If you're having trouble with the difficulty, the solution for every game isn't to play another game or turn down the difficulty... it's to keep trying to get better.
frames of animation were cut, noticeably with r.mika.
several themes are removed, yet the stages are still there.
several voices are identical. a prime example is ken and sakura. they made ken's voice higher pitched, removed sakura's, and gave them the same voice. as a result, sakura says "shoryuken" instead of "shououken", and simply says "hadouken" instead of "shinku haodouken" because ken had doesn't have a shinku hadouken sound clip.
SSF2TR- the akuma glitch. 1 perfect, 1 super finish, and no round losses lets you fight akuma in every version of super turbo, but the US version glitches when you fight akuma and makes all your high scores into various symbols, meaning you both lose your scores AND can't set new ones.
this game did NOT add the super bar to the bottom like you said. that was added in the arcade version of SSF2T released in like 1994.
for the GBC street fighter alpha is SURE entertaining but NO OTHER SF game can beat SF ALPHA III... not even street fighter II revival... PEREFCT PORT BASICALLY!!!
I much prefer street fighter alpha 3 on the psp, than the gba one, because the psp version one has everything improve, it's everything you want in a street fighter game.
Yeah the street fighter alpha on the gameboy color might be cool, but luckily capcom released street fighter alpha on the psp (playstation store) also street fighter alpha 2 and they're the same as home console and arcade ones. Hope the playstation store release more street fighter games. Nice review by the way.
by the way, I don't know what's wrong with the PSP D-PAD because I own it and didn't find anything wrong with it, for example I own Maverick Hunter X on the PSP, I got the Hadoken upgrade and everytime did the motion to try it out, it worked and I pulled it off every time.
It's a bit stiff in my opinion and it can hurt your hand when playing long sessions of Street Fighter. It seems Capcom knew this because some copies (preorder bonus?) of the PSP version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 came with a little add-on that went over the PSP D-Pad to make it more comfortable. That being said, if it doesn't bother you, then it is a very well made port of the original game with some decent extras.
Well, you know, the Street Fighter Alpha series aren't really a spin-off, actually it's a prequel to Street Fighter II, which means it happened right after Street Fighter 1, which makes sense to be honest.
The PSP version is the best, technically and content-wise. The D-Pad isn't bad, the little arrows just make it a bit uncomfortable in long sessions because they pierce in your thumb.
I can even play it on the PSP 1000 without major problems. And with the new 2000 and 3000 models, the D-Pad was risen and is more adequate. I may get one of those D-Pad covers soon though.
I looked at it and I can't seem to find anyway to delete the saved score. Other people seem to be complaining about this online too, so I think it may not be possible to start over. :(
dang i'm kinda annoyed. i recently bought street fighter on the game boy on amazon thinking it was street fighter 2 turbo revival. (the picture was the box art of turbo revival) it doesn't really seem like a big deal because it was only two dollars but i would rather have the gba one. i guess i'll get the gba one later at a gamestop or something. i'm sad! i really miss the "round one fight!" and the "hadoooken!" which the game boy one doesn't have. =(
PSP Version is Better than GBA Street fighter and PSP has Great Graphics and New Modes to Play! 2 on 1 Tag and my Favorite Character the New Member of SFA3 Ingrid(came out in capcom fighting jam)! Yeah PSP is the Way to Go but they should make it for DS so i Could Go Wifi! You think u can beat me PM and will see wuhahahahaha! I also Play Online Street Fighter aLPHA AND 3RD sTRIKE oNLINE aLOT nICE rEVIEW THOUGH!
well the street fighter alpha 3 psp version to me is actually best version. the d pad is horrible but u can still play well if ur used to the analog stick

I'm sorry but you are completely talking out of your arse when you say that the GBA version is better than the PSP version, espically considering that you haven't played it. You should never assume things about a game.
It's arcade perfect and there's nothing wrong with the d-pad. The only trouble I had was with full circle commands but even they're possible. Such an empty criticism.
God, I've mentioned the PSP three times in a row. No, I'm not a fanboy.
by the way on street fighter alpha 3 it is really dificult to pul out the special moves, I prefer street fighter 2 revival, anyone have the same problem?
as always great review man, even though this is my favorite fighting game on the gameboy color you mentioned every single thing that bothers me about it :P
I would have agreed with your comment about the PSPs d-pad before I upgraded mine to a new Slim, but they really really improved the d-pad with that release and playing fighting games like street fighter alpha 3 and tekken: dark resurrection is actually a joy now and really easy.

I don't really have that problem with the D-pad on my PSP, I don't know maybe I just got lucky or something.
marplatense2 3 years ago
I got both SF games. I would definitely say that turbo is better than Alpha.
Turbo's characters are more fun to play with as to in Alpha all the characters seem feel the same when you play them.
Also turbo's sound effects and musics are more original and better than ALpha.
But Alpha got fansier graphics thats for sure.

MadCircle01 3 years ago 2
NG Pocket is still the best console for fighting games on the run. The stick with the micro switches is simply unmatched!
Why can't somebody steal that idea?
I mean, the PSP digipad f.i. is a bad joke! Get micro switches!!! >:O

We really have Nintendo to thank for the graduation from 2 to 4 buttons from the Game Boy to the Game Boy Color and then to the Game Boy Advance.
They think of RPGs more than fighting games for their portables. Really stupid. And I see there is no combo meter for Street Fighter Alpha.
Street Fighter will NEVER feel right if any version is ever played with less than 6 buttons.

As always awesome review!
I have all of the SF Game Boy games with the exception of SFA (GBC). It always seems pretty cool, but after this review I definitely going to get it.
My favorite of the SF portable games are ranked as follows:
1. Turbo Revival
2. Alpha 3
3. SFII
mjkurtzman 4 years ago
great review. you should do the fire pro wrestling series for the gameboy advance sometime. again great review and keep up the great work.

I've been looking at them recently since the PS2 one came out. I'm probably going to do them some time in the future.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah I have the slim but I haven't played any fighting games on it yet. I did play some on my older PSP and it was murder on the thumbs.
I'll have to check it out on the new one. :)

Not to sound like a Sonyfag, but I think you should at least try the PSP version before deciding which one is better.

I have a psp and I've played Darkstalkers on it. It hurt my thumb a lot.
I know the psp has a few extra character and slightly better graphics, but I prefer the better dpad on the GBA.
I will play it eventually but I review all these game in one week. Give me a little break. lol
VideoGameTakeOut 4 years ago
The new PSP models have a much improved d-pad. It's now raised up higher so it makes playing fighters easier.
mjkurtzman 4 years ago
Seconded. The slim PSP d-pad makes a lot of games playable that weren't before, including the Gradius Collection.
Rabite890 4 years ago
Nice review, but one liiiiitle oversight.
The Street Fighter Alpha series isn't a spinoff of the main series. It's actually a prequel to the original Street Fighter.

I put them out Sunday night so people in other time zones can see them anytime Monday. Plus it takes about 3 hours for them to process and go up.
The one's that where up on Friday where because I had to be somewhere over the weekend and I wanted to be sure they where on time.
