24 out of 25 of the most industrialsed nations have Universal Health Care. It is far far cheaper to adminster and means that every sick person is treated. I have to say that we in Britain found it highly amusing to see people marching in Washington demanding NOT to have free health care.

The problem is not "free health care". There is no such thing. The problem is requiring everyone to pay for something YOU don't want. I have spent my life living and eating healthy so that I don't get sick. I have not been sick in 10 years. The health bill that is being proposed in Washington means that I and every person who spends their own hard earned money to not get sick and not need to pay for healthcare, now have to pay for the healthcare of all those who have taken no such responsability

The problem is government involvement in health care (through the tax system giving incentives towards an employer-based insurance system, the FDA, etc.). Whether it is the FDA suppression of natural prevention and cures or the promotion of Pharma "medicine", it is clear that the solution is not going to come from the government, and if they get involved even more than they are now, they only stand to make things worse.

This is full of more demands for bans, requirements and government regulation than we have now!! Just different ones. More bureaucratic intervention on his terms. The proper way to eat and the need for exercise has been drummed into us already---we've heard it all our lives. It's not new---many of us just ignore it. How can you make people do it?. As to mandatory vaccines, how many of us would have gotten polio, smallpox, etc., if they hadn't been mandatory.

Universal Health care is not a good. Idea. There is no need for it. The number on uninsured is not 47 million, which is an NBC news lie. NBC news has completely overblown this story. The evidence is squired. Plus, even if there was a crisis, government controlled healthcare would be a disastrious plan.

It's up to the individual what they eat. Here we go again with 'It's not MY responsibility to watch what I" -eat, in this case. Are you going to outlaw Mickey D's? Or force restaurants to serve less food? Force them to serve healthier food? How about only patronizing places that serve 'healthy' food? And what's this about supplements? Can't you eat healthy food and get ALL the nutrients you need? Must not be a healthy diet if you aren't. Foods are drugs too, if you're sick eat the right ones.

Mike, I love you and I know your heart is in the right place on this, but I can't agree with everything in the petition. I'm all for less FDA control, but stuff like banning junk food commercials during certain hours to protect kids is something I don't agree with. The government cannot be the nanny of our children, and more government regulation is not the answer, we need less government intervention and regulation and more freedom. Parents need to regulate their own children.

Even if you don't agree with it all, this petition is so unique and important, in that it protects us from CODEX Alimentarius, that I would encourage you to sign it anyway. This will actually have the backing it needs to stop it. Having no junk food commercials will be of little consequence if 3 billion people die of malnutrition and starvation - which is what they project will happen when it goes into effect.

Clearly you don't have children or you would realize that once they start to leave your side (e.g. attend school, which they do at age 3 now) - it is the culture that influences them and more so with each passing year. Discuss this with immigrants and First Nations and other minorities to fully appreciate the issue.

I believe you are correct, however, in politics the best method is to present more than will likely be accepted. This is a well-considered strategic method for proposal making. For example, if you have only four proposals in a statement, then usually only 1/4 will be accepted at most. There is also no guarantee that the details will be worked in the spirit of the petition. But if you have 50 items then more are likely to be accepted; also the spirit of the petition is much harder to ignore.

Y'know I think the longer I live, the more I'm being lied to. Although there are honest people out there, you'll have to be good at discerning them from the liars by not accepting a claim solely due to popularity. Too bad critical thinking and self-discipline (ie learn to endure minor punishments to protect yourself from the major ones) aren't made a value because it would undermine any authority: schools, parents, etc. Thanks for the video.

thx 4 the quick response! personal responsibility would take precedent again. a free market computes what is really 'good' and 'bad' in the food supply and not someone/some agency deeming it good/bad by their own decree. i agree and wish that msg and hfcs and transfat would disappear but the reality is it won't until the demand dies. btw i turned my diet around with your help from your site! keep up the great work over there! you're a better fda than the fda is!

dear health ranger...big fan here but the fda needs to be gotten rid of. it creates a moral hazard- its us as citizens outsourcing responsibility to a bureaucracy that is part of our health problems as a nation. people don't think enough before they buy food because they think that because a food/drug has been given the OK, it is ok to consume. if we really care about people, we should get rid of the fda. banning things doesn't end up helping (see: prohibition)

I agree with you in principle on banning the FDA, but what would go in its place? This petition attempts to find a balance between what we really want vs. what might be somewhat possible to accomplish in Washington D.C. these days. It's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction. - Mike
