S'funny. I've seen interpretations of this song depicting an obvious literal picture, but cave at why the title is "A Smart Kid."
I always defaulted that the last person on Earth is a kid. The narrative is spoken simply, and observations are made for what would stand out more to a child.
As for him being "smart," I think it's referring (whether genuinely or sarcastically) to the phrase "There was a war, but I must have won." Being the last person alive, and a kid, who else would be a winner?
Agreed! And within and across the various albums there are so many PT influences that Steven Wilson admits to openly! Much of the harmony in a lot of their music is inspired by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, one of SW's favourite bands. I find it amazing that PT can pick up on a lot of great music, carry it forward and a add a lot of their own flavour to it in one way or another! : ) Thanks for viewing and commenting! ~ John
Yeah, it is an eerie song! Amazes me how the music portrays a character that remains hopeful in spite of what's happened (whether interpreted literally or figuratively). Glad you enjoyed the visuals:) Thanks!
