The law says that you can only go to war when attacked by another country. The law was written after WW2 to prevent nations to go at eatchother. @AngeCord Just want to clarify where I'm getting that from, and again I realize this is open to interpretation: A provision of the UN Charter specifically states that no law shall prohibit a nation from defending itself (don't have time to look it up right now, but I don't think it says that it must be against another nation). So since Afghanistan was the prime haven for Al Qaeda and the Taliban supported them, the only way for the US to defend itself regarding 9/11 was to invade Afghanistan.

The law says that you can only go to war when attacked by another country. The law was written after WW2 to prevent nations to go at eatchother. It does not give permission if attacked by a terror organisation residing in another country. You may agree or disagree, or consider it a flaw, but that is how it is written.

@AngeCord Just want to clarify where I'm getting that from, and again I realize this is open to interpretation: A provision of the UN Charter specifically states that no law shall prohibit a nation from defending itself (don't have time to look it up right now, but I don't think it says that it must be against another nation). So since Afghanistan was the prime haven for Al Qaeda and the Taliban supported them, the only way for the US to defend itself regarding 9/11 was to invade Afghanistan.

However, I don't see the justification for handeling prisoners in a way that goes outside the juridical framework.

The problem is that half of the middle class like the police and the millitary agree with the fact that the super rich deserve dominion over the middle class and poor. In the event there is huge riots, robbery and revolt agaist the rich they'll be there to stop it. Why do we tolerate a silent monarchy that at the expense of average people, carries on with a selfish, greedy agenda? Rich liberals and conservatives are the same to me.

We've been conditioned to the notion that the rich stay rich, and the poor die trying. And from what we have continued to see in our country that this is true. At least for the moment. The only good that's come of all this is that people are waking up to the harsh realities of our country, and they're mad. As they should be. Maybe soon Americans will take down the oppressive Empire our country has been made out to be by the doings of those, who deem they are "higher" then the average citizen.

You know Evan, I would love to meet you. I can't have this type of discussion with nobody I know except for my mom and dad. They were veterans and they see this country's scheme for what it's worth. I know for a fact that legally born people in the U.S of all races have been screwed. How despicable is it that Americans, supposedly the most advanced people in the world, do not bother discussing whether torture is right, but only whether it is effective? The fact of the matter remains that torture is an evil and illegal method of interrogation that we absolutely condemn when used by our enemies. Anyone who has ever been waterboarded, including John McCain, regards it as torture. It's only the pussy right-wingers who've never suffered a day in their lives who think it's ok.

This is a flatout lie. Khalid Sheik Mohammed revealed most of his valuable intelligence before being waterboarded, and there is no evidence that the statements he gave after being waterboarded could not have been obtained using legal, ethical methods of interrogation.

I am not a liberal. I am not a conservative. I strongly believe in a third political party that funtions for the benefit of working people. Not coddling them like the Democrats or robbing them blind like the Republicans. It also needs to be controlled and contributed to by the working class. If it's controlled and contributed to by the wealthy, then in the end it will best serve THEIR interests. Politicians are puppets. Some like a Bush or a Kennedy are puppets with a rich family. Cheney is using the "bear repellant" argument - we did something, and something totally unrelated didn't happen as a result of it...the same thing that doesn't happen every day anyway. It's not something that can be proven, and it does not make a compelling argument in favor of suspending the rights of torture victims.

Would you torture a leader of the operation in an attempt to protect and save those lives?

Torture is bad ideally but it is a necesary evil in the context its used.
