  • Jim didn't emphasize "higher", but just sang it non chalantly in real life. Ed Sullivan usually shook all bands that played hands, but not the doors and told them they wouldn't ever be on his show again.

  • This is a good movie, but if you want eh facts than i would suggest When You're Strange, which is an actual documentary.

  • its just a word.

  • I just think of this as Val Kilmer singing The Doors songs :] Cause... Val Kilmers voice is gold. but, Jim's.... of course is better lol.

To everyone that is freaking out, i think Oliver Stone tried to sum up the initial act, or feeling that was going on at that moment. Try to be more open minded.

  • jakjakak con que es verdad que se le paro!

nena no podrias estar mas colocada? haajjahja que sexy es el ^^

  • Very good movie some parts not happen but good

  • american movies suck they fucked up the doors

  • In all the bad reviews of the Movie Oliver Stone did, I don't what everybody don't like. The movie was fun and I watched it all the way through and gained more perspective than I had before. Val Kilmer brought Jim Morrison up close and personal. I know the exaggerations and ignore them. This movie was about a rock star and covered it well. I like the spiritual aspects of this movie. Jim Morrison was a God!!! And a prophet.

  • I don't really like the movie all together, but Oliver Stone did a VERY good job casting Jim Morrison, 'cause he looks like him, and sounds like him.

  • Val Kilmer did a good job with his singing, at first I thought he was just lip syncing to it but apparently he wasn't

  • Yea I mean to nail the exact way everything happened? It would have been impossible. Sure they "hollywoodenized" some of the history but all in all? It wan't a horrible job.

  • c'mon guys it's just a movie, of course they exaggerate it, to make it more dramatic, i know that most of the doors hard core fans don't like this movie, so then read the book! that's what patricia kennealy said in the dvd bonus feature!

  • I hate this movie. So much in it is either not true, or VERY exaggerated (such as when the movie version of Jim lunged at the camera saying "higher"... whereas the real thing, Jim barely even said the damn word).

  • And who said Val Kilmer looks EXACTLY like Jim Morrison must be blind or something.

  • Damn this movie sucks. Just compare with the actual footage. Oliver Stone is a joke.

  • This movie is a GROSS exxageration.

  • look bro, im sure you know that in the real vid, he said higher twice, once is a mistake, but twice is just retarded to say it, jim is a rebel, and just cause ur god ray wanted to defend the image of the doors, it doesn't mean that jim didn't purposely wanna say it, but don't get me wrong, i love ray, he just did what he had to do to keep his image up, and stones depiction of the movie, although very inaccurate had some truth to it

  • I never said Jim accidently said it :D, Ray said and John, and Robbie, said that they never planned on changing it, that was just their excuse, was he got 'nervous.' I simply said that the movie was a horrible exxageration, IT fucking SUCKED, as a matter of fact, Kilmer, and Machlachlan (Who played Ray and Jim) Didn't like the movies themselves, it was said in Ray and John's autobiographies about THe Doors.

  • of course they didn't like it, they just did it for the money, this is what probably happened, stone was a big fan of the doors, and he was all hyped to make the film, but sometime in between the writing of the script and the making of the movie, stone probably realized that the doors 4 1/2 year career wasn't as exciting as he remembered it was so he had to make the movie exaggerated for entertainment value to appeal to viewers who wouldnt be lost in the music, he made a popcorn movie

    fuck stone

  • @alexsmokin Oliver stone is a DICK.

  • I absolutely agree with everything you've just written.

  • Hey, thanks dude, yeah, if a better script were written, Kilmer would have still been a pretty nice fit for Morrison.

  • seriously. WOW!!!

  • What haha. As a matter of fact tho, IF The script were written accurately, I think Kilmer would have been an amazing cast for Morrison, that guy does look ALOT like him, even in other movie's.

  • hahahahahahah

  • Heres my take on it... I did not like the movie on how it was sssssooooo inaccurate and made Jim Morrison look like a HORRIBLE drug addict depressed alcoholic, and why call it The DOORS? When none of the other DOORS WHERE HARDLY IN IT? But I Did think that Kilmer was a good choice for Morrison, (even tho he DESTROYED the Crystal Ship and Not To Touch the Earth)

  • Val Kilmer is a pathetic caricature... not even dead and rotten in his grave, Jim was horrible as Kilmer.

Oliver Stone is only a poor miserable man...

  • you're a negative prick

  • You are a fool if you like the shitty lies by Val Kilmer and Oliver Stone... Jim would vomit on them.

  • i agree the movie was very different from how Jim really was. I misunderstood you...you said Jim was horrible, I guess you meant to say val was horrible. He kind of looked like him in the Miami scene but that's about it

  • No man in the world ever looked or will ever look like Jim. With beard, rough hair and glasses, tons of men look like Jim when he was decadent. I saw tons of men more similar to Jim than how Val was. If you compare Jim in Joel Brodsky's pictures (of September 1967 as the Young Lion), to Val Kilmer's version, Val will look as beautiful as Danny De Vito or Woody Allen if compared to Morrison... Val is a just normal man, Jim was a god.... while Oliver Stone is a only pretentious turf and liar.

  • Agree with you on the morrison part but hollywood is Hollywood. Hard to sum up a persons life (especially Morrisons) in 2 hours. I read three bios on Jim and there is soooo much shit in there it would take hours of film to do him any justice. Oliver Stone does have some great movies and even though Ray was disappointed how Stone portrayed Jim, he must realize that it is only Hollywood. Anyone with a brain must know that a movie bio can't possibly be an accurate account of a persons life!

  • Man, it's 22 years that I love The Doors, I read every existing book in every language about them, I am a collector of legendary bootlegs, tapes, books, fanzines, etc. ...I met Robby, Ray, John, Frank Lisciandro and many others closed to Jim... and all of them told me the same: Stone is only a liar and he perfectly knows that he is telling only lies.

A failed attempt to be accurated is one thing; to tell lies in a conscious way means to be a motherfucker, just like Stone.

  • put a sock on it..

val looks exactly like jim in this movie..stop analyzing and enjoy this masterpiece of a movie

  • Buy yourself a nice pair of goggles... and enjoy "this mastershit of a movie"...

  • This cheap imitation I'd like to add.

Hollywood only shows us the 'truth' that will make them line their pockets with money from the hopeless masses.

  • And remember whoever does waste their time clicking the thumbs down button on the comments of any critique is just on their payroll.

  • what are you kidding me? val kilmer was incredible in that movie. regardless of how the story was told or portrayed morrison (writing & directing), kilmers acting was amazing. he should have got a oscar nod for it but ive heard hes difficult to work with. but please learn about acting before you start talking trash.

  • Please learn about cartoons: Val Kilmer is a parody of Jim, a cartoon, a caricature.

  • hahaha nice one moron. its called acting. he was portraying the life of another as his own. what made his performance so good was that it had a life of its own. he very successfully lived in that characted & even made it look easy. it was far from a cartoon or caricature. if you want that, watch jamie foxx as ray charles or dennis quaid as jerry lee lewis. those are more of an impression or cartoon, as you called it, and qualifies as poor acting.

  • Your right prickie, Val was a perfect interpreter of himself, starring an idiot that acts like a dumbass....

  • hahahahahaha wow....nice retort....youve presented no valid argument and have only stated your own unintelligent opinion based on no evidence. but you have instead made yourself look like a "dumbass" (to use your highly educated word). please save everyone, including yourself, the trouble & stop talking. thank you.

  • Dear prickie boyfriend of Val... It's Ray, Robby, John, Frank, Bruce and many others that met and lived with Jim that say that Val is a pathetic distorted projection of Jim... it's not me, don't cry baby, Val loves you anyway.... even Joe Russo and Dave Brock are better than Val if you want some ridicolous clones of Jim.

  • ah yes, once again displaying why all of your comments have been getting thumbs down.

  • Yes, I don't like an exaggeration of a man that totally misunderstands the staure of a genius like Jim. And Jim's friends don't like Val either... You should see how many thumbs down got Oliver and Val from people that really understand Jim...

  • again, all of this has nothing to do with kilmers performance. he was acting within the confines created by the script & the world of the movie. if you want to blame stone & jahnson for how they wrote the character and in turn portrayed morrison thats completely valid--and im not arguing that point. im simply saying that WITHIN THE STRUCTURE OF THE MOVIE SURROUNDING HIM, kilmers acting was fantastic.

  • Val doesn't understand Jim. Val is Val that rewrites the stature and figure of Jim in a clownesque way. It is not just a matter of Stone and Jahnson, it's Val. From his eyes you see that when he studied Jim he totally misunderstood the man and the myth too. Yes, within the movie's structure Val is fantastic exactly because he is an exaggerated parody inside an exaggeration caricature of a movie. Not to meantion that Val was not handsome enough to hope to get close to the Adon called Jim.

  • That Kilmer sounds alot like Morrison tho. But only during Light My Fire and Break On Through, all the others he sounds kinda... horrible.

  • stupid oliver stone..

  • STOP with copyright. i wanna see the real one!!

  • And WTF was up with the penis bit?

  • Oliver Stone is an asshole! Who else is with me? He fucked up The Doors, and insulted Jim Morrison! Though I do give him some credit for casting Kilmer... the guy looks and sounds just like Jim.

  • I agree. If you read the Doors biography Light My Fire, it says that Jim was more of a subtle poet. If at all obnoxious or chaotic, it was because of alcohol or otherwise.

  • @JokaNapier i agree. most of the movie was pretty good but jim deff didnt have an attitude like that, and he skipped soooooo many other parts of their career not a bad movie tho i guess deff could have been better

  • This is so stupid!

    "HIGHERRR!" *gets on camera*

    what the hell? -_-

  • wasnt even like that in real life.

  • JAJAJA This shit is so funny, there weren't explosions and smoke, if you watch the real vid, there weren't those big letters "THE DOORS" hanging from the ceiling, the lighting here is a kinda dramatic and as most of you have noticed, Jim didn't say "much higher" with that tone; and finally, the worst mistake, how dare they use the studio version of LMF??? it doesn't sound realisitic for a live show, they should have used a live track of the song at least.

    An entertaining movie anyway

  • @GeankDOORS I must agree with almost all you said but if you watch the original performance again you could notice that Jim screamed that part full of energy.

  • Also they never had one close up of his crotch on the real version of wat happened

  • he didnt say the lyrics like that he said it verey calm and mellow he didnt even relieze he made the mistake this was way to dramtic

  • like how morrison (if this is true) dismisses the stones. thats what differentiated the doors from others in the indust... has crazy as morrison could be, you cant deny that the man had the balls to stick to his guns.. he did this thru & thru in his career. though he & his dad had differences, he probaly got that balls to the wall courage from his pops military background. jim is missed.

  • yo I saw this movie last night, mad good

  • thats not even how it went down get it right

  • I LOVE the Doors but this movie was nothing but an inaccurate piece of Hollywood crap. The other guys in the Doors thought it was a joke of a movie.

  • Sydney Manzarek

    irving Manzarek

  • heyyyy jimmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

  • girl, you could'nt bite my wire

  • haha. girl we couldnt get much HIGHER!

  • dude that is badass.....

  • The movie makes you wonder what would have happened if he actually ran up to the camera and emphasized the word. It's symbolic, not dead on accurate.

  • yea, i have the actual performance video downloaded and he doesntdo that at all. He just stands there and sinhs it normally.

  • HELLO!!!! this is from the movie!!!

  • yea i agree wit lukeashmoore

  • Well yes jim didnt go right up t the camera in real life, but then could you imagine what it would have been like if he just said it normally? Stone was trying to show us how the word really affected people, its just a representation of how it might feel in the prudish people's mind. I was expecting to hate this film, really, but Val freaking won me over in the end. great performance of a great band. yes the film had its faults but then drama onscreen is still drama so it needs to be heightened

  • I agree.. also good performance and acting from Val.

  • in reality Jim didn't go right up to the camera like Val portrayed. Though I loved this movie, I think it was over-done with the antics just for entertainment's sake.

  • in reality Val didnt do a lot of things Jim did in real life. on the other filmed performance jim licks his lips at one point. i didnt see val do that. yes the diference between lip licking and shouting at the camera is substantial, but read the other post of mine on here.

  • Jim said that he accidentally sung the line because he was so nervous and he didn't go right up to the camera like that at all. I have never seen him do that in any performance.

  • yeah he actually didn't say it loud to the camera like that. he sung it normally. this just makes him look arrogant when Jim just wanted to sing the song like it was suppose to be sung!

  • that was so funny when he said higher really loud in the cameras face

  • Thats awesome. jim was awesome

  • yours sucks, from Argentina i said "touch me baby"

  • yes and no. I think oliver stone kind of exagerated. I saw the real video Jim didn't scream higher to the camera or put his thing in front of the camera

  • che rolling q mierda dicen estoy giles, jeje!!

  • This movie SUCKS! Oliver Stone is a scumbag. Watch the real video of the Ed Sullivan performance.

  • i totally agree this movie really sucks its far from what jim was !
