  • Six people need their heads examined.

  • I think if SRV were alive and cared to read all these silly "comment" posts, he would be irritated that many of the the posts that simply praise Hendrix have been censored as spam. Hendrix and Stevie Ray are one person...right? at least to me they're like one person ...

I wonder... if youtube was around in the 60's would the argument be who played this song better, Hendrix's version or Albert Collins version.. it would have been speeded up rock vs. the older and slower chicago blues style.

  • love this.live music is a dying art.music soothes the savage beast, even the banjo playing haggis and my friend pavaratty, who is the coolest rat that ever was.

  • Go Stevie! Sounds awesome. I'd love to watch this man perform live, now. Not just for myself, but for all SRV fans. Especially if you've never seen him live (like me), I'd gladly be 20 years older right now, to hear Stevie play on stage, pouring sweat, and smiling. Just once.

  • @landonrob

Why would Stevie copy "feel"? He had truckloads of it

  • This song was Stevie's way of saying to the posers "Top that, bitch!"

  • i seen him at his last concert. it rocked so much. I was so sad to wake up the next morning ,very hung over.turned on the news and heard hsi helicopter had crashed ino the ski hill.,heck we were still in the parking lot when it happened. i thought i seen a flash but it was very foggy and i assumed it was heat lightening. but yeah i had a great night then a major let down the next day.thanks for the post. i never knew srv recorded this

  • As long as I've been listening to SRV, this is the first time I've heard this, thankfully! That's what I'm talking about.

  • Never Heard this one Before, Great Jam, SRV was bad wasn't he?

  • Glad I found this, holy shit. Now I have to find my brains.

  • @tigerstyle711 Im rolling on the floor laughing lmao

  • OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH MMMMYYYYYY GAAAAAHHHHDDDDD

  • Damn!!

  • He performed this 3 days before I was born. No wonder I hurried so much to this world to hear him. :)

  • just listen and be nice to each other, life's too short

  • nice to see theres so many experts in there choosen field of guitar slingers that died way before their time for 80 points. Just wish that i had chance 2 see him when he was in n.z. was bit to young.

  • fucken sick i havn't heard stevies cut of this, jimi would dig it for sure, come to think of it they're probably jammin right now, with john lee hooker backing up robert johnson on vocals

  • @DanielGrozier

Not unless they all made Jesus Christ Lord of their lives BEFORE they died. Otherwise, they're suffering in hell right now. No way out of that place, man. Get right with God before you die. It's too late after. Peace.

  • @edadan2009 you can get out of hell if youve got a fire extinguisher and a 357 fully loaded just for fun.shit i bit the devils head off and then shot god so dont give me that bible bashing stuff.god mad atheists too so hes just as fucked up as the rest wouldntchasaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyysssssssssssssssssss.

  • @rickengineer66 dude...you're high. You call yourself an atheist and then say God made atheists too? God gives you the gift of choice. He didn't make you atheist anymore than He made me Christian. It's a choice. What the hell does this have to do with the video?

  • @edadan2009 Very funny. Now how are you sure that you don't need to get right with Allah, or Zeus, or that just maybe there's no God to get right with?

The one question religious people never have a good answer to is "How do you know"?

  • @polymath7 For atheists like you, how do you know monkey boy?

  • wow ! That's great !

  • This picture is great!

  • You know what? I LOVE Jimmy...........But I have come to despise his fans.

Thank you for the mountains of love you shared with us Stevie.

And pity on the poor souls who cant partake.

  • @PBGSURFER65 ??????????????

  • @jeffv2bfree Hey, don't despise me. I love both, and I'm happy to accept that they are greats in their own very ways...

  • Comment removed

  • This is a dandy little tune!

  • It's all opinions people! In my opinion Stevie was a more precise, articulate and controlled than jimi was! Don't get me wrong theres only one Jimi and only one Stevie and they are both awesome but when it comes to the ears you can hear the difference big time between the two! Stevie's playing is very smooth flowing with very little to no mistakes where as Jimi sounded almost as if he was wresteling the guitar and in his own words "If I hit the wrong note i just bend the string until I get it"

  • @redmansounds

A huge splash of hendrix worshiping, a lot of wishful thinking and very little truth in your analysis of SRV. Save yourself further embarrassment and stop talking about the man. You're simply clueless...

As for the "black men", they get all the credit they deserve. Maybe you've missed to notice due to pitiable ignorance

  • Comment removed

  • @redmansounds

That's not a fact; that's an ill-informed and very wishful opinion. I bet you know very well that Hendrix was not the major factor in SRV's musical evolvement. But then... maybe you don’t know. I know you wish he was...but he wasn't. If only people knowing nothing about SRV would stop talking about him and stick with their guru

  • fkin' EPIC~

  • It's easy to forget, today more than ever, that true music is just a person with a piece of wood in their hands and whole lotta hearth and soul.

  • shut up hippies and just listen to hendrix and SRV, that's what music is for you cunts

  • @hardkace42

Except on the aspect of guitar playing

  • God given talents made Jimi And Stevie what they were and they were taken back too soon, Leaving all of us pathetic mortals to sort it all out. Who is the best depends on which way the wind is blowing and what time it is. At any given moment it can be either and I am ok with it. Clearly Stevie was a channel for the blues as was Jimi. The proverbial question may never be answered. Humility made them both, and humility is what we are left with when listening to this masterful music.

  • Stupid comparing Hendrix and Stevie - it's like comparing colours in a rainbow. Just appreciate the fkn rainbow - ok? Why miss the beauty of a rainbow over some stupid pissin' match that doesn't matter anyway. Hendrix and Stevie are jammin' right now on the other side, just going nuts, fkn smiling and sharin' spliffs. Ain't no competition in music, just different unique sounds. Understand?

  • @webcityguy Just my 2 cents, but we all have guitar mentors......IF YOU PLAY THAT IS.....Jimmy was one of his many....thats all. He actually had many, some more than others if you get my meanin. I'm 43 YO, I wasnt into him untill my 30's. ...I only wish I could've seen him.....peace!

  • How many different pages on youtube have to argue who is the best? Its 100% suggestive.

Give me one reason why any of us have the status to Grade guitarists...Especially when were talking about legends.

  • I read that someone once asked Stevie how could they learn to play as good as him ? And he told them to lay on there bed and practice playing for 40 years!

Some how I dont think that 40 years would be long enough. This must have been supernatural talent straight from GOD! I've been playing for 25 years and I cant even come close .

  • What a treat. Pure genius. Too bad so many people keep trying to make comparisons between Jimi and Stevie. Not everything in life is about wearing a crown or being the best, or number 1. Jimi and Stevie were priceless gems...They have nothing to prove they don't need to be placed in some sort of order. We just need to be thankful these guys left us with such a vast array of beautiful music.

  • Deep, Dangerous- Insired, Introspective - Painfully Expressive... Genuine- Simply Divine.. Words Pale for Expression There will never be another- Thank you for everything you gave us Stevie..

  • @jpgrnluv1234

Stevie didn’t have idols; only musicians he loved a lot (Chris Layton’s words). And assuming Hendrix would say something like "I am better" is insulting; can't believe the guy would be such a mindless prick

  • Stevie had the funk, the original is great and so is this.

  • @Jessrama Vaughan plays Hendrix BETTER than Hendrix and THAT says all..

  • @RastafariPoet I was going to defend my comment but after visiting your channel I see why you posted up what you did.."Thumbs up" for your passion.." thumbs down" for your humbleness.

  • @RastafariPoet Oh by the way..watch SRV play "Rood Mood". When I see a video of Hendrix playing SMOKING fast licks like that, I'll eat my hat. Don't get me wrong, MUCH respect to Hendrix, but as far as pure soul goes..nobody is YET to be as good as Vaughan.

  • I Wonder why this never made the cut onto an album??? Damn!! Blistering fretwork!!!

Stevie was the best. Sensitive and ferocious guitar work!

  • Stevie and hendrix would have been best friend's.

  • @guitarprism ....They are now. :-)

  • @crazyhorseguy You are correct sir!

  • This is an old Albert Collins song called 'Thaw Out' as far as I know...I'm sure SRV was aware of this...there was a bootleg record(late 70's) of Hendrix doing it at the BBC and also some early label he was on...on the earliest version Hendrix keeps real close to Albert Collins's version...SRV is closer to the Hendrix BBC version...Hendrix probably learned the song first hand from Collins or off the original Collins record....They are all fuckin' great!....Michael Katon

  • Would you Lop one off to play this good? I know I would!!

  • Superb. Wish I knew about music like this in 1983

  • sounds like Stevie got into a fight with the guitar and just kicked its ass all over the place!!

  • @KasparWise i think picture was from that fight you're talking about. you can see ray vaughan grab the neck and teacher it some manners

  • Comment removed

  • In the 80's I was gushing about SRV when someone said they preferred Jimmy Vaughan because Stevie always sounded like he was playing everything he knew.

    I replied "That's the point."

  • Stevie ray vaughan the cure for erectile dysfunction.

  • all i can say is You guys are so phookin lucky to have these to guys in your backyard and other greats....Damn!! This is where blues, rock n Roll..jazz was born.

Come to where i live..if owning a gun isnt agaisnt the law...i would've killed myself long ago to listen to Stevie,Jimi,Jaco..live!

  • @hesmon

I personally find SRV to be much more expressive than Jimi.Technicaly and tonaly,Hendrix is an icon (hats off),but sorry my friend, after 25y of guitar playing I honestly think so.

  • srv. freakin awesome. he is the man,i love johnny lang, but he is no srv. rip srv

  • It's all over......I give up ....

For sale: one Sunburst Strat, one Fender amp....

    Free to a good home.

  • @jhstony Don't sweat it nigger Im taking up the kazoo and putting on a tuxedo and cutting off my hair after hearing this one.

  • @jhstony dude ill totally take you up on that lol!!!

  • while all the guitar professors and self proclaimed guitar experts argure about comparisons of Hendrix and Vaughn, iam just gonna sit back and listen to Guitar Hurricane, Mr. Vaughn, tear it up. good luck with the arguments. let me know how it comes out!

  • a god at work.

  • SRV- THE REAL DEAL. SRV was the living proof that Jimi did not stand up next to the mountain and chop it down in vain.

  • Why bother who's better than the other? it's not a race, music is down to personal preference. Personally I prefer Stevie he's the man for me, but I respect others with different tastes.

  • absolutely unbelievable!!!!

  • EVERYBODY STOP ARGUING... TRY THIS.

PUT PLAY, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TRY TO IMAGINE A LIVING SCENE OF STEVIE AND JIMI PLAYING TOGETHER, ON THE SAME STAGE, AT THE SAME TIME. JUST PASSING THE "BALL" ONE TO ANOTHER FOR THEIR OWN SOLOS... COMPETING IN A GOOD WAY... SLAPING EACH OTHER WITH ONLY BUT RIFFS,, FACING EACH OTHER WHILE PLAYING AN UNBELIEVEABLE SOLO... THAT WOULD BE THE GUITAR CLIMAX.... THIS IS BETTER THAN KEEP PULLING HAIR...

  • Anyone got tabs ???

    JK !!!! :D

  • I cant think of too many grooves better than this. If there is, someone PLEASE let me know.

  • You gotta love this, nothing but smiles

  • i feel sorry for the 4 people that dont like this

  • nice to hear something new from Stevie. Is the pic from that same gig?

  • I literally heard a riff that i have never heard before and He only played it for a moment. You guys should just accept that the top of the mountain is shared by Jimi and Stevie Ray, no one else can play like them ... No one

  • I wish that I could see him play this. Watching him is nearly as enjoyable as hearing him. There is some thing you miss by not seeing the emotion as well as hearing it. And now I'm finding myself wishing I could have been there in person. We miss you Stevie!

  • Thank God someone recorded it....& thanks for Posting!!!!!

  • such a good quality recording.....I want it!

  • @chrisgpix you can get it if you like. I do it all the time. Just convert the youtube video into an mp3. google "youtube to mp3" and you will get about ten different sites that all do it for free. Takes like ten seconds, you just type in the web address in this case

  • there's good playing, and there's great playing, and then there's this: Phrasing that makes the best electric guitarists who ever lived say "god damn that boy can play"

  • @joelrayhensley So do I; Is there anyone who couldn't?

  • Holy mother of god! To borrow someone else's post - I just had an eargasm!!!!!

  • 40 seconds in and i already blew my load. SO SO SO GOOD!

  • @SoundScoundrel

    ROFL!

  • he COOKS the shit out of this song. i dont care what anyone says!

  • Comment removed

  • @nuoliukko and you lack education

  • snarl for the camera

  • i Hear nothing but Hendrix's spirit in this--Stevie was that good to sound like himself--everyone lifts licks--

  • If Vaughan's not the finest electric guitarist that ever lived, it had better be a damned short list before we get to his name. _That_ was ferocious.

  • @scottcampbell1958 Other people might have wrote it but Steve shows them how to play it.

  • @scottcampbell1958 there's a separate list for Stevie.

  • @RastafariPoet

    Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • @sandiegoled13

    Childish

  • @sandiegoled13

Save it. Nothing is as clueless as a Hendrix freak.

    Law of Nature

  • @sandiegoled13

No matter how innovative and creative Hendrix was, he neither invented nor pioneered rock guitar. Enhance your knowledge first and than embark on pompous statements. Stevie's main influences came from the blues because he wanted to play the blues and stuck mainly to it; he said it so many times and most people are well aware of it. Your ignorance is truly surprising and makes further arguments pointless

  • @kickass5

There's always someone who’s first at something and still evolvement never depends on one single person. The point of the guy was that "Hendrix was better". To be “first” doesn't make you "better", whatever that means. Not to mention that Hendrix by far wasn't the first at everything attributed to him; he rather was the first to bring it to the attention of rock fans in the most spectacular way and thus make it popular

  • Comment removed

  • Such Raw Power! Such a Heavy sound!!

  • I don't like to compare guitarists. SRV and Hendrix were both GREAT guitarists.

  • i couldnt get mad when my lady accidently called out his name during sex the other night.

I was actually kinda proud of her.....

  • Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • I think you are right but it is not a sin to compare them. They both had a physical and God gifted ability to play the guitar. But it is great to hear Jimi's R&B influence and Stevie's Texas influence on the same song. It is a shame Jimi did not live to be able jam with Stevie...cause it would have happened> I guess we have to wait and hope to get a good seat in that big concert up in the sky :)

  • Sorry, my previous post was not meant for you

  • You're right xbox1980.

  • Robbed is a pretty hard word to use. Stevie was influenced by Jimi, but c'mon, robbed him? Hahaha... Stevie never robbed anybody. Jimi was just one of many great guys that influenced Stevie, of course one of his biggest and most famous influences, but Stevie had many other influences as well, just like Jimi before him, etc... Stevie was never a big songwritter, although a bit underrated there, but as a guitar player and a singer he is one of a kind, unique and totally in his own league!

  • You sound like the ultimate Hendrix fan that has never heard anything from SRV but a couple of Hendrix songs. Hendrix didn't "make" Stevie, and Stevie didn't "rob" Hendrix; Stevie did what every younger generation ever does: learned, emulated and added. Neither was Hendrix his biggest or sole influence; maybe you should listen to some of Stevie's blues because that's what he was first and foremost a BLUES player. Unlike Hendrix. Comparing the two is as moronic as every comparison of artists

  • By saying that you are practically denying the existence of 60s rock because you'll have to call the Rolling Stones, the Animals, Led Zeppelin, Cream etc. blues bands. Actually, the whole emerging, flowering and kind of revolutionary rock scene was heavily blues influenced. Even acts like the Who and Deep Purple had blues sound now and than. Hendrix was a rock guitarist; that's how he's been always defined. Call him "psychedelic" instead; that was a quite fashionable trend in those years

  • Hendrix has been defined as 60s rock guitar player not by the masses who rarely occupy themselves with defining musicians but rather by music critics, historians, biographers etc. And blues phrasing still doesn't make him a first and foremost blues player. From what I know you are one of those who firmly believe that "without Jimi there would be no Stevie" and that "Jimi is way better of course". On both counts I disagree but after all variety of opinions is the "spice of life"

  • I think arguing about who is the better guitarist is missing the point somewhat. Enjoy the wonderful music, that's what it's there for.

  • just a walk in the park for this master

  • Great!
