  • Ladies and Gentleman , The Indian Army is not "adopting" any army's style. It has been this way Since the British Indian Army was formed many years ago when approximatly 350 years. These are customs and traditions followed and earnt in the many wars the Indian Soldier has fought, won and silently died in. For Example : Battle of Monte Cassino Italy World War II. This tradition is as much to the Indian Army as to the UK Army. Its Just that by nature the Indian Soldier never publicizes himself.

  • British Army learnt a lot of new lessons in India - the army band is a totally Indian concept - from ancient times !

Other Army bands - From British to Turks , all adopted Indian Style .

  • Sher-E-Jawan (Tiger of a Soldier) -

Quick march composed by Subedar (later Captain) H.K Thakur.

  • waterloo,It is so easy to make fun of someone who is doing well, real sign of a real looser, which u appear to be.

  • @lsvvur

Before u make fun of the supposed Indian accent..I would like to tell u that this accent was created by peter sellers..who played a Indian character. ..I havent met a single Indian person who speaks like this...Apparently he was as ignorant as u r..agreed that the Indian accent is not the best sounding one in the world...but this works both ways...if u try to speak any Indian languages I m sure u wont do a splendid job at it...

  • Pomms stop your crap.

You owe lot of wealth to India, first give that back then start complaining.

  • Very interesting to see an Indain army band at a Tattoo. This Japanese Tattoo looks very interesting. The band sounds a bit sqeauky, and is certainly not up to Western standards. Their playing is more like a reserve band, but uniforms and drill are smart, and music selections convery a national flavor. One can see the British influence here in the band instrumation, and the way they are placed within the formation. Very interesting display.

  • Good observations. The music may sound a bit squeaky because they are Indian tunes adapted to a Western concept like a "Military Band" :).

BTW, the concept of Military Band itself was introduced by the British. Hence we find many similarities. :)

  • Hi, yes i am surprised the modern Indian army wants to appear so British in their military band syle. But i guess thats the only working model they have for it, and they do manage to put their own twist on it. They probably have more bands in their army today than the ever shrinking British Corps of Army Music! And they retain a style left over from the Raj, whether they like it or not! Rather funny and ironic.

  • Yes. The Indian Army some times is "more British than the British themselves" :). Most of the old Army regiments have a pipes and drums as well as a military band at their regimental centres. New regiments either have one of them.

  • It would be interesting to get hold of some CDs of a few of these bands. Do you know if any are available for purchase?

  • Classic. BTW the tunes played:-

    1. Entry march: Sher-E-jawan (Tiger of a Soldier composed by Capt. H.K Thakur)

    2. Slow march seems to be based on the Hindustani Raag Yaman Kalyan

    3. The Lullaby is 'Siki Amole' (Composer. L.B Gurung)

    4. The final march is 'Sare Jahan Se Acha' (Best in the world, arranged for military music by A.Lobo).

  • nice insight I just knew saare jahan se accha
