  • Did you eventually find a way to hide that cable?

  • @shroffman - no, but I guess I've gotten use to it. I'll relook the next time I lift the tank, which I plan to do this winter to check my 'black widow' spider connector.

  • Jim'll Fit it ;D

  • good job.....sometimes it is hard to do thing the "factory" way when it comes to routing wires.

  • I cringed through most of this video.

BTW: You have one awesome looking bike!

  • Your bike is pretty sweet also!

  • I love you man!

  • It's a real nice to have, for sure.

  • I'm glad my Burgman has a 12V power outlet in the glove box. That farkle seemed like a big challenge. Great vid on the install.

BTW, did I hear you say your where listeningg to Leo Deporte? He is great! I watched him all the time on TechTV when he hosted "Call for Help"

  • My FJR also has a 12v socket in the glove box, but its limited to 2.5 amps.

Yes, I was listening to Leo Laporte's twit tv live feed. I meet Leo once about 20 years ago, he's my age, although he doesn't look it!

  • Nice job Jim and very imformative but you seem like me and like clean setups... that wire would eat at me too

  • I'll fix it one way or the other.

  • i know you will you seem like that kinda guy

  • i have 2 extra power sockets

one under the seat with a universal charger (to fill my phone, or camera or gps) and the other is in the front next to the handle bars to put in a ipod or something.

Also i put on the battery a cable so i dont have to take the whole battery out. So when i have to charge it i take out the fuse (to not burny my electronics during charge) and connect the charger thats under the seat.

  • Good point, besides powering my heated vest I do plan to use this socket for running a trickle charger and powering my portable air compressor.

  • yeah i use it also to power my heated siut in the winter months and in summer to charge my cellephone or gps or ipod or whatever.

You really cant denie how usefull a power source can be

  • Always nice to have that extra plug to power things. Ive got one under the backseat on my CBR. Havent ever used it but nice to have it there in case i need to plug something into it. (:

  • I have a 12V socket in the glove compartment that will run my gps, but it's a bit awkward to use so I hope to add a second powerlet on the handlebars for gps and maybe someday a radar detector. I'm all about gadgets.

  • A radar detector? You and your speeding Jim. ;P (;

  • I never intentionally speed (really!), but on this bike 120mph is about a 1/8" and three seconds away. A reminder to keep it legal would be helpful!

  • I feel your pain there Jim. the Busa is the same way!

  • I just wear lots and lots of layers haha. I don't have the patience or electrical ability for these projects.

  • I do lots of layers including my heated vest because I'm a big baby when it comes to cold weather.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for the Vid, Jim. I am looking at putting one of those on my FZ6. One question, is your powerlet hot all the time, or did you relay it some how so that it is only on when the bike is running?

    Thanks

  • It's hot all the time, but since that is only used for my heated vest I don't see a problem. The vest unplugs when I dismount, it's not something I have to remember.

I want to add one more socket to the handlebars, when I do that I'll probably rewire this rear socket and install a relay control distribution box.

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice Jim. I've been meaning to do this and I'm happy to see that you've done it.

  • Thanks Z.

  • So if I install this, I can just use my car navigation on my bike rather than buy one that is specifially for the bike?

  • Yes, you probably can. The main problem with using car gps systems on a bike is the lack of weather proofing.

People overcome this by putting the car gps in either a purpose made enclosure or just a zip lock bag.

My GPS is a great low cost weather resistant GPS from Lowrance called a 'XOG'. I've made a video about it. Sadly the XOG is no longer made, Lowrance having left the automotive market.
