is there anyway to fish for muskie with lighter gear? or does the trolling require you to use such heavy rods reels and lines? id like to catch one on my 10ft rod with 8lb test. is this reasonable?
@stillrob420 ive seen large muskie caught on a pole with either 4 or 6ib test. it was't trolling though. i would not really recommend it. im not an expert but i do know that line is definetly pushing it. it also depends on the size of the fish. using lighter line can add to the fun and challenge of having to fight the fish a little more but also it sucks when you loose a big one because your line breaks...anyone can correct me if im wrong because im no expert but i have decent fishing experience
A 10ft rod with 8 lb line is reasonable. It's all about how you want to fish, if you want to get a sure hookset and rope fish in all day, go with some heavy tackle (baitcast, stiff rod w/ lots of guides) and you'll probably land more. I use a spinning reel, 7 foot rod w/ 12 lb line, just not a fan of baitcasts. With my buddy one day when he caught two 30" plus tiger muskie on an ultralight spinning set up w/ 6 lb line. I once caught a 13 1/2 lb chinook salmon on 6 lb line with a 6 foot rod.
Uhmmmm... women are like muskies?!?! These are some awesome videos Kev... I wish I could take some time off to go out on the lake with you for a day. Those are some mammoth size fish!!!!
I been fishing for Muskie in Lake St. Clair since 1970 and I'm going to tell you how to do it cheap. First way is to do it in November off the docks, wait till the wind is calm for 2 days so the sedement settles. Get a 8 inch yellow perch lure and start casting form land. A fish caled a shad come into the rivers and streams for the winter and the Muskie follow them in to feed. Belle River is very good spot to do this. You can do it till ice over. No boat required, bring a big net:-))
any body know what this cost??i keep getting different stories when im sitting in the bar.loved to try it but only want to spend like 150 x 5 of my buddies. 3-4 hours sounds fair charter can do to charts a day
Nice video hope to do some Muskie fishing on Lake St.Clair myself this summer.
