  • How'd you get a white dl4?

  • @syn5643

I had it modded by a friend of mine with the following mods: Volume Drop mod, Double Preset mod, Custom Exterior. It being is just a color coat, as it were. I don't have that DL-4 anymore though.

  • @DemoColorScheme Well that was a pretty cool DL4 Man!! Hows the RV5? And have you ever used a timefactor?

  • @syn5643

It was, but it's not something I can miss, the G-System, the Diamond Memory Lane and the Damage Control TimeLine have definitely made it obsolete. Hence why I sold it. Same goes for the TimeFactor; I had a TimeFactor and a ModFactor and sold them to fund a G-System and have never looked back. I don't miss the TimeFactor because, to me, it was only good for digital delays and the modulation on it wasn't that great.

  • @DemoColorScheme Really.. Well I'm looking for a stomp box delay, I've had the DL4, Nova Delay, dd3-dd5-dd6-dd7-dd20. And I'm still not satisfied. I play a lot of tool ,and ambient prog rock. Could you recommend anything? It's obvious you've sifted through a whole lot of pedals.

  • @syn5643

Yeah, you can say that. It depends on your needs, though. I'd recommend the Damage Control TimeLine, but they don't make that anymore. Damage Control have blended with strymon and they're the same company now. Google them and check out the Brigadier or the El Capistan. Both of those delays might satisfy your needs.

  • @DemoColorScheme Thanks so much man!! I've always seemed to be a stompbox guy, was the g system hard to adapt to? I see myself having some trouble getting adapted to it. I've also been thinking about the axefx and a midi rig. but I just feel like pedals are what I'm geared more towards. I don't know, this has been my hardest decision as a musician.

  • @syn5643

No, the G-System is as easy as a pedal. If you can control a TimeFactor, you can control the G-System. All the knobs on the unit are encoders as well, so it feels like 1 huge pedal. It's not a rack with loads of sub-menus. It's really easy to use, really.

Regarding pedals: it's a decision you'll have to make. I love just having the G-System and my DigiTech JamMan Stereo on the floor and the rest all being controlled by the G.

  • @DemoColorScheme How do you think the g system sounds? Are the tones comprable to pedals? Or would an AXE effects with a midi board be a whole better route. Price and difficulties are not an issue. I'd be willing to spend however much to get the tone I want. Shit I'm buying a 5000 Diezel Vh4...

  • @syn5643

I think the Axe-FX has more options, especially the Ultra, so - I'd get that. I just keep the G-System because of the fact that it's the heart of my IZAH rig as well. The Axe-FX rack with the other pedals is the add-on rack for Arafúra. But, if I had to choose, based on multi-FX usage, I'd probably go with the Axe-FX.

Regarding the sound of the G-System: its sound quality is just excellent. Way above any BOSS pedal/etc. - that's for sure!

  • @DemoColorScheme Well thanks SOO much for your help brother!! I think I'll just roll with the AXE and a midi board, AND some stompboxes!! Why not hahaha! Thanks again, I had to relieve that dam GAS

  • @syn5643

My pleasure! Though, do realize that you'd need a MIDI True Bypass Looper to have several loops for your pedals. The G-System has 4 of those in front of the pre-amp section, but the Axe-FX doesn't. It's gonna be spendy, really .. ;)

  • @DemoColorScheme So how would I intigrate pedals into a midi rig with an axe effects?

  • @syn5643

With a MIDI True Bypass Looper / Switcher, like I said. ;)

    Examples:

    - RJM Music Effects Gizmo or RG-16

    - Rocktron Patchmate 8

  • @DemoColorScheme Shit. Well I guess I'll have to look into seeing if the AXE fx or the g system is better for me. God this shit is hard, but It's worth it in the end.

  • @syn5643

Yup! You really need to do some research to see which you'll like best. It's gonna be a pricey ordeal, though!

  • @DemoColorScheme That's for sure either way. I'm selling all of my rig now, getting a 1980's Gibson les paul silverburst, a diezel vh4, and either continuing to build my pedalboard or getting a g system, or axe fx. Lot's of thinking to do!!

  • @syn5643

    Nice! Good luck with that!

  • @DemoColorScheme Thank you sir, what are you investing in???

  • @syn5643

Well, at the moment saving up for the Axe-FX, selling some gear (like my vintage '69 Silverface (modded to Blackface) Twin Reverb, '93 ltd. Golden Fender Jazzmaster) to fund the Axe-FX and a custom-made Telemaster guitar (hybrid between a Tele and Jazzmaster).

  • @DemoColorScheme NICE!! That's going to be a sick ass rig man. Are you running through a power amp into a cab? or are you going to use an existing rig with the AXE

  • @syn5643

Nah, I'm going straight in. Hence why I want it. I just want to record in full stereo without having to hold back in terms of volume, etc. I'm also tired of mic placements, ambient noise, phase issues, etc. I might get a stereo power amp in the future, who knows, but it's not something I'm planning right now.

I'll just keep the Koch Powertone rig + the G-System rack for IZAH.

  • @DemoColorScheme nice man, sounds pretty badass. Keep in touch, and in tone. Thanks again

  • @syn5643

    Will do! And my pleasure!

  • @syn5643

The RV-5 I still use live and on some sounds, but I won't use it much with the Axe-FX that I'm getting. I'm almost done with the final rack rig. I've stepped away from pedalboards and am going all MIDI. I don't have as much pedals as I did before but the ones I have now are in a rack, controlled by an RJM Music Effects Gizmo. I'll use the Axe-FX to go straight in for stereo recording. I know it has great 'verbs, including ways to modulate it. Pair that up with software and I'm happy. ;)

  • Have you played the new EXH Cathedral reverb? If so, how would you say it compares to the Boss RV-3/5, verbzilla, et al?

  • Nope, I haven't. I don't plan on getting one either. I've heard clips etc. and it doesn't impress me at all. And the 'hold' function is something I can do with software, way more easier AND better.

  • hello my friend! thats is a beautiful sound you got there. i have always used a multi fx unit. some months ago i began building my pedal board, inspired by your videos.

it is still very small, it consists in

    Guitar signal-> Barber Tone Press-> RAT2 -> George Dennis Stereo Chorus/Flanger -> Boss DD7-> Amp

could you point me a good long reverb, but not too expensive? i have been told of the verbzilla, but never tried it

    thank you very much, hugs!

    joao

    from lastsunday fireworks, portugal

  • The best thing on the market right now, in pedal format, is the Strymon Blue Sky Reverb, but next to that a BOSS RV-3 (insanely long plate reverb - mode 11) or RV-5 (Modulated reverb) will do just fine.

  • hey man, great great sound, im just trying to get into this sort of thing myself. in the descrip you say your ableton plugins are essential to your sound, just wondering what plugins you use most?

  • Too many to mention, really. Depends on what you'd like to know. I use a lot of different plugins for different sounds; a lot of which I use in a certain way to get the sounds I want.

  • yeah i figured you had a ton, you get some really complex sounds. do you have some favorites you use though?

  • Uh, yeah, sure, but it doesn't guarantee you'll get the same sounds.

Reverb: Altiverb 6, WizooVerb W5, Ambience, Ableton Live's Reverb

    Drums: Addictive Drums

Guitar Amps etc: IK AmpliTube (mainly use it for extra guitars)

Synths: Tal-U-No-60, Nanotron, Korg Legacy Collection

Rhodes: Lounge Lizard, NI Elektrik Piano

    Piano: Synthogy Ivory

Delays: I often used outboard delays

    Distortion: Distortionator Mk2

    The list goes on.

  • Hey stadsgenoot, mooie klanken hoor =).

  • how about the speaker damping?you can play in a room in low mode?

  • Well, yes, but it's a 120 watt tube amp. It just sounds even worse on low volumes.

  • and one more?is it better than the mesa boogies's clean channel?than you

  • Depends on which Mesa, of course. But in general, yes.

  • yes,i mean the mesa boogie mark v combo....?

  • Dunno, the Mark's have some nice cleans - both are differently voiced. Some of the Mark series Boogie's have a Fender-schematic in terms of clean sounds (but with slightly more boosted mids).

  • very nice dude...tell me any problems with the koch?are you satisfied?

  • No problems with the Koch, but I don't really care for it's gain sound, sadly. It's a matter of taste. The cleans are nice and lush though!

  • Very nice man! I can hear the Hammock influence coming out : )

  • Thanks, Corey!

  • ive chrcked them out, im impressed.

  • Awesome! You can download free material from both MySpace's - in case you're wondering.

  • i luv the sound so much. would b great to hear u and your band playing together. have u uploaded any song?

  • Thanks for the compliment! You can find the links to the projects I'm involved with the most in the description section next to the videof

I do have to warn you that this material, like on this vid, is the new Arafúra sound, so some of the stuff on the MySpace might not be to your liking.

  • Thanks!

  • Man! were did you live??' Im going to your house to steal all your gear when you are not around :P hohohohoh!

  • Ha .. this actually happened a few weeks ago, sadly. I was coming home from a gig and stored my gear in my storage space for a few days and when I came back from my girlfriend, they had broken into the storage space and stolen my laptop and an old keyboard that belonged to my deceased father.

    Luckily nothing else was stolen.

People just need to take their hands off of someone else's property ..

  • Yo no lo hice! lo juro! I was only joking =(

  • I got that! ;) I was just explaining the irony of it.

  • hi, what brand of pedalboard is that? I'm looking at some options for a new pedalboard. Thanks.

  • Which one? With the pedals on it or the G-System?

The pedalboard itself is a Rockcase by Warwick.

  • my bad I didn't even realize the g-system had a case, but yeah I was talking about the one with the pedals on it. Thanks.

  • I saw this again today, and I have to say I absolutely love it. Tell me when you have some material to sell. I'll be glad to buy some;)

  • I'm glad you enjoy it, mate! The new material is in the works a lot, so let's hope it gets finished soon!

    Thanks for the compliments!

  • Once again, another amazing piece. I was thinking of picking up guitar as well for a Shoegaze/Ambient sound.

How long did it take you to get this good?! lol

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it!

And no, I'm not great of a guitar player. It's just about knowing how things work and how to manipulate sounds. That's my forte, luckily!

  • Hey, I just realized you had a Deluxe Electric Mistress - please do a video of it when you get it modified!

  • Yeah, I'm loving it! I might do that, when it gets modded. The guy that mods my gear has been SO busy lately, so I'm not sure how long this'll take.

  • Can't wait to buy the EP. I want these great sounds floating through my speakers at home.

  • Thanks, mate! I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm working on the new stuff as much as I can!

  • perfect sound..i wish i could hear it live or a cd ..congrats on yur set up :)

  • Thanks! I'm working hard on it! It's been so rewarding, lately, to hear the stuff that's been in your head and see/hear that come to life!

  • your home studio looks perfect!

  • Thanks!

It's small and nowhere near a professional studio, of course. But I get by.

  • I didn't know you had a g-system, that rocks - how does it compare to the modfactor?

You got some great gear my friend - keep up the good work.

Great stuff too - you rock.

I hope to post a few vids of my meager set up soon.

Hope the holiday season is treating you well.

    Cheers - Cosmogang (Alex)

  • Thanks, Alex!

And yeah, the G-System has been a huge add-on to my arsenal. At first I got it for the IZAH live stuff which just needed heavy control per patch but I found out that it's a huge add on to the Arafúra rig as well.

It's amazing to have control between two amps, put one on, or put the other on OR use them both in stereo, which is such a nice feeling to bask in.

And I'm curious to see what you use and do! Should be interesting!

    Cheers, bud!

  • @DemoColorScheme - I sold most of my pedals to get the M13 - so right now I am just running the M13 with a Boss FV500-L untill the Skreddy comes in, then I plan on purchasing a Deluxe memory boy (have you seen this thing?!?!?! - amazing) and some Wampler Dirt pedals, anyway. When/where can I buy an album of yours? (ambient)

  • Ah, yes! So you've told! I'm getting my Skreddy in this upcoming week but am actually looking for a TimeLine which are SO hard to find over here!

I've seen the DMB, yes, but I wasn't impressed with the Boy's sound at all and this is just that same sound, but with added features. I'll stick by the real deal, the DMM. ;) It's still king.

And sorry! I'm working on my EP, which is called 'Staralasis', so I don't have anything for sale yet. Also, it's gonna be a free release!

  • Prints will be made so people, that are willingly, can buy the EP at shows/via the internet.

  • have you seen the Wampler Faux tape echo? Pretty cool.

  • Hm, I wasn't impressed, personally.

  • I thought the skreddy sounded way thicker and darker than the faux - what I really want is a killer ambient sound that melts off into dreamy space dust - from what I've heard, the Skreddy and the DMM can do just that!

I love the idea of the DMB, but I really haven't heard the MB too much. The DMM is the king, no doubt, I just love gadgets and I gamble sometimes with buying flashy pedals...........most of the time it doesn't work out, I should probably stick with what I know works.

  • I don't think anything made to be an affordable take on the DMM is going to sound better. It kinda makes sense, right?

I'm still curious for the Sreddy! We'll see how it sounds in person. I can hardly wait. I've been waiting for it for over a year now!

And hey, trying out pedals IS a fun part of it all, don't you think? Each time is a journey.

  • *Skreddy, that is.

  • I really enjoyed the music;)

  • Thanks, buddy!

  • Hi Michel, I realy like these atmospheres, its nice to here more, takes you in an other world thanks for the inspiration.

  • wowow michel this is great!

    gotta love the DMM ;)

  • Ha, thanks, Nick!

The DMM is lovely, but let's face it, this time .. much more is at work here, haha!

  • Great, great video! Would love to hear more new experiments!!! :-)

  • Thanks! More is coming up soon, if all goes well!
