  • everybody on here saying the 96-99 vortec 350s have 190 is full of shit the older 350s did vortecs have between 250-300 horsepower

  • @youdragon they are like 250 each lol. I dont have the truck anymore but when I did I got about 13 mpg. now I drive a 90 k3500 with a 454 and it gets like 10 mpg. it sucks!

  • @Jay146992 my timber line MTs were 800$ for the 4 they have lasted just about 100k miles so it was a good deal lol they make the truck suck some pretty good gas in town tho lol,and your 3500 is it a duely? i LOVE the 454s

  • @youdragon Oh i thought you were talking about BFG MT tires. Yeah those mud terrains eat up gas and are loud! no surprisingly its not a dually. the 454 is a very nice engine. its a rare combo for a 90. long bed extended cab, 454, 4x4, power everything, loaded. it even has leather. It must have been some truck back in 90. The guy who had it before me took care of it. I still have the window sticker. Price shows 34,800.

  • I have the same truck identical one but its a 1997 all stock slightly modded EGR bock off and no cats straight piped 28inch glass packs it wont do a burn out ive read the specs on them its barly 190HP 220 if your lucky ive tried to do a burn out on ass fault and concrate it has to be wet or on dirt

  • @gowerryan i have one the best on one is 220HP most average 190HP @ 5000RPM i even blocked off my egr and removed my cats and straight piped it that does wonders on one big difference on them next mod up is a standard tranny or maybe TH400 i want better fuel economy not no engine bogging 700R4

  • @Rumler94 Because mine has a rear locking diff. When one wheel slips it locks so both of them spin.

  • TBI means turbo boosted injection, and the heads, there are afterburners, when one tire spins, that gives you 100hp, when two tires spin, thats atleast 200hp, lol funny arguments on here. haha

  • lol... Vortec is not only the heads but the intake as well... Yes these engines are Throttle Body Injected... wow... look at the freakin intake and then tell me its Tune Port Injected. I think TPI builds were added in 99... But I own a 98 Z71 and I've had the engine apart time and time again... Unless they accidentally put a TBI build in my truck, I believe these models all came with TBI...

  • sorry pal my truck does have a tpi because i had the old diesel engine switched out with a 1988 tpi 350 so it isnt tbi

  • its not a tbi its a tpi (tuned port injection) and i wasnt sitting in clorox or oil it was straight horsepower and torque

  • the trucks were tbi (throttle body injected) the camaros and corvettes had the tpi (tuned port injecetd) the motors had a big butterfly on em and were fed directly into the ports not the same as the tbi motors in the trucks.

  • Actually they aren't. Limited slip rear end means when one tire starts to spin then both tires will engage. A posi rear end means that both tires are engaged all the time.

  • @lifteddodge1 nope, limited slip is does exactly what is calld...."limited slip" it limits slip from a wheel with little to no traction and transfers a little power to the wheel with traction using a clutch pack. positive traction is when both wheels are locked as one and there is no difference in wheel speed on both sides. these dont use a clutch pack, they use a mechanical locking actuator that locks them together.

  • Actually they are not the same. Posi Trac for example in a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 has gears in the rear end that lock up both output shafts, where as a limited slip rear end has a clutch pack that helps to turn each wheel at the same speed but due to clutch slip they will not spin the same. Posi is better for straight shots and mudding so both tires will spin the same no matter what, which makes turning difficult due the the fact the rear tires will fight because of turning radius.

  • While I agree that a 305 tbi has little power, a vortec motor is a tbi motor. tbi is the injection system, vortec refers to the heads.

  • Yes, they did. "Vortec" refers to the heads. They are all TBI, which is throttle body injection, which is how the motor is fed. Port injection is throttle body injection. There's not much difference between a regular TBI 350 and a vortec 350 other then the heads.

  • Yes, Vortec refers to the heads. The 96-99 350's had Vortec heads, which is why they were called Vortec engines. But Vortec engines are not throttle body injected! A TBI engine looks like it has a carburetor, there's an air cleaner on top of the motor and everything. But the actual throttle body injection system consists of two fuel injectors shooting fuel into the intake manifold. Port injection is when each cylinder has its own injector.

  • @megaenvy i have owned both types of injection on these trucks. the TBI engine uses two injectors before the throttle body and sprays through it similar to a carb. the TPI uses a "spider" like system that drops injectors into each intake plenum for each cylinder. so, a TBI injects fuel through the throttle body and the TPI injects fuel after the throttle body.

  • Well i doubt its posi because it must of been on water because posi will put you sideways man...I have a 1996 305 with a posi takes a bit to get the tires burning...but when it starts smoking them and i let go of the brake it puts my truck straight sideways

  • Well actually it is posi, because if its not posi then 99% of the time the passenger side tire will spin and the drivers side wont cause the passenger side tire is the drive tire, so since the drivers side tire was spinning too, id say it was posi!

  • No because he would have went sideways. Its probably a locking differential will lock both tires until it gets traction thats why it slowed down when he got out of the water. Or its a limited slip rearend but i dont think they had that till lik 03 for the trucks

  • Actually its a Gm Govlock differential, i dont think you understand that the term "posi" doesnt mean a certain type or style of differential, its a term used to discribe any differential that isnt open, lockers, limited slip, welded, and spool differentials are all "posi" differentials, and if he would have stayed in it longer or turned the wheel, he woulda went sideways, learn what the hell yer talking about before you start posting dumbass comments on here.

  • Theres different types of Posi Rear ends. Locking rear end, just a posi rear end that'll act like limited slip. Spool doesnt even count because that shit cant even be used on a everyday driving car because youd fuck something turning that mutt. Its probably the stock rear end because he wouldnt put that much effort into it. And if its open both fucking tires can spin at once when its wet and it wont always be the back passenger tire it will kick out from driver to passenger the whole time.

  • NO DUMBASS!! there is no such thing as a "posi" style rear end. There are locker, limited slips, and spools! those are your options. "stock" is no an option! it is a fucking GM Govlock! and i have a fucking spool in my 97 gmc sierra and i havent broken anything yet. On wet pavement, and open diff will let ONE tire spin out and will not switch back and forth! You have no idea what the hell yer talking about so just stop trying! Go do a little research before you post another damn comment on here!
