Delboy! I wish I sounded as "bad" as you do! If i even come close to your level of play I will be more than happy. Your passion for this music form is great too.
Nice one Derek. I enjoyed it. I am only a third of the way through the book. I am learning Fandangos de Huelva. Can't figure out the compas yet but I will keep practicing. Have you posted the Fandago? Cheers.
@lacone3615 yeah ive posted it! have a look in my playlist lessons, you will see lesson 9 there :-) i have replied to it with me playing the solo too, which you will also find in my flamenco playlist! :-)
Derek, I am truly impressed! I definitely give you 5 stars. Your compas and rhythmic feel are impeccable, which is most important. This is a very important solo in Juan Martin's book because it has a lot of techniques and patterns you find again and again in solea and bulerias. You play it at nice speed. Play it often. Cheers -:)
Your arpeggios are pretty good!! Your accents are clearly heard, but it isn't 'introduced' well...it sounds very abrasive and forced, which makes the sound lack clarity (i.e. at 1:34, for instance). You can play certain parts at higher volumes, but make sure each note rings distinctly with intention. If you need more compas time for the note to ring more clearly, just play that section a half beat earlier...you won't be outta compas and the extra length gives it more character. Just my 2 cents
derek, you did a good job overall but your rasguedos are really sloppy! i think the problem is that you are moving your hand down as you flick your fingers. flick without moving your arm/hand down as you do it.
@ryanman51 i know i need to work on them! the next lesson malaguenas, starts with 5 consecutive four finger rasgueados at high speed! mine sounds like mush! (so far) :-(
@delboy1978uk Is that the AMII rasgueado? If so, try ledging your thumb higher on the low E string and then flicking off your rasgueado off that thumb instead of...your palm. Plenty easier--"gitano-style effortless" as my maestro calls it! Works for me, maybe it will for you.
Also my observation. I dont know if you use the pinky but, maybe that's why it's sloppy. Cause in Juan Martin's books he uses the pinky, but my teacher says that's a bit old fashioned and nowadays most peope just use IMA . It's also easier as the pinky doesnt have a lot of power and sometimes misses the strings.
Also i dont think you hit the bass strings in the rasgeado, but maybe that's for this particular style. I think if you change that, the song will have more power and Flamenco in it
Excellent !!!!!

lol, did you this for me? :) where is the compas track?
ryanman51 1 year ago
@ryanman51 no this is a different form! :-) closely related (or the same?) as solea por bulerias!
turns out I was playing the same time as you! lol once i started playing i thought, wait, I DO play it there! :-s
sometimes i think just a straight metronome with tick tick tick is better! hopefully my flamenco dancers can help with that though :-)

good one mate! all you need now is a thumbpick for shredding the falsettas lol! sounds great man !
