least Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin have the gearbox in the same place as the road car (as the rules require). The M3 has a waiver to use the transaxle. I understand why it's allowed to race, but I think no car that's not fully compliant with the regs should be allowed to dominate.

I'm no too sure about all the Alonso gushing. The error in the pits by Redbull was a big factor in his victory. The same goes for the fuel strategy implemented by McLaren that saw Hamilton having to concede positions to Alonso and Webber. Alonso was there to take advantage, yes, but McLaren's and Redbull's mistakes handed him the victory.
@southsideny I hear you, but will argue the pressure Alonso + Ferrari put ON the RBR AND McLaren teams, forced the fumbles. And the lap times for Alonso WERE very good, right? FA didn't back into being competitive. And did not the Alonso / Ferrari results - P2 in Valencia [right?] and P1 at Silverstone - say, "I'm still here, boys!" Difference-maker of the week, IMO. But, debate is applauded and that's what makes SD work. Thanks.

I'm a BIG Hamilton fan. Wish McLaren showed more discipline this year. They could've been closer and kept RedBull honest this season. Oh well, on to Germany!!
The BMW section of this FLD was way to long compared importance of the motorsports news. The brand new LM Mclaren GT3 is far... far more cooler than the M3 GT2, which is old news.

my question is, why are amateurs even allowed to race??. They get a permission to drive some of the fastest machinery in the world, in which you can do a crapload of damage if you have no idea what youre doing. You dont see them giving away F3 and GP2 licences left and right to those who have money, so why are they doing it in sportscar racing??

whatever video encoder you're using, the compression is set WAY too high. it totally ruins the 5dmk2 footage. why buy a 5dmk2 if you're just going to ruin it with compression?

Great show, the m3 has been my favorite car since i saw it. I love every generation, from the E30-E92. In my opinion BMW has the right balance of power/handling/luxury. BMW will always be my favorite car brand, and I'm not just saying that because of the emblem.

At least Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin have the gearbox in the same place as the road car (as the rules require). The M3 has a waiver to use the transaxle. I understand why it's allowed to race, but I think no car that's not fully compliant with the regs should be allowed to dominate.

I'm no too sure about all the Alonso gushing. The error in the pits by Redbull was a big factor in his victory. The same goes for the fuel strategy implemented by McLaren that saw Hamilton having to concede positions to Alonso and Webber. Alonso was there to take advantage, yes, but McLaren's and Redbull's mistakes handed him the victory.

@southsideny I hear you, but will argue the pressure Alonso + Ferrari put ON the RBR AND McLaren teams, forced the fumbles. And the lap times for Alonso WERE very good, right? FA didn't back into being competitive. And did not the Alonso / Ferrari results - P2 in Valencia [right?] and P1 at Silverstone - say, "I'm still here, boys!" Difference-maker of the week, IMO. But, debate is applauded and that's what makes SD work. Thanks.

@LeoParente I see your point. Ferrari has been steadily improving. But then again there are only 3 teams really racing up front this season. Ferrari wasn't going to fall to Mercedes and Renault Levels... lol
I'm a BIG Hamilton fan. Wish McLaren showed more discipline this year. They could've been closer and kept RedBull honest this season. Oh well, on to Germany!!

The BMW section of this FLD was way to long compared importance of the motorsports news. The brand new LM Mclaren GT3 is far... far more cooler than the M3 GT2, which is old news.
But Leo needs his check like the rest of us and using BMW to make cash money.
