How extraordinary to discover this rare piece here. And how appropriate a title. It is Bitter Sweet to hear this star couple whose careers were cut short and sent into exile due to the Nazi era. The Austro/Hungarian Empire that bore these children and The Vienna that nurtured such talent was gone never to return. There were no digital video or cd/dvd so what remains after a continent shattered by war is priceless. Thank you.
Through my beloved mother I heard much about these artists but never heard their marvelous voices. Thank you for bringing this treat to me in my autumn years. Only wish my mother could enjoy it too. She grew up in Vienna while I only spent my first eight years there.
This is great! How well your Father recorded the broadcast and how well you have stored it. Now, we listeners are the richer because of the care taken by both of you, and through your generous sharing.
@jurek46pink I reciprocate very cordially your kind message. Your channel and that of your esteemed colleague, parlophonman, contain many of the brightest gems of the Youtube treasury.
This is rare and is incredible in sound from tape. Jan Kiepura career spannned mainly through the two wars in Vienna, Berlin, the Met and Chicago. Thank you for posting this rare and important document Jurek. Paul.
Well there... your dad's Tonette turned out to be a magnificent device indeed! The sound's wonderful for an aircheck of that age. I don't get any of the jokes, but I enjoyed very much listening to Kiepura's speking voice. Thank you so much

An interesting piece of musical history and a cute story about the preserved recording. My old tape recorder never sounded so well!

Jak tu napisałem D. , mówiono, ze Kiepura przybył wówczas całkowicie
przeziębiony i miał problemy z głosem
i występem a jednak... kontakt z krajem
po latach dodał mu sił - interpretatorskich.
Dziękuję, G.

I remember that it was widely said that
Kiepura arrived then totally cold and had
real problems with singing and performing.

Thank you, Paul.
I would recommend a video here
"Martha Eggert-Kiepura na balu Kosciuszkowskim" where, at the end,
96 old Miss Eggerth speaks in perfect Polish (!) how much her husband loved his home country.
Actually, burried in Warsaw and an impressive monument was erected
a few years ago in the place of his birth,
Sosnowiec (only 10 km from me).

My elder brother was probably more
magnificent - not to erase this very piece
for his rock'n rolls.
Best wishes !
