Greatest contribution by Lieb is his DVD and book on sound production. EVERY and I mean EVERY sax player and educator MUST READ and WATCH theses great learning items. And I agree with Sweatybus' remark-"Liebman is a great educator and speaker about music, but I can't stand his weedy soprano sound!" Wish he would keep his soprano in the case
@JazzVideoGuy kinda reminds me of a tamil carnotic wedding music which went on for days in a hotel I was staying at in the early 80's. His soprano approach sounds a little like sagorum, a wooden cone with a thick double reed to me. I love their sound together.
the great Jamey Haddad playing a doumbek, this is an alpha band. Vic Juris (whom I've had the good fortune to play with a handful of times--i'm a drummer/percussionist myself) is as great a rhythm player as he is soloist, which sounds like not big deal but it's a sign of a great musician
Great sound and rythmic beat. It reminds me of some progressive jazz albums from Poland, I used to listen to in the late 1970s (student early days). Quite a musical trip, with moments of freestyling...Classic progressive sound. Shame the video cuts out so suddenly, but these pieces could go on forever and why not...
It was always a treat to hear this band at the Deer Head Inn when I lived in Del. Water Gap, PA. Tony Marino's head has its own orbit! Great bass player, too.
"weedy sound" on soprano??? it seems strange to hear that! Lieb's got a very rich sound with hundreds of different colours, nuances and sound effects.
I'm just not sure who's version I like better...Liebman' or Chris Potter's. Chris gets crazy with multiphonics and stuff like that, but Dave shows such excellent musicianship here I can't even begin to explain how much of it is there. Great stuff, nonetheless.

kostor1991 1 year ago
@kostor1991 the time signature alternates between one 10/8 measure and one 11/8 measure for the whole tune. Pretty sweet huh
