@evey9333 Nah I beg to differ. P-51B is the fastest at 440 MPH while the ME-262 had a top speed at 540 MPH. The ME-262 had four Mk 108 30mm cannons in the nose and 24 R4M rockets.. P-51 had 6 50cals and 6 to 10 H.V.A.R. rockets. Nah I think ME-262 is better :P

Those are not superior guns, they are guns used to shoot bombers and other easy to hit targets. They also had very limited magazines. By the time the jet really hit the scene it was over for Germany anyway, they decided to try to convert a lot of the remaining Luftwaffe to ground attack and bomber intercept. Both the Fw-190 and the Me-109 had 30mm cannons and both fared far better in air to air.

The ME262 would have swatted Comets out of the sky if they had met cause it was faster, more agile, and had 4 (!) 30mm cannons in the nose. Oh and look up the Shinden, it was even better then the ME262, cause it was Japanese (of course :P) it was slated to be a jet fighter, but was forced to use an prop because of a lack of jets.

A lone B-29 stopped at Bovingdon Airfield in 1944  as a plot to deceive the Germans into believing that Superfortresses were about to be deployed in the ETO. I believe there were some German newspapers that featured recon. photos too, but I can't find any quick links.

B-29 "Hobo Queen" eventually flew on to a base in China for operations in the Pacific.

my gramps told me they (US daylight main bomber) did use .50 waist guns up until the 8th got fighters w/ drop tanks to escort them all the way in. Then they removed some of the guns on the 17s are fighter screened well, the waist guns (and they were .50). And they did have elint special crews doing the night thing as prev poster said.

Historically very inaccurate too, as we took the side guns out of the 17's we had. Most of ours were not used in a bombing role, they got used in an elint role. I knew one of the crew, their job was at night to send the German night fighters off onto fake targets, or if we were really lucky, their own returning bombers.
