My point was that I couldn't distinguish between canned laughter and live laughter because all the laughs feel forced and lifeless. Might as well be canned laughter if all the live laughs sound as if they're being prodded from the audience by a big "LAUGH NOW" sign.

I've been part of a studio audience before and, with the help of a warm-up act, the audience were recorded doing several different 'types' of laugh before the show started because when they have to do a re-take after the punchline has been delivered obviously it isn't as funny the second time around.
