It's almost perfect but it's a pity you play so loud at times. This waltz is supposed to make us feel the inexorable bittersweetness of life and relationships, not its violence! It's a great performance though, the best on youtube so far actually. Congrats for you are the only one who plays in tune till the last note (you are on the razor's edge at all times but you never fall) and this one's really tough.

Well, I downloaded the sheet music off of chamber hymns and tried to play it, and with less than a year of playtime, it's not going too well. My vibrato is terrible, and the slurs make me very sad. Oh well... maybe one day i'll figure out how to not suck and be as good as ben chan :P

Wow, I was tense the whole time watching that, I was so mesmerized! I was trying to figure out what positions you were using because I'm having a hard time switching back and forth, but I guess you have your own "style" haha...maybe I should try the whole first into third back into first and whatnot....When I get up to the high E part, it gets a bit harder and I don't want to play open E, but you did and it sounded great! Grrr, I JUST started learning this today, hopefully I'll figure it out!

at first i thought guitar was harder but when i started playing violin it was harder than piano and guitar!!violin is a two peice and is almost impossible to teach myself cause it has to be Perfect position and everything...also the fingering has to be memorized...people say cello is easier to play than violin too!

It does take some getting used to, yeah. I've adjusted my stance over the years and have finally found something that works well for me - everyone has a different body shape, so each individual should find what feels the most comfortable without hurting the actual violin playing aspect.

Actually, I intentionally left those shifting sounds in - it smooths out the phrases in most cases. Admittedly, there are a few I probably should've made silent, but otherwise it was a personal choice.
