I love this film, the people in it, the story being told, and total respect for the guys doing the driving.
But my fav part is most definitely the moment that Scania burst back into life after 6 months of standing covered in sand / dust. I was feeling chuffed too, "Come on baby" and she did! brilliant, true pioneers of the long haul in my book.
eddie simmons my dad used to pull for ashworth internaternal manchester anddavis turner and redcliffe roadways to iran iraq and saudia arabia and doha my name is eric simmons
i have full respect to all middle east drivers because ive been my self in 2004 and used to go with my falther in 1975 76 77 eddie simmons from hull he had a 1924 merc i wonder if any one remembers him from the mo camp
total respect, now thats what i call a bunch of truck drivers, nowadays we'er not evan allowed to change so much as a lightbulb, the firm i work for want me to take the wagon up to the workshop to have a bulb changed, and if another driver catches you changing it then your ruining it for everyone else
This brings back memorys good and bad i start driving in 78 whit an F89 Volvo and after 2 years my company allowed me to go International whit the same Volvo and most of the time i did groupage to Italy Greece and yugoslavia and a few times to Turkey but never ferther than Istanbul because thats where te adventure starts these days.I know what i am talking about and believe me those guys drove to hell and back. And that makes them heroes to me .
@ 6.50 I remember my younger days spent on holidays in Doha. Now, very few of the old bldgs are remaining. Think Doha Sheraton, The tall mosque, clock tower, Sofitel hotel are there. The scenarios has changed in the 2000's
